Is this the worst dress ever?

I mean, I like the neckline, and would accept the flimsy cheap fabric (normal for now).
But who on earth looked at it and thought ' I know what that needs ...'

Is this the worst dress ever?

@Awwlookatmybabyspider I think your baby spider has all grown up and found a new home 😆🕷

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Much better than the sparkly 100% sequin ones that get recommended on here ad infinitum as "party dresses"...

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 06/09/2024 08:50

What's wrong with that dress?

Perfectly lovely dress, though wouldn't look good on me. I'm suspicious about the lack of detail on the fabric, however—probably made of some god awful viscose or poly.

FlyHalf · 06/09/2024 19:42

I walked through M&S this week, thinking, This is the worst dress I've ever... no, wait, this is the... no! this is... etc. Not because they were actively awful, just drab drab drab polyester.

I'm a big M&S fan and I know they've turned a corner lately, but jeez, they send some real dreck out to us yokels in the provinces.

My nomination for "the worst dress ever" is one which regularly turns up on wedding guest threads.

Go on... you can't just tease.

My guess—it's a viscose wrap dress of some kind.

I don't mind viscose. Viscose is a natural fibre. High quality viscose made under the Tencel name is a beautiful fabric which drapes well and is environmentally better than non organic cotton.

I don't have problem with polyester just because it's polyester. Stine Goya and Baum und Pferdgarten have beautiful items in polyester. Not all polyester is the same.

The dress in question isn't viscose.

In theory, yes. In practice I usually find viscose feels horrible, doesn't breathe, and shrinks or bobbles when washed, even with expensive pieces.

Never had any of that with viscose.

Good quality viscose is much nicer than poor quality cotton or silk or cheap linen.

It looks like a winter nightie that the girls in Little Women would wear. Cosy.

Mercurial123 · 07/09/2024 06:46

@theleadbetterlife it's made from cotton.

beverleyhillscop · 07/09/2024 06:54

I like it.

I fucking love it and as of three days ago have it. I wore it today with DM Jadons and a white cropped broderie cut out denim jacket. I offset the black laces with punk jewellery. It's amazing.

I like the sound of that!

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 07/09/2024 07:31

It looks terrible in the shop window I agree but @BlanklyMyDear posted a link to a green version on a model which looks better.
Prairie chic with ribbon trussing is almost hot I'd say.

Also considering the Vinted, thrown together, fuggly aesthetic the youth have adopted, I can see the dress working.

needsomewarmsunshine · 07/09/2024 09:39

S&B seem to promote some very odd looking things on here. The dress in question is okay but hate the ribbon stuff, looks a cheap and nasty after thought.

Startingagainandagain · 07/09/2024 10:05

Little House On The Prairie does Halloween...

Bizarre.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/09/2024 10:12

My Dd would wear that and look amazing. Bows are very much a thing atm.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 07/09/2024 10:24

DD1 has it in green. She looks lovely in it (to be fair she looks lovely in pretty much anything). Her style icon is Vivienne Westwood but she can’t afford that (other than a couple of vintage pieces) via Little House on the Prairie and this dress was very appealing to her. She wore it yesterday with black DMs.

The bows are not done up very well on the window display one. When done properly it is a nice feature on anyone with a small waist. It is quite nice fabric and fairly well made. Probably a bit overpriced but many things are.

I can see the dress is not to everyone’s taste. But I’m astonished anyone would think it’s the worst dress ever.

Doubleraspberry · 07/09/2024 10:50

Not even CLOSE to be the worst dress ever. The average thread asking for Christmas Party ideas will get 10 worse than that.

I’m heading to UO today to try on the skirt that also comes in that range.

I'm sure your daughter will look lovely but it's not a dress which can only be worn by young people or thin people, which some posters seem to think.

This dress is cotton; @theleadbetterlife was asking about my nomination for "the worst dress ever" (which I referred to but didn't link to)

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 07/09/2024 11:33

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I totally agree you do not need to be young to wear the dress. And I agree you don’t need to be thin. But I do think for the dress to work you need a bit of a waist. I do not personally think it’s a style best suited to an apple shape.
