Do people still bother with eyeshadow?

virgocatlover · 12/09/2024 18:37

I have so many eyeshadows from beauty advent calendars, GWPs etc, but they take forever to use up and I hardly ever hit pan.

But when I look around at other women in shops, at work, out and about etc it seems not many bother with eyeshadow anymore. And yet they're always in beauty boxes. Actually it seems people wear less make up than they used to, I feel a bit of an anomaly wearing make up when I go to the office.

Is it just a thing people wear on nights out/special occasions these days? I don't go to many of those so unsure...

I'm trying to learn make up currently, after a lifetime of not bothering, so I'm having a good look at the well groomed, natural looking women on the tube. I'd say they are all wearing eyeshadow, for some subtle definition but nothing coloured or shimmery.

Luluco · 12/09/2024 20:44

I love eyeshadow and wear it daily. Use natural colours buts it’s always been my favourite make up item.

TeachesOfPeaches · 12/09/2024 18:42

Eyeshadow looks quite dated now

Not if well done and subtle

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 12/09/2024 20:50

I wear it a lot and like to match it to my outfits.

I dont go mad though I think some eyes suit it and some don't. Depends on lid shape.

RandomUsernameHere · 12/09/2024 20:55

Only weddings and special nights out for me (which are the only times I spend more than about 2 minutes on my make up).

cartwheelsandhandstands · 12/09/2024 20:56

I wear eye shadow every day.

Ive just purchased the most beautiful YSL palette and I love it with all of my heart haha

EleanorRavenclaw · 12/09/2024 21:15

I’m utterly shite at eye shadow and only wear it rarely on a night out etc. I’ve been using eye shadow pencils for a bit of colour and think they work really well. I used to get the Charlotte Tilbury ones but recently started buying the Victoria Beckham Kajal eyeliners and love them.

Medical24 · 12/09/2024 21:15

I always do when I dress up fur a night out, party.

softmauve · 12/09/2024 21:19

In my 60's and just started using it.
A warm matt mid brown/bronze on my lids and a thin line against my lower lashes.
It's opened my eyes up and I keep being told how well I look.
Actually read it on here as a trick for us oldies.

PuppyMonkey · 12/09/2024 21:33

Oh blimey, yet another thing I’m doing all wrong then. I always wear eye shadow, just a bit of subtle brown not bright pink and yellow stripes or anything. It definitely makes a difference to my eyes, makes them come to life more.

BlueSkiesRain · 12/09/2024 21:45

I do but I only ever use a cream or goldish one. I have in the past tried those trios and blending but I just can't be arsed so I sweep over one colour.

I have dark brown eyes and it just brightens them.

I then use eyelash curlers before applying my Lancome mascara. I've only just branched out to Lancome after years of using Max Factor or Loreal so I've been stuck in the 90s since erm the 90s.

Although I never embraced skinny eyebrows or eyeliner every single day (or ever).

My nod to the modern has been buying a brow brush and also an eyebrow pen. I don't really get it though as they look great for five minutes then look like I've done nothing to them.

I have multiple pallets where the only colour I've used is cream.

ginoclocksomewhere · 12/09/2024 21:47

Hardly ever, and even then when I do it's usually a combination of bronzer and contour rather than actual eyeshadow.

henlake7 · 12/09/2024 21:54

I usually wear it, not even the subtle natural ones either....i like sparkley ones!
I have strong glasses though and my eyes would disappear without something and I also can't do winged eyeliner without making a mess!

Mil3nnial · 12/09/2024 21:55

I do

often a single Nars brown shade on the lid facing up from the ladhlinr

Justleaveitblankthen · 12/09/2024 22:39

Oh you are right and I never noticed this before!
Everyone wears deep tan, thick false lashes and even thicker lips where I live 😂

I wear a touch of green or bronze eyeshadow every day.
Only up to the crease as - to use a cringey TikTok term - it makes my eye colour "pop"🫣

strangeandfamiliar · 12/09/2024 22:53

I wish I could but it just looks awful on me. Same with eyeliner. It looks lovely on other people though.

BananaFrogDooby · 12/09/2024 23:01

I do, but just a smidgen of a pale fleshy colour to lighten and brighten my eye area. The skin around my eyes is quite dark and I really don't want to wear eg brown shadow to accentuate this.

needingadviceandthoughts · 12/09/2024 23:56

I see these two wearing it .

Do people still bother with eyeshadow?
dierama · 13/09/2024 00:01

I wear it every single day. But I am 50 and have hooded eyes.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 13/09/2024 07:34

It's actually really nice to hear from other women in their 40s and 50s with hooded eyes - I really dislike my eyes because of it and it feels like I am surrounded by women with huge dark-fringed eyes and naturally defined sockets and lids 😂

BoxOfCats · 13/09/2024 09:35

I am 42 and wear it most days, particularly if I am going to work. Love eyeshadows and will wear lots of different colours. I am going on holiday tomorrow and have packed the Natasha Denona Gold eyeshadow palette plus another very colourful palette.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/09/2024 10:30

Daily I use a single nude-y shade of cream shadow, swiped on with a brush, then curl my lashes and mascara. I tend to wear red lipstick so eyes plus lips is too much. If I was feeling very fancy I have the same cream shadow in a bronze-y shade, and I also have a glittery one for Christmas.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/09/2024 10:32

I do!

MintTwirl · 13/09/2024 10:42

I do! I used to be an eyeshadow junkie and wore every colour under the sun(back when MAC was THE brand) but these days I stick to a couple of neutral colours, slightly darker if I’m going out.

OvaHere · 13/09/2024 11:26

I like eyeshadow but I'm not very good at it these days. Wore a lot of adventurous shades in my youth but the combination of being out of practice and having older, saggier eyes means I shy away from it a lot.

Earlier this year I did buy a cheap neutrals pallet and have been using it a bit more. I think the cheap pallet is probably not great quality though so at some point I'm going to buy something more expensive.

I could do with finding some tutorials from older women if anyone has you tube recommendations. So many beauty influencer types who do these and review products are far too young to give me an idea of whether it would be a good product for someone approaching 50+.
