Although the summer so far has been disappointing!

I shared this on the previous thread but will reshare here because only Charles would attempt backyard football in full suit with pocket square and highly polished loafers!

Part placemark, part non style question.

What's that white thing in the trees on the left of the photo? Some sort of security camera housing?

NottsNora · 16/06/2024 11:28

It looks like one of the aliens in the Smash adverts in the 1970s.

Love his style!
Happy Father's Day, Pa! Is quite sweet, though.

It is a wooden frame of some sort set into an arch way in the stone wall - I assume a gate/door way that is open.

More than the outfit the hand in pocket suggests Charlie isn't really committing to the game!

eggandonion · 16/06/2024 11:34

Thank you everyone.
I always thought the Queen Mother was very influential in keeping things done the way the late king would have liked. I think the abdication has affected everyone in the younger generations.
I can see this in my inlaws...Two women are struggling to look after an elderly mother because daddy would have wanted them to.
Sophie is a wonderful quiet presence.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 11:34

Yes, I doubt it was taught that way at Gordonstoun.

Good eye. I would never have worked that out but I can see the stonework now.

Sweet photo from Kate and kids on their Instagram!

It took me a few minutes, a zoom in and some squinting to get there.

The football photo looks odd in 2024 but it is very of its time. I don't think Charles was the only father to do this, it was a far more formal age.

KillingMeDeftIy · 16/06/2024 13:51

Was it that much more formal in the mid-80s? I think it’s more that the royal family, especially Charles, was!

It was lovely to see Kate back yesterday and looking so happy. I hope everything continues well for her.

I thought Louise had really upped her hair-game yesterday - I thought it was one of her best formal looks so far.

Sophie and Kate both looked great.

It's a shame that KC has decided only working royals on the balcony for this. It's sort of a family celebration, so why not have everyone up there for just this one thing annually - it would have been great to see some of the others and more frocks up there!

My dad didn't own any trousers that were not essentially suit trousers. No short sleeved shirts. Not tee shirts. And that was the 80s!

gingercat02 · 16/06/2024 14:10

@hopeishere that very much depends on your social circle.
The men in my family lived in jeans and t shirts or open necked shirt, they were all trades people, or skilled manual workers (plumber sign writer shop keeper)
Suits or formal trousers were for special occasions. A nice night out would have been chino type trousers and a shirt

CarolinaInTheMorning · 16/06/2024 14:13

I assume football was not Charles's game. But I don't think that should call his physical prowess into question. The man jumped out of airplanes and played polo in his younger days.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 14:16

He was quite the action man in his younger days.

My dad wore a suit to work but also had casual clothes - maybe he was ahead of his time! But I grew up in the southern hemisphere so no doubt it was different there.

I think it’s a tactical move to stop Andrew from wanting to be there
