Is this dress too tight ?

I'm going on holiday soon and had no clothes for sunshine holidays
I've bought this dress but not sure if it's too tight
I wouldn't wear it in the uk as I would feel too self conscious
Does it look okay ?
I'm nearly 40 and not sure if it's too young as it's from Zara

Yes, I would say you need a size up unless the gathering on the side is a ruched part of the dress design.

I've pulled it up so it's not as long as it's meant to be slightly longer

You could argue that it fits perfectly, but if I try on something that tight I at least try the next size up to see if it looks and feels better. And it matters more for hot weather, you don’t want to be a sweaty mess because there’s no room for air to get in.

@LoobyDop yeah I tried on the next size up but it was baggy on the armpit (if that makes sense )

I thought it was ruched- if not, definitely size up.

If I pull it down to correct length the bits that look ruched aren't there
I've just pulled it up but it then creates the creases

You look great in it - and holiday is a nice chance to try things you wouldn’t at home.

It's lovely on you but my immediate thoughts went to sweating!! I couldn't wear a clingy dress like that on hols because I know I would sweat in it and ruin the whole look!

I think it looks fine for evening wear.

But I find that if I bring any clothes on holiday that I’m not 100% comfortable in I just do not wear them.

If you are uncomfortable then size up if it’s an option. I think it’s looks okay.

If you feel self-conscious enough to ask here, will you be comfortable enough to wear it? I think you look great, but it comes down to how you genuinely feel.

Yes, I think that's too tight, although you're definitely not too old for the dress if it fitted. I wouldn't buy something just to wear on holiday though, if you don't feel good enough in it to wear it at home don't keep it.

My general rule is if I don't love it new, that's going to get worse, not better.

You look amazing! It's a fitted dress - if I had a figure like yours I would LIVE in dresses like that.. sadly I look like a big bag of spuds!!!!

Looser unstructured cotton/linen dresses are much more comfortable in hot climates, and allow room to move after a big meal and drinks too.

I think you look great in it! I think it's nice for holiday. Might be a bit hot as it is figure hugging though... I tend to go for wafty things if going somewhere hot

Also, you could get the size up and have it taken in? Then you might get more use out of it
