Has it happened - have these trousers become fashionable again?! 😮

Have these trousers have become fashionable again? I'm seeing similar styles around and about on fashionable creatures.

I've been hanging on to them for about 23 years because I love them and also in anticipation of a fashion resurgence.

Is this it? Is the resurgence happening? Can I finally wear them again without looking like a Some Saints* reject?

If so, what to wear them with?

Sorry for the arse picture - wanted to show the detail-y bits on the bum.

*Some Saints is a pound-shop All Saints tribute group that lives in my head rent free.

@tribalmango This is where I think the arse lace detail comes into its own because, to me, it screams "00s girl group wannabe" rather than "middle aged lady off on a hill-walk"

I am very much edging towards the latter category but my heart and dress sense still reside in the former.

I am definitely in the second category but when I wear my cargo trousers I feel like (although sadly don’t look like) Nicole Appleton. Although I’m still a size 12, unfortunately I discarded by first pair of cargos about 5 years ago, I was convinced they would never come back into fashion!

quockerwodger · 29/07/2024 19:17

I'd be very tempted to get some palladium Pampa boots, body suit and cropped denim jacket or a flannel shirt..

But I am not stylish.. or slim.. or young.. 🤣

I could put that look together. I think I might look more like 'Nicole Appleton's fat nan' though.

WhatNext24 · 29/07/2024 22:25

Oh, you have to wear with a camo boob tube OP.

Congrats on still fitting in them!

JasmineTea11 · 29/07/2024 22:31

I have a pair of burgundy trousers from the late 90's with that lace tie-up thing, but at the front. At the time they were 'in', think Shakira stylee lol. I have never been able to chuck them out and every few years see if they still fit me (just), so I live in hope of the cargo / lace detail revival!!

IThinkAdversePossessionApplies · 29/07/2024 22:32

Wear them! I've got a similar pair (but without the arse lace) that I bought in 2001. They've been relegated to gardening trousers for the last 10 years or so, which I now regret as they're apparently back in fashion. Unfortunately mine are a bit too battered for me to get away with in public!

Ah, I had those front lace-up ones too.

Fuck living in hope of a revival - let's make the lace-up detail revival happen!

That lace-up in the back is like Ellen Ripley's flight suit in "Alien".

I’m also impressed (actually green with envy) that you can still fit into them.
Yes, they are tres chic now.. for the Youth.
No. I’m sorry but the rule is, if you wore them the first time around you can’t wear them the second.
Donate to a niece/ daughter/ passing teenager.

I have never heard such utter bull crap in my entire life.

Wear them with pride OP!

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2024 04:53

Yes they are in fashion again but … and please don’t take this as a criticism, because I certainly couldn’t fit into trousers from that long ago, but they need to be super baggy, slung low, and worn with a crop top. They’re a little bit too fitted to be super fashionable. Think at least 3 or 4 sizes too big.

TheYoungestSibling · 30/07/2024 09:41

OMG I still have a pair with the beaded design on the outside of the lower leg, think Jennifer Aniston!

I've lost some weight this past year, maybe they will fit me now.

Styling them, I'd have a look at people like TheSilverKat on instagram, I love her style.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2024 11:07

Jennifer Aniston’s ones were Maharishi Snopants - I’ve got some with an embroidered dragon on the leg. If I ever get into them again I’ll be ecstatic.

TonyTigerKindaSexy · 30/07/2024 12:51

I'm loving the reminiscence about old school clobber on here!

@TheYoungestSibling I'd never heard of TheSilverKat because I'm not on social media. I've just looked her up - she's fabulous and has a lovely style.

This thread has really cheered me up while I recover from a horrible sickness bug. Fellow millennial trying to process the 00s fashion revival. Thanks everyone 😊

TurquoiseDress · 30/07/2024 12:58

I had a pair like that around the year 2000 when channelling the All Saints (girl group) look!

Doubt they would fit me now Grin

Maelil01 · 30/07/2024 13:01

As someone else said, if you wore them the 1st time don’t wear them when they come back.
Also, the up-to-date versions are worn loose. You’re slim but those are making your bottom look extremely “hungry”!

I'm not quite sure how to say this politely ... my bum looks hungry because I was bending over 😳I did think about that before posting and then just thought "Fuck it"

Honestly, bending over was purely to show the lace-up bits.

JFC - This is like the start of a terrible porno.

There'd be nothing left for me to wear. Grin

JackieGoodman · 30/07/2024 16:19

Yep, definitely "in", you will be the envy of all the young uns, authentic retro clothes Grin
I have an embroidered down the leg pair, not sure I'm ready to re-wear them but I'll be pairing similar with a band tee.

Hatty65 · 30/07/2024 16:32

On a slightly different note, my teenager has become 'into' 90s Indie bands and that type of music. He is genuinely offended and horrified if I have heard of some 'cool' band like - ooh, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins...

Mate. I've seen Oasis and RHCP live.

He's also just come back from seeing Catfish and the Bottlemen and was thoroughly pissed off to have me sing 'Longshot' at him to annoy him. It's not cool if your Mum knows it, obviously. 😂

Sherryonthecake · 30/07/2024 17:38

You look good op!!

I lurrrrrrved my Hooch cargo pants back in the 90's/00's. I hope I looked like the photo attached 😅 swear they were more flattering than jeans. I wore them lowwww on my hips with a bikini top and skater back vest probs from O'Neill or Hooch again. Thought I was so cool especially paired with platform trainers like these from Buffalo!

Buffalo still sell platform sneakers/sliders, they'd work well OP if you wanna go proper vintage All Saints cool!

And my 15 year old DD was sporting khaki cargo pants paired with white platform trainers just last year/year before!

LoneHydrangea · 30/07/2024 17:43

I was pregnant when they were last in, and I lived in the two pairs I had from River Island. They were a size 14, and I was wearing them at 9 months. They’d probably fit me now 🤔 but I didn’t keep them.

I am definitely going to buy some this time around.
