Has it happened - have these trousers become fashionable again?! 😮

Have these trousers have become fashionable again? I'm seeing similar styles around and about on fashionable creatures.

I've been hanging on to them for about 23 years because I love them and also in anticipation of a fashion resurgence.

Is this it? Is the resurgence happening? Can I finally wear them again without looking like a Some Saints* reject?

If so, what to wear them with?

Sorry for the arse picture - wanted to show the detail-y bits on the bum.

I'm exceptionally impressed you fit into trousers from 23 years ago....I doubt I could get my arms into trousers from that long ago never mind my arse....

I have no fashion sense so can't answer your question.

ThatsGoneAndDo · 29/07/2024 14:29

My daughter is 15 and covets things that look like Paris Hilton would wear in 2001.

I don't know what is happening.

ExpectantEs · 29/07/2024 14:30

Absolutely back in fashion! Enjoy your vintage cargos

AntiHop · 29/07/2024 14:31

Yes. I was looking online for some trousers for my daughter, and these trousers are everywhere. Apparently they're called parachute trousers.

TammyOne · 29/07/2024 14:32

I’m also impressed (actually green with envy) that you can still fit into them.
Yes, they are tres chic now.. for the Youth.
No. I’m sorry but the rule is, if you wore them the first time around you can’t wear them the second.
Donate to a niece/ daughter/ passing teenager.

isthismylifenow · 29/07/2024 14:32

I used to have a pair very similar to these.

I think the only way I would get them on now is if that tie was very very loose 😀

I did laugh at the arse comment.

But I have no clue if these are the height of fashion again, I just remember mine being not that comfy. (I am sure that tie had something to do with it)

TammyOne · 29/07/2024 14:33

Having said that, I have hung onto my low slung flares… 🔥
I just can’t do them up!

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 14:35

Be still my beating heart.

I'm not sure what's happening with the 00s fashion resurgence but I'm here for it.

Bollocks to the "rule" about not wearing them the second time around.

What should I wear them with? Let's assume crop-tops are out of the question!

If I looked like you do in trousers I was wearing 23 years ago I would wear a crop top with them.

Wear with pride and enjoy!

Coughsweet · 29/07/2024 14:46

They’ve been fashionable for ages. They were even selling in Uniqlo last October so that probably means that fashion moment is well and truly over once more.

PerfectTravelTote · 29/07/2024 14:46

I'm also super impressed that you still fit into them but it's a no from me unless the laced detail on your bum crack can be removed.

tribalmango · 29/07/2024 14:47

They look at bit like my action slacks walking trousers.
I don't look in the slightest bit fashionable in them, more like I'm off to do some walking.

I looked like I was about to go on military exercise when I tried to carry off the military/cargo look.

henlake7 · 29/07/2024 14:49

Ive seen plenty of them about but I didnt realiese they were actually 'fashionable'. I bought quite a few pairs just coz I thought they looked comfy and wouldnt drag on the ground if it rained!

(I will be digging out my 15yr old cargos though. They def fit the retro 90s vibe!).

MissSookieStackhouse · 29/07/2024 14:51

What absolute cobblers that you can’t wear them second time around if you still look good in them, which the OP does! Wish I’d kept mine, I will have to buy some more!

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 14:51

@tribalmango This is where I think the arse lace detail comes into its own because, to me, it screams "00s girl group wannabe" rather than "middle aged lady off on a hill-walk"

I am very much edging towards the latter category but my heart and dress sense still reside in the former.

Oh yeah. They're back.
I'm wearing mine.
But then again I never stopped wearing my low rise boot cut either.
Shoot me.

Alarae · 29/07/2024 14:54

I got very confused today when I walked past some pastel pink parachute pants today.

So clearly they must be the current trend (or the tailing end of it, as M&S themselves are definitely not trendsetters).

That proper made me laugh.

In theory, since I looked like "middle aged lady off on a hill walk" 30 years ago, I should now look like "00s girl group wannabe", right?

I have never owned anything (outside the bedroom) with arse lace detail.
Maybe I'll try some, take a pic and let MN jury decide (or my sister...she tells me how it is!).

Love it 😄 they look great too!

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 15:03

Thanks for all the positive vibes. I'll wash them and wear them with pride

But, what top? No crop-tops 🫣
And are plain white chunky pumps the way to go for footwear?

OP posts:
BottomlessBrunch · 29/07/2024 15:04

Racer back vest top or even oversized t shirt - younguns would wear one untucked but I couldn't do it myself I'd have to tuck in!

BottomlessBrunch · 29/07/2024 15:05

Footwear - Nike dunks or high top converse?
Again younguns (or rather 1st time round wearing these) would wear crocs but I still can't bring myself to buy any

DoingJustFine · 29/07/2024 15:06

When things come back into fashion they’re never exactly the same as first time round. I think the cool cargos today are much wider and looser than the ones we wore back in the 2000s.

BUT… the ones we wore were super flattering and have the power to make every thigh and arse look amazing so WEAR THEM WITH PRIDE.

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 15:07

Oooh, good shout on thr racer back tops. I have about a thousand of them 😅

I'm not sure I own an over-sized T-shirt. I could liberate one of DP's. But, yes, I'd have to tuck as well - at the risk of turning into my mother, young people look like a bag of rags with their baggy, untucked, oversized nonsense.

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 29/07/2024 15:10

@DoingJustFine That's very true but "vintage" stuff is highly sought after by the young folks. So perhaps my kecks slightly narrower leg is offset by their OG-status 😎
