Although the summer so far has been disappointing!

Here's Leti in summer white. I'm not keen, I think the blouse is a bit fussy and seems to overwhelm her. However, I am a bit prejudiced against ruffles!

I’m with you on disliking ruffles @Maireas. Maybe it’s because they make me personally look like a dogs dinner 😆

Maireas · 16/06/2024 15:08

I think I haven't recovered from the 80s, @smilesy !

This week the Danish royal horses were released into some rural fields in Denmark for their annual summer holiday. There is a beautiful video of them on this link. Plus some pictures of Queen Mary watching their release.

Even at this casual country event someone has presented her with flowers which seems a bit much but... the horses 😍

Aw, how nice! The horses have a summer holiday! Don't the Royal Horse Artillery ones go to the seaside?

My dad wore a suit to work but also had casual clothes - maybe he was ahead of his time! But I grew up in the southern hemisphere so no doubt it was different there.

I'm older than William my dad was in a suit and tie every day for work but still had jeans/shorts/t-shirts/jumpers etc for evenings and weekends. He was born and bread in SE England.

Edit to add - perhaps more pertinently dad is a few years older than Charles.

They do! But the British horses have more of a summer camp in either Leicestershire or Norfolk where they are still being ridden.

It seemed like the Danish horses get a complete break and do nothing but perhaps that's not strictly true.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 15:57

I just like the idea of a horsey holiday 😊

Does anyone live in Windsor castle these days?

Thank you for the new thread @Maireas

Was it that much more formal in the mid-80s? I think it’s more that the royal family, especially Charles, was!

I think it was more formal than today professional circles, especially since lockdown which seems to have been death to suits and ties in many workplaces. But I agree that being royal added an extra layer of formality.

RockaLock · 16/06/2024 17:14

Ah yes, of course, @smilesy, I had forgotten about Andrew...

justasking111 · 16/06/2024 19:43

I read somewhere that the Lodge Andrew is living is wanted back by Charles. Personally I think the exterior is god awful. In historical photos it was much nicer. Now it's a block of Wall's ice-cream. I wonder if he wants to restore it.

💐@Maireas for the new thread.

RomainesToBeSeen · 16/06/2024 20:10

Thanks for the new thread @Maireas.

The photo of Charles 'playing football' with William is hilarious and a nice nod to the first England football game tonight.

I thought Kate looked amazing yesterday and just lovely to see her and the children back for Trooping the Colour.

Evening, Bambi! Oh, I like it 🤩!
It reminds me a bit of the Girls of GB&NI tiara, similar design, maybe?
It's a beauty.

(Thanks for the new thread, Maireas!)

Here’s Charles running in the dad’s race at a school sports day in 1989 - so not yet Eton, as William would only have been 8 at most. Such a contrast to sports day at my childrens’ school now!

Serenster! 👋
Oh my goodness, look at all the dads running the race in shirts and ties!

Sophie at a farm. I rather like this navy suit, it's a McQueen, and the cut and fit are good. Lovely picture of her in the field.

I love that suit on Sophie, and the blouse underneath. She looks really good. What are her shoes? Are they sort of espadrille wedges or are they trainers? I can’t quite make them out

Serenster · 16/06/2024 20:37

(Charles looks the fittest of the bunch too, by some way! I think he was possibly strategically not winning 🤣 )

Maireas · 16/06/2024 20:39

He was always very fit and toned, he really looked after himself.

Thanks for the new thread @Maireas. Just catching up.

I do slightly lament the move to more casual clothes (for men and women). I think everyone looks better in smarter clothes.

Maireas · 16/06/2024 20:52

Evening, @MotherofPearl ! I feel the same but I rarely say it because I seem a bit straight laced, but it's true!

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 16/06/2024 20:57

The older I get the more I embrace my inner strait-laced self! Grin

I guess there are exceptions - Zara Philips, for example, generally looks better in casual wear. But William looks a million times better in a smart suit than The Dreaded Fleece.
