New diamond ring for myself

newdiamondring · 05/09/2024 16:18

Name changed

Single mum by choice to 2 amazing 12 year olds
Had a very tough four years due to stress, poor health, and general depression which has been hellish
Am through it.
Kids just started at secondary school, and I get a bonus in October.
I want to buy myself a present to say well done for the last 13 years.

I've read loads about lab diamonds and would love a large eternity ring.

I wear a lovely ring on my right 3rd finger already which I don't want to move as it has massive emotional value. It lives there.

Qus.

What ring should I get?
Which ring should I wear it on?
Would it be weird to wear a ring on my left wedding finger? I don't care but many might think I've got engaged!?

All thoughts and ideas welcome 🙏

Our silver wedding is next year and I can’t conceive of wanting to replace my rings. My wedding ring has never left my finger and I hope it stays there until I’m in my coffin.

I got a platinum 3/4 lab eternity directly from China for an unbelievable price. £300! Not sure of carat weight - I bought by size for stacking purposes, so the diamonds are 2.5mm across. It's lovely! And the local jewellers grumpily confirmed they're real diamonds.

Can we see it

@Blossomtoes

I lost mine on holiday and my original ones weren't too expensive as we were poor students when we got married!

Yup.

I have worn a full eternity for 22 years and it's never dug in or caused pain, maybe as the diamonds are deeper set. I also have a half eternity which I no longer wear and that was pretty too.

I completely get it if they were lost. Hope I didn’t come across as critical, I just have so much sentiment invested in mine.

I have an eternity ring which I love. It is princess cut diamonds and channel set so no catching, it's a bit like this

On another finger I also have a diamond daisy ring which stacks with a diamond wishbone ring which is really pretty

Don't listen to any naysayers @newdiamondring I rewarded myself with a very expensive piece of jewellery when my youngest child left to go to university. I have worn it every day for over 10 years so my price per day is not bad Grin

The mappin and webb ring is really nice. I like it a lot.
Could you show me the daisy and wishbone combo?

If you’re East Sussex, I'd recommend Baroque in Brighton for new and/or bespoke.
Ive spent hours on their Instagram!
But echo a day trip to Brighton!

Anonmousse · 08/09/2024 18:37

Depending on budget constraints, (obviously the OP has more to spend than this) I would be wary of this one. It looks pretty but when I clicked on product details it says the metal weight is 1.7g which, imo, would make it quite fragile and liable to bend out of shape, which in turn can loosen the diamonds.

My engagement ring is a 1.2 carat lab grown diamond and you'd never know, when I was buying my wedding ring the staff in that particular jewellers commented how stunning it was, the same ring in a diamond is around £15k.
You mention Aylesbury, how about somewhere in Oxford or Winchester depending which way you are from there to have something made?

You'd never know what? It's a diamond for goodness sake. No different from any other diamond. What is there to know. It's like saying you'd never know my diamond cane from Botswana and not Australia.

angstypant · 08/09/2024 21:13

caringcarer · 06/09/2024 11:06

Lab grown diamonds don't hold their value whereas mined diamonds do. I think of lab diamonds as pretty fakes.

Good for you. They aren't though whatever you may think

Of you are planning to resell then you may want mined. But in all honesty unless it's a 2ct + stone it's not going to mate any difference. An eternity ring with small stones will fetch much the same whether it's lab or mined.
But then I assume you only have massive stones considering you are discussing resale and high value hmm?

I would never sell my engagement ring.

@HolidayHappy123 all of these ideas are beautiful.

I need to pay M&W a visit!

I love buying rings for myself! Not sure why people get weird about it.

For ages, I obsessed on the Boodles raindance ring. Found lots of ‘inspired by’ on Etsy, but ultimately, I wanted the jewellery shop experience.

So, after an inheritance last year I booked an appointment and went in. Although I’d have loved one of the big ones, I didn’t have the room on my finger for it.

I came out with this - which they couriered over from another branch for me.

Waterfall Half-Hoop Platinum Diamond Ring | Boodles

An intense light is the lure of this collection, vividly refracting on the delicate diamond band as if sunlight on one of nature's dramatic Waterfalls.

@newdiamondring Given up on pm. These are my stacking rings, apparently these were intended as engagement and wedding rings but I just like them
Excuse my very wrinkly hands!

I always think it's a pity to enclose beautiful diamonds in the Boodle style. There are so many workshops do this style now.

thecrossIambearing · 09/09/2024 14:43

The budget eternity ring for 400 - come on now, look at the total carat weight 1.5 . Those are diamond chips not diamonds. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
