About to do it - Crocs

Ok they’re bloody hideous. And I’m in my 60s so way over the stage where they’re cute. But I have arthritis, no suitable sandals are comfortable. I have Teva classics which are great but only on a solid surface as gravel, sand gets inside and blisters my feet. I’m going to Cornwall. I need something comfortable and good for on the beach. I’m not happy about this choice but unless anyone can come up with a comfortable and less hideous option, I’m doomed.

I'm loving how many people have been converted to Crocs. I have been wearing them for years - used to get mine in TK Maxx. Currently wearing a lovely beige pair of mock Crocks from Asda George. My feet will never go back into normal shoes - just Crocks and trainers!

goldenlloyd · 23/06/2024 22:21

I've worn their ballet flat styles for years and love them. Wear them for work all the time and don't think anyone's ever noticed. There's a stand up called Ali Wong who did a Netflix special wearing them while pregnant, and I just copied her 😂

chalkyc2 · 23/06/2024 22:26

You know the teens all wear them like they did sliders a few years ago? With socks!

Go and look in Office - they have a lovely set of 'neutrals'!!

SwordToFlamethrower · 23/06/2024 22:53

I don't get the hate. They're shoes. Comfortable shoes. It is baffling. Meanwhile, women wear ridiculous high heels that literally cripple your feet and no one says a word.

OliveK · 23/06/2024 22:56

Check their website, lots on sale!

Summertimer · 23/06/2024 23:06

I think they are comfortable and practical for holidays and beaches, but they won’t keep the sand out.

For me Crocs and Birkenstock are a bit wide. I love a knitted trainer on the beach. The sand goes in but easily tips out and good brands like Sketchers have an arch support.

My go to comfy slip on clogs are Haflinger. A bit pricey but so worth it.

AnnieSnap · 23/06/2024 23:45

How is the sizing?

Cheermonger · 23/06/2024 23:49

I was an early adopter when everyone laughed! Then had decades where my feet hurt/no crocs because people laughed! Now I’m 58 and am back with lilac tie die monstrosities - my feet no longer hurt and it’s marvellous . Just embrace it 😍

Topseyt123 · 24/06/2024 00:17

I love my crocs. I have a black pair and a bright blue pair. They are sooo comfortable. I've never really cared what other people think of them.

I was looking at some bright yellow and bright pink ones in Sports Direct a couple of weeks ago. The sort where you almost need sunglasses on to look at them. I was tempted, and I might yet go for it. 🤣🤣

SimplyVibrations · 24/06/2024 06:06

I like crocs.
Try fitflops for unbelievable comfort too - expensive through...

Bridgertonne · 24/06/2024 07:23

I have a white pair, I’ve just returned from holiday and found them great for the slightly rocky beach.
I used to have a beige pair when they were around and lived in them but this time they are beach only.

Apparently they run a bit big

Whoops my fingers slipped and I've ordered a pair after reading this thread.

Haha this is exactly what happened to me and now my kids own a pair each too...

DayIntarnishedarmour · 24/06/2024 23:08

Sheldoncoopersspot. I’m a croc enabler now

I had no plans to buy, or for that matter ever wear, Crocs. I’m so easily influenced, after reading this thread and being brought back to it by new posts several times, I have ordered some 🤷‍♀️ They have a seriously good 50% sale on the UK website, with some (plenty of) styles having an additional 10% off, applied at checkout. Free delivery and returns too. What choice did I have once I was there? 😳

DayIntarnishedarmour · 25/06/2024 00:34

AnnieSnap

I hope you love them. I’m going into town to get some tomorrow. I want to try them on because I’m going away on Fri so can’t get them online. Not sure if the sizing is the same as when I got thr ancient pair I wear indoors. They must be about 20 years old.

AnnieSnap · 25/06/2024 18:09

@DayIntarnishedarmour how you find some lovely ones for your holiday. I’m a bit worried about the sizing. The reviews suggest they are very inconsistent and that it seems to vary according to which country that pair have been manufactured in 😲

NecklessMumster · 25/06/2024 18:17

DayIntarnishedarmour · 22/06/2024 20:44

Well I feel so much better about this now I know I’m not alone. I’m off to town on Monday and am going for it. I shall wear them conviction and no shame. I have an ancient pair of brown ones (from when they first came on the market ) that I only wear indoors and there is no tread left on them now but they are so comfy. Thank you everyone. Here’s to comfort

Watch out for when the tread goes, I slipped in the garden wearing mine, sole had worn smooth and I smashed my teeth on patio 😟
But I have now bought a new pair, pale pink

Topseyt123 · 25/06/2024 20:48

Hibernatalie · 24/06/2024 21:38

Do it!!

I'm tempted. I'm back in Cambridge for a couple of days this week for DD3's graduation, so will be near to that shop.

I do solemnly promise though that I won't turn up to a Cambridge graduation ceremony in garishly coloured crocs. 🤣🤣🤣 DD would disown me and I probably wouldn't be let in.

Ouch, hope you’re okay now, with teeth all fixed. I’ll definitely bear that in mind 😲

DayIntarnishedarmour · 25/06/2024 22:39

I second the worn treads. The pair I nave are ancient and treads are all but totally gone. Even on lino they are slippy if there’s any water on the floor. That’s why i wanted new ones. However I did wear them out and about today as it was dry to see how I got on. My feet and ankles now ache . Am a bit worried about gettting new ones for out for holiday.

@deeahgwitch exact same bright pink crocs for summer in house and fur lined tie die crocs for winter in house as slippers but currently using them for garden since they can just go in the wash. I still find them ugly as but they are so comfy! 😂
