All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

L&S - Kit is gorgeous! Almost makes me want one myself. at post-birth weight drop, as long as you're eating enough protein and possibly take an iron supplement then you should be OK. I'm always very anaemic post-birth and it's easy to just write it off as 'tired'.

I'm fascinated by all the spotty legs from brushing. Not fascinated enough to try it myself though!

Another day of hard physical work for me. I think the key to fitness is to have too many animals. I've been clearing out some old stables and have made several trips to the dump. Now I feel like I've been hit by a truck so I'll be having a soak, feet-up and early night.

I've eaten cereal; lime juice & iron supp; seafood sandwich; apple; salmon, new potatoes & peas; jam & fresh cream doughnut. Lots and lots of water.

Face & hand cream yes but hands are all dried out anyway. Will do body lotion post-bath.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/04/2008 19:57

moonshine - I do exactly what marina suggested for knees. The rice scrub thing DH bought me from Crabtree & Evelyn is seriously good stuff for exfoliating. No advice on the slip front though!

And I have absolutely no knowledge of this Mad Men of which marina & enid speak...?

L&S - he's proper gorgeous. And I'm loving your minimalist MN profile. Short. And to the point. lol.

Enid - I got a bit spotty (botty & thighs) when I started using this deep sea salty scrub thingy I use. It got better. Thank God.

Have done lotions and potions today but not much else. I'm drinking whisky again. Will go self-flagelate.

ChutneyMary · 10/04/2008 21:31

Hello all Sorry for radio silence, got a lot on at the moment. Bootcamp dreadful for many reasons. I'll be back properly shortly.

L&S, he is gorgeous! Well done you.

WideWebWitch · 10/04/2008 21:32

No idea what Mad Men are either

I am also curiously relived about Enif's knees

DofN, you are so active, that sounds knackering AND you're pregnant, you put some of us (me) to shame.

L&S, welcome back, he is GORGEOUS. You must look after yourself as well you know (sorry if my tone is lecturing, it's meant to be kindly stern really) so do try to eat won't you.

Moonshine, I've come to the conclusion that I can't do fake tan, I ALWAYS get it wrong, despite exfoliating and moisurising etc etc. Sorry, that's no help but wonder whether getting it done in a salon with a spray might work? I was miserably contemplating the tights/bare legs at work conundrum today. I wore tights all last summer because my legs are SO awful, it would hae been cruel to inflict them on anyone and I remember Issy's thread where the consensus was that bare legs in office = OK if they are lithe, tanned etc. but not if middle aged, veiny corned beef etc. I haven't ever owned a slip so no idea. Hmm.

Poor you Prufrock, hope you feel better soon. Is your dh also a racehorse, while you are a packhorse

TERRIBLE DAy, I can't even begin to admit what I ate. It was a lot
but no booze tonight and I have had a lovely bath and scrubbed and exfoliated and have smooth legs and used body butter and Flexitol so that's good. And will be asleep by half 10.
I cannot believe how much better I feel for the new hours. My contract has been extended again until the end Nov, so that's good as I can take December off and look for something new in Jan. So feeling happy.

Mad Men Sunday night, BBC4.
Curvy Boot Camp idol is Christina Hendricks in the green dress.
It is an extremely entertaining drama all round. The fashions are stunning.

marina · 10/04/2008 21:39

Fab news re the contract www
Chutney, please tell me your roof was back on for the snow on Sunday...

unknownrebelbang · 10/04/2008 22:39

Late posting, oops.

He's gorgeous L&S. The only time I've ever not bothered about food was just after I had DS1, twas amazing!

Hope you're feeling better soon Prufrock.

Good news about the contract www.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze.
  • No exercise.
  • Lots of weak tea.
  • Apply body cream lax
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm - asleep just after 10 last night, and I managed to get a reasonable night too.
  • Eat healthily, erm, was too busy to eat much at work (although DH did manage to ring me just as I popped to the shop (and automatically assumed I'd been to fetch chocolate I hadn't!) but I've eaten too much tonight, again.
  • Be happy. Yay, all my monthly deadline stuff is completed! Ok, so I was there almost 10 hours today, (I'm supposed to do 5) but it's done! I'm shattered, but happy, and will take the lieu-time next week. Already told (not asked) my boss I'm doing so. (I'm not that rude, I did end with "if that's ok with you" lol.)

Only downside is DS1 has a sickness bug now.

Prufrock · 10/04/2008 22:45

Excellent news www.

I am pale as pale can be, but was fake baked last summer (prior to the Caribbean Odyssey) and it looked wonderful - it was the rub on stuffrather than spray, and my salon did a full exfoliation first, and even contoured me so it looked like I was super toned and six-packed. Fake bake gives a much less orange effect than the daily moisturising ones.

And no, dh is more of a mule - He's only had 5 days off sick since I've known him, and three of those he was in hospital hooked up to IV antibiotics. So at least he is aware of how horrid this bug is, and is being suitably sympathetic. When he came home tonight the kids were in the bath and by the time he'd climbed the stairs I was undressed and in bed, whimpering at him that he just had to take over. But drugs have kicked in now!

LoveAndSqualor · 11/04/2008 10:32

hello! thank you all for admiring the beauty of the child - am quite partial to him myself . have now caught up with thread and so would like to quickly say (pardon split infinitive)

saggars, am so sorry to hear about your friend's dd. According to a friend of mine who was in a similar position not so long ago, the best thing for friends to do is not to pretend the situation isn't happening; to ask questions and so forth (even if the questions are only 'do you want me to ask you about this or shall I wait until you bring it up?'). Good wishes to you and them.

batters and at your MIL. My word. Hilariously (or not) my DP's mother said something similar to me, but about our respective calves (legs, not baby cows). DP apparently has 'race horse' calves and ankles, while mine are more 'beast of burden'. The really sad thing is that i must confess she is right.

Which brings me on to legs generally. Am most amused to hear of everyone else's spotty legs/bottom (actually on that note the post-birth hormone exodus has turned me into a spot monster at just the time when people want to take my picture. Lovely. May resort to holding DS up in front of my face if this continues). Moonshine, I find vigorous, erm, body brushing helps tone down the nicotine patches when I do the tinted moisturiser thing - which I have to do because my legs are BRIGHT white and blinding in the summer. In fact I too have been known to wear tights in summer months because it is frankly unreasonable to expect others to deal with the glare. Determined to get them out this year, though, as I won't be in the office - it's now or never.

Duchess - anaemia - I hadn't thought and that is most likely part of the problem - haven't been taking iron supplements since he was born and I've just remembered that I'm supposed to be! Ureb, glad I'm not the only one whose appetite fled - it's all just so overwhelming that food feels like the last thing on the menu (as it were). Having said that, I think I detect some hunger pangs now, so will head off for some morning bread, jam and cheese.

oof, long post, sorry! Have great days, everyone.

moonshine · 11/04/2008 11:48

Thanks for the advice all. I shall attempt some more rigorous exfoliating/brushing but think I shall need something industrial.

I've never seen Mad Men but have seen the trailers and the women do look gorgeous - much better than the size zero culture of today. A young Liz Taylor also used to end up looking gorgeous in her slip in many a film I seem to remember (She looked especially lovely in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof).

WWW - I could never summon up the courage to go to a salon for a spray tan. Prufrock - being contoured sounds especially scary! Maybe I should resign myself to tights (or some good support stockings for extra ventilation!) being one of those non lithsome, middle-aged corned-beefed legged women.

Your work life seems to be really on the up which is great news - no 'normal' job is worth suffering for imho.

Batters - are you back in the gym yet?

I went today and seemed to be getting less fit. But needed to go to justify the booze I know I'll be drinking soon after a week of being at home trying to entertain the dcs.

marina · 11/04/2008 11:57

That's exactly it moonshine - Liz in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
L&S, luckily I have The Ankles in our house, although given the rest of me looks like the Venus of Willendorf at the moment, that's not much of a boast. You sound very well - and yes, I think being photographed with your gorgeous ds obscuring your entire face is good for two reasons -

  • Knocks Touche Eclat into a cocked hat
  • acts as metaphor for The Way Your Life Will Now Be. You will either be taking the photos, or in use as prop only

Am bootcamping OK at mo - light lunch, 15,000 steps outside on average, lots of water
Happiness good too but will not tempt fate by whacking thighs with clothes brush just yet

www - great news about the contract.

Sorry about all the sickness bugs and wishing it's victims swift recoveries.

Saw midwife again today (she only came this week because my two eldest are home from school and she hasn't seen them since they were tiny)! Everything fine except she thinks the baby is in the back to back position. We're both hoping he squirms round - SO DO NOT TELL ME YOUR BACK-TO-BACK STORIES PLEASE!!!

Have eaten raw carrots, croissant, apple, cottage cheese & salad, more raw carrots. Have yet to eat dinner - I think it'll be steak & daupinoise & spinach. Better go and get the pans out - I didn't realise the time!

Lots of water. Face & hands and body scrub & lotion. I did get an early night but had insomnia again. And not much in the way of exercise.

Iota · 11/04/2008 19:53

I am on my second glass of wine and have stuffed myself silly with chicken risotto for 2 when there is only one of me tonight.

I am so far off piste that I am in the Everglades.

See you back at bootcamp when the kids are in school

WideWebWitch · 11/04/2008 20:54

pmsl at extra from Star Trek, wot, Star Trek and the attack of the Bosoms?

L&S, nice to see you, sympathy on spots but yep, no one's looking at you anyway

Moonshine, glad I'm not only one in tights so as not to offend

Marina, I OFTEN look inthe mirror now and think oh no, venus of fking willenfkingdorf, I look exactly like that...

Iota, hmm, I think you are a bystander.

Although am not one to talk atm!
