I don't think the VB eyeliner is that special

Have I really missed the point? I was excited to use it - got the ash grey - and it's... a perfectly fine, standard eye pencil with nothing at all to write home about. In fact, I think it blunts and smudges a bit too much - it doesn't 'hold' the sleek eyeline I start with so I have to smudge.

Should I be doing something specific to get the benefit or it that it?

Avon is no longer in Australia or I would do the same. Someone upthread said ByTerry is good?

MzHz · 16/01/2024 13:34

By Terry is good, but expensive. it does what it says it will do and does smudge/stay in place etc. the face cream is just astounding. everything smells amazing, the lip gloss 'tastes' good too iykwim.

I do feel a lot of Charlotte tilbury stuff doesn't live up to the hype though. Some stuff is good, but others feel like much cheaper products in luxe packaging.

Totally agree. Got the blusher and it's completely average- in fact Rimmel is better. And the middle circle of colour fell out after only a week or two. The lipstick is shit and has no lasting power at all.
Can't comment on VB eyeliner but I do agree that Kiko makeup is excellent quality for the price, particularly the lipsticks, eyeliner and mascara.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/01/2024 14:09

Another man’s meat and all that… I bloody love them! Have a few different colours and use them most days.

Orangeslemon · 16/01/2024 14:22

I find the Pixi endless silky eye pencils to be excellent and they come in a lot of colours. I’ve got my eye on the sage gold shade at the moment. There’s a lot on Vinted for quite cheap as I think they’ve been included in advent calendars/beauty boxes.

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 16/01/2024 14:28

I think they’re fine but nothing special and don't understand all the hype. And won’t be re-purchasing. (especially now it’s 33% more expensive than it was a year ago)

Urban Decay make superior eyeliners.

NowYouSee · 16/01/2024 14:30

I bought a bunch of stuff on Black Friday. Eyeliners are ok but wouldn’t buy again at that price point. I’m really liking the mascara though, it’s my new favourite.

notacooldad · 16/01/2024 14:36

I was really tempted to buy the VB liner last year but my friend said it was over rated.
I got an eyeliner tattoo done and it is marvellous for me.

NeedWineNow · 16/01/2024 14:41

I bought two before my holiday last year. Having used them now for a while I'd say they were ok but nothing special. I bought them primarily because you could use them on the waterline as well, but the staying power didn't seem good. I wouldn't repurchase.

I have got Avon Glimmersticks and they are great but can't be used on the waterline so on the back of a previous post in this thread I'm going to try the Kiko ones. We've got a Kiko store in the town near us so I'm going to have a look at the colours/texture before purchase.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 16/01/2024 14:44

I have 2 and like them for tightlining, which I do by applying to upper waterline.

I'm absolutely shite at eyeliner, it just drags my eyelid so I was hoping these would sort of melt and go on really gently to avoid that. I've tried, and still can't get a nice thin line tight to my lashes. Try to blend it out into a smudge with the tool and it goes from a line in the wrong place to completely disappeared with nothing in between.

So please - anyone who actually gets a good, neat, result with it please please can you tell me your exact technique, assuming I've never applied an eyeliner before, ever. Thank you! 😂

RedBoxWithABow · 16/01/2024 14:51

I love them but it took me a while to figure out that for them to stay put (either as a tight line or smudged) I needed to address the oiliness of my hooded eyes. I resolved that by using UD eye primer.

lindyloo57 · 16/01/2024 15:00

Also glad I didn't buy, my best one for staying power, is called goddess pencil then it says eye of horus, I got it online I think I was on Instagram at the time, its great.

MuffinCoffee · 16/01/2024 15:01

I had a look it at selfridges and didn't find it great. It didn't stay on my hand and was smudging easily. They do have good colors but didn't feel worth that price.
I much prefer urban decay for colors and for black I prefer Mac kohl.

lindyloo57 · 16/01/2024 15:02

I've just Googled it , its from beauty and the goddess

candlelog · 16/01/2024 08:35

And I do heat it up, either on back of hand or hair dryer.
The VB contour stick is amazing.

ooh is it - I love the eyeliners and was looking at the contour stick next.

Fraaahnces · 24/01/2024 08:04

I just googled Eye of Horus eyeliners and discovered that they’re Australian… Who knew??? (Going hunting for stockists now!)

Onand · 24/01/2024 08:07

I think it’s an excellent product and quite reasonably priced. You do need to have good technique to get the best from it.

I'm not sure it could be classed as reasonably priced!

Thanks for the tip about Vinted, just bought a Pixi one to try (£3)

SeriousFaffing · 15/01/2024 23:12

@IWishIWasABaller Thanks for the Kiko tip! Look at these colours, exactly the sort of thing I’ve been looking for 😍 https://www.kikocosmetics.com/en-gb/make-up/eyes/eyeliners/Lasting-Precision-Automatic-Eyeliner-And-Kh%C3%B4l/p-KM00303025

I absolutely love these, they stay put all day and you can smudge on application to get a less linear look, which also stays put!

Somepeoplearesnippy · 24/01/2024 10:47

I went mad on these last year because I loved the colours especially the metallic ones. Now the novelty has worn off I won't be replacing them. As PP have said they are too soft and smudgy and it's impossible to get a good point on them. They also wear down very quickly which for something so expensive seems like a rip off.

I will continue to use them until they run out (which won't take long) and then I'll be back to Kiko and Avon. Not quite such glamorous colours but much more usable.

ACatNamedVirtue · 24/01/2024 11:32

Maybe they vary between colours because I have the Olive VB pencil and it stays on really well all day.

I love it, (thankfully with that price tag!) and would definitely get more when this runs out. Might have to stick to the olive though if the others are less reliable.

baubletits · 24/01/2024 15:44

Agree, they are great if you want a really smokey, soft line, but you can't achieve a fine, harsher line at all in my opinion. Plus I have to constantly sharpen them, and the lid falls off one of them which means it gets damaged and I have to sharpen MORE.

I like the luxury feel of them to physically hold but £30 for one that my Rimmel eyeliner can also do? Not for me.

SpringPen · 16/01/2024 08:52

Ooh these were on my to buy list next month but I shan't bother now! Off to look at the Avon Glimmerstick...

If you like testing things before buying, I think some larger Superdrugs are now selling Avon makeup as I saw a tiny little stand in our huge local Superdrug. I was tempted to stop and have a test of the glimmer sticks as I've seen them mentioned so much on Mumsnet, but my daughter's had a timer of for me to be back in the car so I couldn't 😤😂

MyTeethLookShit · 24/01/2024 16:29

OMG I agree! And don't get me started on Vast Lash mascara by VB, it is absolutely pants.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2024 12:26

My Pixi liner arrived, so far so good on my super sensitive eyes. It's like butter goes on really easily. Not sure about it lasting yet as only been on a few hours. Really hoping it'll be ok as they have some lovely colours.
