I have just bought that T-shirt @usernother. The M and S I went into didn't have the twist top vest though.

I love the tshirt. So easy to wear. I've worn it loads of times already. I had to order the twist top online and do a click and collect.

58, so near your age, OP. After years of not being interested in jeans, I have bought a pair from Zara, https://www.zara.com/uk/en/trf-cropped-flare-high-waist-jeans-p04806018.html?v1=352754146

to go with an oversized stripe shirt, also from Zara. https://www.zara.com/uk/en/oversize-striped-oxford-shirt-p02298051.html

I will wear both items with other things, but I'm basically copying a look from a 'Parisian' YouTube channel. You do a French tuck with the huge shirt, you flounce about in your chunky sandals and your raffia bag and shades, yada yada.

Have also bought, from Massimo Dutti, a pair of white linen trousers and the same pair in black. Also a cream cotton knit floppy, boat-neck jumper. Massimo Dutti have an awesome collection currently, but a shit website, so sorry, can't load the pics.

Might be tempted by another pair of jeans, high-waist, straight leg, blue wash. I need a belt (Cos has the one I like), maybe a T-shirt or two, and I'm tempted by a Roxane Baines dress.

iwantavuvezela · 12/05/2024 22:57

love that dress @JaceLancs - I bought an orange dress last summer , that style and wore it constantly. might look at getting this in blue. would you say its true to size?

JaceLancs · 13/05/2024 00:13

@iwantavuvezela
yes I would say true to size - it’s very slightly a line so good if you are pear shaped

Sorrynotsorry22 · 13/05/2024 09:07

Love all the clothes, I have so many from previous years that I just keep them ! 😄 I like classic basics and I've started adding fun bits from Vinted

I am steeling myself to deal with the size 8 clothes I don't currently fit. I am a size 10 now and I just don't know if it's worth it eating less and exercising more to get back to a size 8. I mentioned it to a similarly aged colleague about losing the 5 pounds and she said, "But Spinning, think what it will do to your face?" Or is this a cop out and the thin end of the wedge? I was effortlessly slim right up to my late fifties.

As someone with a narrow torso that shows every extra kilo, I would say, yes, it absolutely is worth dealing with the five pounds while it is still just five pounds. And I don't buy clothes on impulse, and I buy them to last. So not being able to wear something I love because I didn't tackle the kilo or two in good time is galling! I did get shot of a good 7 kilos a few years back, and the pleasure of feeling and looking nice in some old friends was great!

Some things that used to be lovely just don't feel right any more, no matter what I weigh - my DVF wrap dresses aren't quite the thing - too short, I think, although I might wear one over my new linen trousers. So I don't want to limit my options even further!

Ditto. Lovely and supportive, and no mention of the f word that I see so often on S and B.

eggplant16 · 13/05/2024 10:13

I've never been effortlessly slim. Perhaps pre puberty. After that, the chest and bum expanded dramatically.50 years of hating myself.
Enough is enough.

thisoldcity · 13/05/2024 10:37

I shop on Vinted mainly, so no photos I'm afraid. I've recently bought a couple of shirt dresses, sort of midi length - one soft blue with short sleeves and one khaki sleeveless. I've also bought a Seasalt midi retro patterned shirt dress, sleeveless. I don't know why I've suddenly gone for shirt dresses, but I like the way they are sort of casual and not trying too hard I think. All with belts. I'll be wearing them with Stan Smith white trainers or Timblerland chunky sandals.

Cantonet · 13/05/2024 13:58

Rather prosaically I've just purchased two pima cotton full length slips from Hanro & Intimissi for wearing under Kaftan type dresses i bought last year. I'm afraid they're not very glamorous or inspiring but very useful. To wear underneath last years Zara Saffron kaftan as theirs is too tight.
Plus a nude slip to wear underneath a peach Zara dress & a blue linen kaftan i bought off ebay for last years Malaysian holiday.Sadly I didnt get the wear from these items last year, as i didn't have the right underpinnings. Plus for some reason they seem to sell out early in the season.

Bignanna · 13/05/2024 15:50

Not brave enough to wear sleeveless dresses or show my knees!

talkingdeadscot · 13/05/2024 16:51

@Shetlands What's the sizing like for Nomads, do you know? Thanks

Everything I've had in the past has been the size I was expecting so I haven't had any problems with sizing. I've never bought trousers from them though so I don't know about those. My purchases have always been tops, usually in their sales.

There are some great suggestions on this thread many thanks x

Yalta · 14/05/2024 13:23

I have all bar given up trying to find anything to fit me as being a size 14 seems to indicate I am tall instead of very short.

i need a dress length of 94/95 cm and all i see is things that are 110cm /130cm Most dresses just trail on the floor or flap around my ankles

Model heights at 5ft 9” with a dress that is mid calf length is not realistically something that I would be able to wear and the petite range is more about being short and slim.

I now shop in the men’s wear department as they cater for us who have short legs

Dresses that fit are a distant memory

KomproMatilda · 14/05/2024 14:46

Are you never able to have dresses altered to fit - either in the body length or at the hem, @Yalta?

Witchgreen6 · 14/05/2024 15:04

@Yalta have a look at above, not expensive and they offer a free shortening service .

How do knee length petite dresses hang on you? Would they be closer to mid calf on you? Some of them have a dress length of 92 - 97cm.

Elodie9 · 14/05/2024 16:18

Have you tried Weird fish dresses @Yalta , they are knee length but they might be ok as sort of mid length for you.
I was thinking of the Orlando or Tallahasse style maybe, They are really easy to wear.

Goldengamer · 14/05/2024 17:54

I am 60 and actually tried this on . It was lovely but I didn’t end up buying it . I had already bought quite a lot in there , they’ve got some lovely stuff

I'm 5'7" and their dresses are above the knee on me.
