The absolute nerve of society demanding we are thin, ageless and spend our money on staying young and slim as possible really is the worst. The bloody audacity of some business man making money from insecurity. Well fuck him, he's no longer getting it from us!

I've had enough of not enjoying my life to its fullest because I'm a size 20. I'm fat. But I'm fun. I'm really quite nice. I'm so many other things than being overweight.
I deserve to enjoy my clothes and experiences now as much as I did when I was slim. And the only thing stopping me is an unrealistic standard society has set to profit from my insecurity and I'm too stubborn to give in anymore.

Women have so much stress, so many of us are overweight because it's cheaper/ quicker to eat things that haven't taken hours of cooking. So many of us are taking antidepressants which make us hungrier than we used to be. We smoke less. We've gotten bigger as a whole and the circle of feeling miserable/guilt/shame about being fat makes it more likely we'll turn to food for comfort, so we have to accept were bigger, we will do all we can to keep active and be mindful of what we're eating without obsessing but most importantly we stop putting happiness and joy on hold until we fit back into a pair of jeans you had in your 20s.

We're conditioned to hate ourselves. Look at the amount of stunning slim young women all spending money on botox and ozempic when they should be out having a riot, enjoying travel and parties but instead spending all their time trying to look like the kardashian prototype. It's so sad and we're almost all doing it, no matter how lovely we are, most women are being crushed by looking a way that it's almost impossible to obtain naturally.

I say fuck it, if someone has any issues with how I look then so what? I wasn't planning to shag them anyway! 😁

Lol I love this! You know what, you're right. No one is 100% happy with the way they look because we've been conditioned that if you're not a size 0, 6ft model, then you're not happy. But most of those models aren't happy either.
I still have body dysmorphia, but I am trying every day to accept who I am and tell my mind that you're wrong! I'm off work for the summer now, so I'm going to learn to accept myself and just have some bloody fun!

What a fabulous post! And the bit about being conditioned to find fault with ourselves, and seeing gorgeous young women spending £££s on altering themselves in the name of 'beauty', just gave me such a light bulb moment. Thank you!

great post @Lwrenn

Its a very important and poweful time in a womens life when she understands this, and starts to reject all this nonsense and believe in herself.

Never forget how many huge powerful industries profit from women's misery, body isses and low self esteem. Diet, fashion, pharmaceutical, make up etc all benefit and exploit these insecurities and spend millions/billions in advertisments that target women exploiting and exasbertating them. Now we also have influencers and social media doing their dirty work for them too.

Lwrenn · 11/07/2024 15:12

I'm on bed rest and my soap box 😂

I hate seeing women, these glorious wonderful creatures that have collectively been through so much, that have so much to offer the world and here we are, arsed over a bit of an tummy apron. And it's so ingrained in us to feel apologetic about our bodies not looking like Victoria's secret models and the reality is, not even Victoria's secret models look like that without days of dehydration prior.

I had a daughter last year and until her I wore leggings and baggy t shirts, never anything I liked, I just hid. I didn't want her to grow up seeing her mum hiding in all black clothing and hoodies and I've become really cross at how something as unimportant as being plus size stopped me from being someone who enjoyed pretty clothes etc and now I'm furious after our threads so many of us have felt this way.

Every person deserves to feel at home in their body and look how gorgeous all our outfits have been! We're such a cool and beautifully dressed bunch. 💖
(Excluding my compression socks😂)

I don’t know if it’s just me, but actually making the pictures anonymous has made me feel better about how I look.

It’s easy to feel bad about yourself and think others are judging you, but I actually was surprised that I didn’t look as large as I felt and if I saw someone else that looked like that I would just think how nice they looked.

I love everyone else’s outfits too 😍

GoingDownDown · 11/07/2024 19:43

That’s really great, I felt similarly when I posted a headless photo of myself - that dress really did liii good on me!

What a fantastic post @Lwrenn ❤️❤️❤️
When I was younger, I always said I would have plastic surgery, boob job, lipo, tummy tuck, facelift, I said i'd have it all, I mean I am way too poor for any of that, but I am so glad I didn't have the means or opportunity to have any of it because now in my 40's I love my greying hair and my smile lines. I love my 3x c section apron after hating it for years because it gave me my babies. I am happy with my boobs, after thinking they were too small for years. Every new wrinkle, every new grey hair makes me feel more comfortable, I always thought i'd hate getting older, but I don't. I have a long way to go in accepting me, but i'll get there and I really hope my daughter and my granddaughter and all the other young women and girls can feel comfortable in their own skin too! The currrent trend for botox and fillers makes me so sad, it's like a uniform of self hatred.

Just catching up! While I do, can anyone recommend any jeans/jeggings for a large overhanging belly? I’ve been wearing a next pair for a couple of years (don’t wear them loads 😂) but I find they just look sloppy now and a lot emphasise my tummy. I don’t particularly want to hide it - I mean there is no hiding it - I just don’t want it to be the highlight! Jeans and blazers were my thing when I was slimmer and because I can’t find any jeans that fit nice I feel like I’ve lost my identity a bit.

I’m feeling a bit fed up for a few reasons - my body included - and I realise that with the exception of my new dresses and trousers and a couple of old pairs, there’s nothing else in my wardrobe that I like. And nothing fits properly which is another massive bugbear of mine. I feel like chucking it all out and starting again.

Apologies for the pity party for one!!

I picked up from a charity shop some boden jeans and they're the most amazing fit, I've had them for 3 years or so now and they were second hand prior, best 4 quid I've ever spent. I didn't realise boden was a big mumsnet fave, tbh I'd never heard of them before but they're really generous size and good quality.

Jeggins from simply be are quite good and maintaining their shape, but they wash very meh.

I'm also going through a pity party today, nothing feels comfortable on except baggy t shirts but I want to look all chic and bohemian. I'm honestly furious 🤣

TragicMuse · 13/07/2024 13:00

Oh now then! Laura Adlington recommends these amzn.eu/d/0e5YJ9re

Not cheap but apparently they're amazing! And she's a 22 and wears the 16.

TragicMuse · 13/07/2024 13:01

And for begging I have discovered Live Unlimited. Though I also got some from Sainsbury's which aren't bad...

TragicMuse · 13/07/2024 13:01

Jeggings not begging!!

Don’t chuck it out and start again: stick it all on Vinted and start again!

I know how you feel about jeans. I used to love jeans - with brogues or Chelsea boots and a shirt. My uniform! Then I had kids and all my weight went around my hips and now I really struggle with jeans. I do find good knickers help a lot - not suck you in type (can’t stand them personally), but ones that are sturdy enough to hold the belly in place rather than letting it wobble down.

Ive recently had success with Simply Be jeans, and Fat Face (had to size down twice in FF).

Soccermumamir · 14/07/2024 10:00

For jeans the best ones are the stretchy denim ones, so there's movement.
I'm looking for some for autumn and winter - well it feels like autumn now here to be honest where I live lol 😆

I have MOM jeans which are really comfortable and always buy them a size up. So I'm a size 10, but will buy the 12 so that they are a much looser fit, but not baggy. Hope that makes sense.

Lwrenn · 14/07/2024 12:33

Are we planning autumn clothes already? Is summer that much of a pipe dream were just all thinking about nice and cosy?

I had the heating on yesterday, I was freezing so I'm here for a thread on toasty yet stunning clothes for us!

Has anyone ever bought Joe browns shoes? They've got some quirky sandals I like the look of on simply be and I'm wondering if I should pick them up, probably to wear next year now.

TragicMuse · 14/07/2024 12:40

I'm still holding out for summer @Lwrenn!!

I've got dresses to wear and am thinking about the possibility of some shorts. Maybe.

I usually buy charity shop jeans and cut them down! But I have some Sainsbury ones which were too short so I unpicked the hem. Now they're the right length but the seam lines are really obvious. I might put a floral cotton hem-facing on them to pretty them up a little but retain the length...

ChishiyaBat · 14/07/2024 12:44

I'm also still hoping for a little bit of summer, although I think it'll be end of August/start of September. I'm always freezing, been under 2 blankets for the last few weeks, it's shit. Ooh @Lwrenn I like the sound of quirky sandals, what are they like?

I'm wearing my crops while I decide what to do with them.

I'm wearing them with a very old Primark swing top, a Lucy Locket Loves crop top and a hoodie. All temperatures covered!

It's firmly not for facing the public, unless I need to pop to Asda and go completely incognito...

Soccermumamir · 14/07/2024 15:52

Oh I'm still holding out for a bit of summer. I go away next weekend with my mum and then go away middle if August with OH and 2 ds'. Both in the UK so praying for some decent weather.

These ones! I tried to link but it just wouldn't work for some reason, but I screen shot the front of simply be in case the sale is of use to anyone, the do flash sales quite regularly.

I love them but almost 40 quid for sandals seems so expensive to me unless they're something that really last like saltwater sandals, but they're so cool 😎

Do you have an account with simply be? If so check out perks and see if there's a code for money off discount?

Yeah I know what you mean, £40 for something you might only get to wear once a year, but they are snazzy, I love the colour and the fringe!

I was going to get the trousers, but one of my rescue budgies Morgana suddenly collapsed and then died in my hands almost 3 weeks ago, her brother Remiel has been a bit lonely since so instead of the trousers I got a 10 week old grey budgie instead, this is Skadi💙. The green one is one of my 4 parrotlets Lillith, the blue&white budgie is Remiel and that beautiful little grey&black budgie is Skadi. Much better than trousers😁. Edit because I missed out little cloudy sky Gabriel at the bottom
