I don't think the VB eyeliner is that special

Have I really missed the point? I was excited to use it - got the ash grey - and it's... a perfectly fine, standard eye pencil with nothing at all to write home about. In fact, I think it blunts and smudges a bit too much - it doesn't 'hold' the sleek eyeline I start with so I have to smudge.

Should I be doing something specific to get the benefit or it that it?

(Am already laughing at my earnest tone above - I realise it's just an eyeliner; I wasn't expecting multiple orgasms or a lottery win!)

Agreed. I don’t know what I thought would happen…. my technique would magically become less shit?

I don’t know…
but I felt very anhedonic post application 😑

custardlover · 15/01/2024 22:19

Excellent use of the word anhedonic which I had to look up.

Ok well that makes me feel better, if somewhat more foolish too, thank you!

(What on earth was I expecting?!?)

Yes! I ordered this and was so excited to use it and I find it just smudges, so much so that it looks like I've fallen asleep with make up on and just woke up looking a mess!

dothehokeycokey · 15/01/2024 22:24

I ordered two of these.

Exactly the same thoughts as above.

No definitive line and smudges so badly I've got pandas eyes by lunchtime.

My £6 Avon glimmerstick is by far better.

Disappointed

paisley256 · 15/01/2024 22:27

Massively out of my price range but I have looked and longed for one of these, glad I'm not missing anything.

custardlover · 15/01/2024 22:28

The marketing is very effective!

It is isn't it.

IWishIWasABaller · 15/01/2024 22:38

I'm glad to hear this as I've been so tempted lately and I couldn't justify paying that much for one pencil especially after the last time I shelled out for Charlotte Tilbury eye pencil and it's crap. I now buy mine from Kiko and I think they are brilliant. Great choice of colours and good sales/offers too

Fraaahnces · 15/01/2024 22:44

I am so very pleased to read this. My technique is also crap and my peepers are aging rapidly, which doesn’t help. I like to be able to smudge a bit, but want it to stay put. I’m glad I didn’t waste a bajillion Aussie $ to get an eyeline sent across the world. I quite like the Flower Beauty wind up ones. For that price my expectations are realistic, I guess. I was going to use a gift card and try a Charlotte Tilbury one but if they’re crap as well, I’m happy to give that pseudo-camp name-dropper a swerve too.

TheChosenTwo · 15/01/2024 22:48

I have said the same about these on here before but I think they’re shit 😂 too wet and slimy, smudges badly not in a controlled way but in a way that makes you look like you’ve slept in your makeup. And doesn’t fucking sharpen, even with the stupid sharpener that you pay extra for. Think they’re just way too soft. Someone advised putting in the fridge before sharpening but honestly feel I shouldn’t have to do that with expensive pencils and they just need to make it properly in the first place. I donated mine to my sister and she said the kids had used them as watercolour pencils 🫣 lesson very much learnt!

I love mine. It does take a bit of practice but I use my liners everyday. I like that you can easily build your own the look.

So interested in what you had to practise - what do you do now to make it good?

Same here! I like a bit of a smudgy eyeliner but this ends up all over the place. I use an eye make up primer to hold eye make up in place as have oily lids, usually works well but it made no difference with this smudgy mess. Expensive mistake !

lto2019 · 15/01/2024 23:08

I love them. I wear liner every day and have tried almost all brands over time and these are by far my favourite - apart from the price.

MzHz · 15/01/2024 23:13

I’m grudgingly agreeing. I was looking for an alternative to By Terry- and I LOVE this brand, but colours limited unlike VB.

I got the smoky quartz (?) and a forest green - I’ll use them up but won’t buy again I don’t think. The don’t blend as well as they show in the video, perhaps they need to be heated up a bit?

Other disappointing stuff…i bought a Charlotte Tillsbury lip gloss at the airport over the summer, god it tastes/smells revolting. I’ll use it for work calls and stuff when I’m not that bothered. Never. Again.

I also bought a beautiful terracotta like lip gloss from Gucci. Divine.

by Terry smells amazing, like roses and everything I’ve ever bought from them is (expensive) but amazing- I got a makeup tutorial through their site and she gave me a discount code, so that is slightly less painful a purchase

sleeponthesofa · 15/01/2024 23:26

I absolutely love it!! I have the brown one and I think it's the best I've ever had! I hate spending money on cosmetics and never opt for high end brands but this was definitely worth it for me. BUT....it's very fragile...and i hate that I have to sharpen it all the time as it finishes super fast!
But I love the colour and am searching for a VB dupe eyeliner!

Benvolio · 16/01/2024 03:02

Another vote for the Koko ones mentioned above. I usually use number 6, a cool dark black-brown but love many of the other colours. I get them on Amazon

Benvolio · 16/01/2024 03:03

Kiko

Ndd135632 · 16/01/2024 03:09

I got the VB eyeshadow in honey. Also super excited - great advertising. It’s average. Application and colour. Much prefer the hourglass metallic eyeshadows. And got the VB mascara. Great packaging but again average.

321user123 · 16/01/2024 03:39

im hesitating… but what’s VB?

TigerJoy · 16/01/2024 03:46

I've heard the same from friends.

I swear by Kiko.

Top tip for eyeliner - top it with a light dusting of eyeshadow (in the same shade). Will fix it in place for the day. I use a thin angled brush and just dab it on.

tigerrabbit · 16/01/2024 03:49

Glad it’s not just me! I looked like Alice Cooper as it’s smudged so much. I’ve found the Rimmel Scandal-eyes for about £4 a lot better! It’s similar to Avon Glimmersticks
