Is this the worst dress ever?

I mean, I like the neckline, and would accept the flimsy cheap fabric (normal for now).
But who on earth looked at it and thought ' I know what that needs ...'

Is this the worst dress ever?

Is it worse than this though?
Yikes that looks like it should be adorning a spare toilet roll in a 70s bathroom

That IS the spare toilet roll , fashion into a Fri l

No. I like that too. That's nowhere near it.

Never had any of that with viscose.

Good quality viscose is much nicer than poor quality cotton or silk or cheap linen.

You've never bought from White Stuff then.

No. I don't think I've ever been in White Stuff.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/09/2024 05:56

(Oh … I’ve also never been into a White Stuff shop. Or Seasalt, or Mint Velvet, or Joe Browns, or Joules. And my one ‘killing time at the train station’ visit to an Oliver Bonas store was just as deeply underwhelming as I’d anticipated.

TBH I’ve only very recently seen Nobody’s Child anywhere beyond a Style & Beauty thread. Haven’t been into a Next, Hobbs, Reiss, Flannels for at least fifteen years.)

But anyway - if there is a worst dress in the world it’s probably been recommended on S&B by more than one person!

Iamiams · 07/09/2024 16:08

That's absolutely hideous.

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 07:57

@BlanklyMyDear where are you shopping? (I don't mean that those are all the shops I can think of, just I'm constantly looking for interesting clothes and despairing of my options.)

VenusClapTrap · 10/09/2024 08:17

I love the green version. I’ve seen it in Anthro and wanted to buy it, but I’ve bought too many dresses lately and couldn’t justify it. Also I’m short, and I think it needs height.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/09/2024 08:27

Where are you looking, @Doubleraspberry? Presumably you do shop mainly online?

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 08:31

No, not really. I’m extraordinarily bad at both knowing what will suit me without trying it on and organising myself to post returns, so at the moment I’m basically not buying anything as the shops are so dire. I’ve also recently lost weight which makes me even less sure what will suit me.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/09/2024 08:33

Hmm … In that case my suggestions would be useless! Grin

Which sounds somewhat un-empathetic - but I can’t tell you what’s in your local shops. Honestly, online shopping gets easier the more you do it. But you do need a tape measure.

Have a look at Collagerie (use the Menu wisely).

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 08:36

Tell me anyway. I do need to be better at trying online as the high street is so poor and I can’t afford the designer concessions!

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 08:37

I have had recentish success in Poetry and Arket for basics.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/09/2024 08:41

(Sorry - edited post above!)

I like the Wolf & Badger dress. The model looks great in the green one.
The UO one looks much better when worn by the model. The window dresser needs sacking as it looks awful in their window and not worth the money.

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 09:12

Thanks. I’ll take a look. It’s less the sizing and more simply being enable to visualise what a garment will look like on me!

Have you considered doing the Personal Shopper thing at John Lewis? Might be worth a one-off trip even if there isn’t one particularly nearby.

Doubleraspberry · 10/09/2024 10:51

Yes, I have. I may do that just for a better understanding of shapes that might work for me. What holds me back is that I can never find anything at all I want to buy in John Lewis when I wander round.

I actually think it looks worse on the model. Totally shapeless.

sarabaellty237 · 14/09/2024 22:28

yes old fashion

Happyhappyeveryday · 15/09/2024 08:58

I like it. So much nicer than a polyester floral or a knee length shift. It’s quite a cool look, IMO. I’ll be leaving it to the 20 somethings, however.

MidnightMeltdown · 15/09/2024 16:12

You like the neckline? 😄

To me, this a fancy dress costume for a milkmaid. It's hideous.

Is this the worst dress ever?
Doubleraspberry · 19/09/2024 10:39

Um, I have a very similar dress which I really like. BUT it's in a different fabric - that one looks like it would cling to any bumps at all.
