Do people still bother with eyeshadow?

virgocatlover · 12/09/2024 18:37

I have so many eyeshadows from beauty advent calendars, GWPs etc, but they take forever to use up and I hardly ever hit pan.

But when I look around at other women in shops, at work, out and about etc it seems not many bother with eyeshadow anymore. And yet they're always in beauty boxes. Actually it seems people wear less make up than they used to, I feel a bit of an anomaly wearing make up when I go to the office.

Is it just a thing people wear on nights out/special occasions these days? I don't go to many of those so unsure...

Daily and copiously! And just for the fun of it, too. I've heard of it being not fashionable any more, but I'm old, so I couldn't care less.

Yes, this. Thank you.

rockstarshoes · 12/09/2024 19:43

I wear it daily - don't often leave the house without it!

I like nothing better than watching an applying eyeshadow video & then trying it out!

2chocolateoranges · 12/09/2024 19:44

I wear eyeshadow for a night out. I like smoky eyes for going out for the night.

Cheersmedears123 · 12/09/2024 19:49

I wear it every day otherwise my face looks a bit flat. Nothing fancy though - a matte, brown eyeshadow very casually smudged in, or a slightly shimmery, gold/brown if I’m going out. I think eyeliner looks a bit strange on me so I don’t bother with that.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 12/09/2024 19:50

I haven't for years because I have to use oily drops for dry eyes throughout the day & every time I do that, it runs & I wipe it & that's my make up gone!

If anyone knows of any eye colour that would survive eye drops, I'd love to hear about it.

Paetina · 12/09/2024 19:54

Another person who wears it like eyeliner - apply eyeliner first and then go over top with shadow in similar colour using thin brush. Softens the edges and seems to last longer.

Probablywont · 12/09/2024 19:56

I wear it as I like to accentuate my eyes but it is probably old-fashioned now. I noticed at the hairdressers that all the stylists wear only black eyeliner with long eyelashes. I don’t think that suits me. Having read this thread though, I might give it up for a bit and see if I can update my look a bit.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 12/09/2024 19:56

I do, but just because I've got hooded eyes and subtle eyeshadow makes them look bigger and not like I'm half asleep.

Releasethebat · 12/09/2024 19:58

I use an eyeshadow stick. I think they're the quickest, easiest way to do eye makeup.

Pigeonqueen · 12/09/2024 19:58

I wear it every day. Usually just one neutral ish colour and then a flick of eyeliner on top.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 12/09/2024 20:00

I only wear eye shadow if I am going out. I'm 37 x

Tanfastic · 12/09/2024 20:00

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 12/09/2024 18:56

I do, but only because I have hooded eyes and need it to make myself look like I have eyelids. It's very subtle. I don't do a DRAMATIC EYE.

Same, I have very hooded eyes so I use it to draw attention away from that, I've practised so much it opens up my eyes. I wear it most days.

MorrisZapp · 12/09/2024 20:04

My lids are too crinkly for eyeshadow. I think the mania for 'must have' pallettes has definitely died back on social media. How anyone used one of them up I'll never know.

GinBlossom94 · 12/09/2024 20:24

I have more eyeshadow than I will ever use, tbh I think I stopped during covid times as wasn't going anywhere, now I'm 4 years older and it's just not the look for me. Same with foundation/contour etc, I just cba anymore. Quick slick of mascara and brows filled and I'm done

redtrain123 · 12/09/2024 20:26

I wear it all the time. Hadn’t realised it wasn’t a thing anymore. Another memo I missed.

EternallyDelighted · 12/09/2024 20:29

I have partially hooded (and slightly crinkly) lids, I wear Maybelline Colour Tattoo stick in a rose gold colour just on the lid below the crease, it stays put, brightens my eyes and accentuates their colour (hazel, makes them look greener). Also subtle mascara but no eyeliner. I am well over 30

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 12/09/2024 20:30

I wear it every day. The older I get the more red and transparent my eyelids look so I use eyeshadow to make my eyelids look 'normal'.

Mayanatalia · 12/09/2024 20:31

My makeup has always been all about the eyes, I didn’t used to bother with eyeshadow because I went with smokey glittery eyeliner.
Now eyeshadow defines my makeup look, I wear shimmery green eyeshadow or sometimes purple or dark blue and I get millions of compliments a day at work.

I don’t think the black liner did me any favours when I was depressed lol, the green instantly makes me look happy and I look a bit plain without it.

RaspberryCloud · 12/09/2024 20:33

fortheveryfirsttime · 12/09/2024 18:49

I always wear a light cream shadow every day because otherwise my lids are a bit red. I'll use a slightly stronger colour if I'm going out.

Exactly the same here - I look a bit mole - like without it 🫣

spikeandbuffy · 12/09/2024 20:34

Every time I do makeup

Easipeelerie · 12/09/2024 20:36

I’m 54 and wear it every day. I have hooded eyes and it helps to make them to appear more open. I’m warm toned and use some warm browns and tans. I wouldn’t bother if I didn’t have foundation on though.

RaspberryCloud · 12/09/2024 20:36

ImthatBoleyngirl · 12/09/2024 19:56

I do, but just because I've got hooded eyes and subtle eyeshadow makes them look bigger and not like I'm half asleep.

This is totally me too

Aworldofmyown · 12/09/2024 20:39

I wear it every day. Quite subtle though.

Littleguggi · 12/09/2024 20:41

Funny you say that as I haven't worn eyeshadow for years (apart from the odd night out) however this week I randomly started wearing eyeshadow to work, just a subtle nude/ light brown coloured one! For no reason whatsoever, just fancied it.

Beesandhoney123 · 12/09/2024 20:42

I wear eyeshadow because I feel more polished. However not walking on the hills:) am def not down with the kids.

I wear matte during the day, but have watched a video of how to do it for my eyes and practised like mad.

Is it dated? I am under the impression I look nice and fashionable
