Do people still bother with eyeshadow?

virgocatlover · 12/09/2024 18:37

I have so many eyeshadows from beauty advent calendars, GWPs etc, but they take forever to use up and I hardly ever hit pan.

But when I look around at other women in shops, at work, out and about etc it seems not many bother with eyeshadow anymore. And yet they're always in beauty boxes. Actually it seems people wear less make up than they used to, I feel a bit of an anomaly wearing make up when I go to the office.

Is it just a thing people wear on nights out/special occasions these days? I don't go to many of those so unsure...

I wear eyeshadow as eyeliner, applied with a stiff liner brush then slightly smudged out. I think it looks much better on me than harsh eyeliner, more subtle, although it can be quite bold too depending on how it's applied. I use a range of colours but mostly neutrals. I also find it lasts better than normal eyeliner.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 12/09/2024 18:56

I do, but only because I have hooded eyes and need it to make myself look like I have eyelids. It's very subtle. I don't do a DRAMATIC EYE.

PayYourselfFirst · 12/09/2024 18:56

I've got hooded eyes so I use eyeshadow to look normal 😂

Like everything I CBA what anyone else thinks and I'm not 18 so why would I wear the make up that 18 year olds have deemed in or out ?
It will be back in shortly don't worry

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 12/09/2024 18:56

And only when I am "out" out. I don't wear make up day to day.

Cross Post!

This did make me laugh 😂How a cruel universe deprived two women of eyelids

My eyelids are so saggy and hooded now I don't know how best to apply it, so I don't bother. :-(

There are 1001 YouTube videos which are our friend (I'm 49 tomorrow).

I like to watch them when I'm procrastinating.

UserNameOfShame · 12/09/2024 19:01

I always wear eyeshadow. Only nude colours though. No purple or green! (Although I did go though a phase probably 15 years ago were I wore brights and neon colours all the time. Oh and a teal and gold phase)

I'm currently doing a pale pink iridescent lid and dark brown contour in the crease and lower lid, then blend, blend, blend.

Is it fashionable? I have no idea.
Do I like it? Yeah.

You betcha, if I didn't I would look like one ORANGE guy. Bigly. 🍊

Eye shadow draws the eyes away from the solar glare effect, so they tell me. 🔆

May I suggest getting your wife to help with the fake tan. If you can get her into the same room as you, of course 😄 🍊

ChampagneBlossom44 · 12/09/2024 19:15

I do! I’ve got quite heavy features below the eye, big nose big lips & prominent cheekbones, I feel that my eyes are a bit too old for winged liner (how my 20s to mid-30s self balanced out my face) and use subtle neutral eyeshadow colours to even things out. If I’m in a hurry I just smudge a brown liner all around the place & skip the eyeshadow. If was trial & error, I do think when I first started using it that it was ageing me because it was too bold but I think I’ve got the hang of it now.

Grate idea!
Dunno where she is tho!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 12/09/2024 19:21

I love doing my eyeshadow, but do tend to stick with neutrals. Unless I'm going out out and then I'll go for brighter colours and a more dramatic look..

Xmasbaby11 · 12/09/2024 19:22

Less often than I used to (48) but sometimes pale brown so quite subtle.

Kelly51 · 12/09/2024 19:22

Under 30s use it, hence the demand for luxury palettes

Coconutter24 · 12/09/2024 19:23

I wear eyeshadow everyday. I use nudes to try keep it natural and I also use a brown eyeshadow as a liner

Parkmybentley · 12/09/2024 19:25

I have to use eyeshadow to make my hooded eyes look less crinkled up! Deeper shade to push the lid back and a shimmer to open up the eyes. Also to generally even out the skin tones. But yes it's rare to see eyeshadow at all, people are just rocking lashes and liner which doesn't suit my eye shape at all. As always, trends look best on people who already have naturally attractive features..!

livelovelough24 · 12/09/2024 19:26

I wear them every day to the office and also dress up, elegant work clothes. I too noticed, however, that not very many women do it anymore and that is ok, to each their own. I am 54 btw.

LaFidola · 12/09/2024 19:27

I do, when I'm being a bit smarter or dressier.

I have really dark hair and eyelashes and Hazel eyes so luckily browny greeny shades really work and look quite natural on me whilst making me look a lot better!

I am sad about my eyelids though. They are getting very dry and a bit droopy/hooded. My eyes have always been my thing and I don't know how to save them. (I'm 42).

tobee · 12/09/2024 19:27

I'm not averse to wearing eyeshadow but I think it needs to be blended (certainly on me) and I'm hopeless at that

tealpassat · 12/09/2024 19:27

fortheveryfirsttime · 12/09/2024 18:49

I always wear a light cream shadow every day because otherwise my lids are a bit red. I'll use a slightly stronger colour if I'm going out.

Can I ask what you use? I'd like to neutralise my eyelids a bit..

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/09/2024 19:28

I wear it when I go out at night but not at work

istolethetalisker · 12/09/2024 19:28

I think dramatic eyes are out of fashion now, because cat eye was so big about ten years ago, and because after all the pandemic masks dramatic lippy is in.

I’m sure that in about five years it’ll be all about the eyes, and lips will be chapstick only.

wintersgold · 12/09/2024 19:31

Absolutely. I think well-chosen and well-applied eyeshadow can make the biggest difference to your eye shape, whether that's a subtle sheer look or a smokey eye. Blending it well takes more effort, but it's well worth it

AKingdomForACarrotstick · 12/09/2024 19:40

Daily and copiously! And just for the fun of it, too. I've heard of it being not fashionable any more, but I'm old, so I couldn't care less.
