I'm looking for inspiration. Thanks.

I work in a very casual office, so it is usually nice jeans or cargoes, t-shirt and light cardigan. With loafers, trainers or flat sandals.

I did buy a pair of capri/pedal pushers in black. I know most will say they are hopelessly outdated, but sometimes I ride my bike to work and they work for me when it is warm out. I don't wear skirts or dresses to work.

Rina66 · 28/05/2024 10:48

Loads of pedal pushers on ASOS @mdinbc so you're very in trend! I loved wearing them in the 80's with a frilly spandau style shirt!! I might try a pair with a broderie anglais shirt

Snippysocks · 28/05/2024 17:36

I can't link it, but I've bought a lovely navy maxi dress from Boden - sleeveless, deep V neck and tiered. I'm 5' 3 " and was a size 8 - 10 until flipping Long Covid stopped me walking. Now I have a stomach but this dress hides it perfectly. Will be able to dress it up or down, depending on the jewellery and shoes. Love it.
Any ideas for empire line Mother of the Bride dresses? Apparently, wearing my usual jeans isn't an option 🙃

KomproMatilda · 28/05/2024 17:55

What’s your budget, @Snippysocks?

Snippysocks · 28/05/2024 18:03

Budget is up to £300 but would prefer nearer 250. I don't want the usual dress and jacket - thinking of a high waisted / empire line dresss and a pashmina. I suit Spring colours - particularly shades of orange and yellow, but not fixated on that. I have red / brown hair but not that lovely translucent skin that sometimes goes with it. Also - I'm 72 .......

@Rina66 That's bringing back a memory! That was me too back in the 80's topped off with a dubious perm.😂

I bought a pair of pedal pushers recently

They work really well as trousers on my short legs😂

And there is me at the other end of the £ scale pretty happy with my Primark buys on Friday! 64 years old 5rt 4 ins size 20. I bought what looks like a mahoosive pair of white shorts that I know will not be at all baggy! Several t shirts and a black hoodie. The hoodie I bought as I had no coat that day (in launderette) and it was a bit chilly! The rest is in hope I get a holiday this year!!!

Cantonet · 29/05/2024 11:48

I'll join you @Deathraystare with my M&S buys. A Stripy shirt in seersucker that is a wonderful shape for 5 ft 3 me. It's a blouson style with brilliant sleeves and isn't too long.

Two knitted cotton waistcoats in ecru, nutmeg I wear open over a white vest top as pictured.

@Deathraystare the most effusive outfit compliments I’ve received from a stranger in the past couple of years came when I was wearing black Primark joggers. (Admittedly with a very nice wool jacket and some clumpy white sandals.) From a well dressed French man, who went into gratifying detail about what I was wearing.

Snippysocks · 29/05/2024 18:41

Thanks for looking for me @KomproMatilda ! But the high necks really don't suit me. I've got a squidgy little neck and it looks better in scooped necks.

usernother · 29/05/2024 20:38

I've just bought this very, very cheap dress from TikTok and i absolutely love it. It's really flattering.

I love that dress @usernother but even though I'm a size 10, it would cling to my mum tum!

Summertimer · 30/05/2024 09:44

I bought this from Roman https://www.roman.co.uk/abstract-print-drawcord-midi-dress-14245708
And these from Deichman

I’ve also been looking to the back of the wardrobe as quite a lot of styles have come back in and I have my own vintage picks. Quilted jacket, denim dress, various blazers, cardigans and scarf (as highlighted by Jess Cartner Morley in Guardian)

I’ve been contemplating M and S wide leg cargo, carpenter jeans but think I will stick with existing wide leg jeans for now.

I’m considering reviving a long denim skirt as they are all over the shops at the mo. I bought a Boden jacket from a charity shop. It has 3/4 sleeves and huge spots, I might tone it down with jeans and T shirt

I've got a mum (granny) tum with an overhang and this disguises it a bit. Honest.

I second that, including the colour.

I have pull on Primark trainers that everyone thinks are Sketchers, they are brilliant and lightweight and have lasted several summers

DuckEggy · 30/05/2024 11:55

So much green this year - I look ill if I wear green. My finances will be good this year!

Backtothepalmtrees · 30/05/2024 13:00

I’m early 60s bought this gorgeous blouse from Seasalt - looks boring on the hangar but worn like the pic it looks great and lovely soft material

I can't do either I'm afraid. I presume I can't send you a message because I just use the MN app and I can't find out how to provide a link from TikTok. But if you go to TikTok and do a search for striped dress tie waist you'll find lots of them, with different colour choices and some without stripes.

Snippysocks · 30/05/2024 22:22

@Shetlands
Thank you so much for your help. I love the dresses you suggested and will be paying Phase Eight a visit next week!
