Do you carry it in a sassy expensive tote or messenger style bag or a backpack?

I have a cheap laptop backpack from Amazon that has a front pocket for your lunch.

IKEA has a suprisingly nice range of (laptop) backpacks

TwinklingLightsEverywhere · 22/12/2023 09:20

Those who use backpacks, do you also carry a handbag? I take my bag to the loo, lunch, lunchtime shopping, etc and would feel a bit daft with a nearly empty backpack during the day.

I either ram everything into an overflowing tote so that I can use the bag normally once all the crap is out if it during the day. Or I take my handbag and carry the laptop in one of those folio cases with a handle which is only big enough for the laptop and charger.

no. I take my phone (on a cord) with contactless payment & keys/cards in my coat pockets.
if I need to nip to the shop I take a folded bag with me.

No I either just take my card wallet in my pocket or my backpack to lunch if I want to take my water bottle or go shopping. I don’t take anything to the loo, if I need sanpro I put it in my pocket.

I've got a little tiny bag - I think it was Lululemon - just big enough for phone, AirPods, hand gel, moisturiser, tampons, ID pass etc. Keeps it all within hands reach while commuting, and easy to pick up and take to the toilet. Plus our building is so big I tend to carry it to meetings - laptop in one hand, that over my shoulder for the bits and pieces. Very helpful !

I didn't used to, thinking I wanted everything in my rucksack and a pocket for everything, but this is working much better!

BarbaraofSeville · 22/12/2023 09:30

I generally put things in my coat pockets. I purposefully picked a coat with proper zip up pockets for this reason.

For my laptop, I have a Doughnut Macaroon and also a Bombata laptop case. It's not leather but it's nice enough and I've had it years.

If I'm driving to the office, I use the laptop case, but if I'm going somewhere overnight or on public transport for the day, I use the backpack.

I did want a Roka but chose the Doughnut instead after far too much deliberation. I rejected a Kankan because I wanted internal pockets and lining so it would feel like decent quality. I couldn't bring myself to pay ÂŁ100 for something so basic.

Find the perfect computer bag - we've got them all! Pick from glossy, crocodile or denim textures and pair with your favourite case.

I have a little pouch for my tampons, it's actually a mini make up bag but fits in my pocket. I can't be taking a massive tote to the loo every time. I just take my purse/phone if I go out at lunchtime. I don't actually need my handbag so may try without it in the new year.

I have a beautiful leather osprey handbag. I love it and use it daily

I’ve just bought one as I start a new job in January. :)

DoYouAgree · 22/12/2023 11:29

A tote - I just can't bring myself to wear a backpack for anything other than a hike.

AttillaThePlum · 22/12/2023 11:34

@VelvetVoice I have that Uniqlo bag but use it for overnights when I am going by public transport. It’s not bad, but the straps slip.

I use a backpack for my laptop which is my handbag / work bag even when I’m not carrying it. Best ones are men’s Paul Smith, from the outlet store or sample sales - lots of internal pockets and a built in laptop space.

TallulahBetty · 22/12/2023 15:51

I have this which fits everything in - work stuff, lunch, purse etc. Cannot bear having so many bags, but I don't travel light, so needed something generous.

MATEIN Travel Laptop Backpack, Work Bag Lightweight Laptop Bag with USB Charging Port, Anti Theft Business Backpack, Water Resistant School Rucksack Gifts for Men and Women, Fits 15.6 Inch Laptop-Grey : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Thanks
Is it roomy?

I ordered as my commute is one bus ride away and I only go once a month

I like it that it is 2 styles in 1

I used a cross body overnight bag so I could carry my lunch and handbag too. I'm forever searching for a decent bag for work. I dislike back packs... I'm not a schoolgirl! I also have big boobs so look ridiculous with a back pack.

There's a huge gap in the market for a decent bag that can carry a laptop lunch and handbag items.

BiblicallyAccurateAngel · 21/12/2023 08:48

We were given standard laptop bags, which scream "I've got a laptop, mug me!".

So were we. It's a great, comfortable backpack with a big bright company logo for all to see.

This is ridiculous given what we do. A sophisticated mugger who took both my laptop and phone could get into some very troubling places. So I use a scruffy canvas sling bag instead.

Nat6999 · 23/10/2024 04:00

My ds has a laptop trolley case for university. He can fit his 17" laptop & cables, pencil case, water bottle & insulated mug, notebooks & any books he needs in it.

TinselTarTars · 23/10/2024 05:57

All saints knitted tote for office, for local meetings a tan leather laptop sleeve style case.

KatherineParrIII · 23/10/2024 06:09

I've got all sorts of bags I use from a Mulberry tote, Tusting tote (very heavy), Timbuktu tote, and an Ortleib backpack. Depends how I'm travelling and what is at the other end.

The most practical and comfortable is definitely the Ortleib backpack.

Whatineed · 23/10/2024 06:38

I have a brown leather backpack from Fossil which has a separate section for a laptop, mobile and a handy zip pocket on the side for my work pass/car keys.

HaleyBrookeandPeyton · 23/10/2024 07:09

A proper fancy laptop backpack. I hate feeling weighed down by a tote and want my hands free on my 30 ministry walk into work

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 23/10/2024 07:50

I don’t carry a laptop often - I have one at home and one at work - but I have a little wheelie case for times when I need to. It fits laptop, notebook and papers and I can fit enough clothes in for an overnight too.

I used a Knomo backpack when I was working (can't remember if it was the Beaufort or Beauchamp without checking). I tried at the start by using a tote bag but found it was pulling heavy on one shoulder so changed to a backpack for my laptop and a crossbody bag for purse, keys, phone etc.

I tried out lots but the Knomo was the most comfortable for me as I was using it several times a week.
