Do you carry it in a sassy expensive tote or messenger style bag or a backpack?

A tatty back pack that does not scream “mug me”!

featheryfancy · 21/12/2023 07:33

I have a Cambridge satchel co leather bag. Got it in the Boxing Day sale a few years ago

I can't do backpacks. I never have been able to. I'm not 15. Sorry.

When I was 15 I used a tote bag for school in the classic impractical way of the teenager and it’s only now that I’m an adult that I use a backpack!

Darhon · 21/12/2023 08:27

Backpack. I’ve got loads of other crap to carry too and often commit on train or walk between sites, so it’s just the best option. If I drove in, parked near my office and then stayed their all day, I’d not need the backpack

BiblicallyAccurateAngel · 21/12/2023 08:41

Backpack due to long walk on my commute.

TheDandyLion · 21/12/2023 08:42

My old faithful Eastpak backpack that I've had since secondary school. I'm testing its 25yr guarentee.

Not at all stylish and I want something new but it does the job for now.

SaltyGod · 21/12/2023 08:45

Leather tote bag as my commute is mostly in the car and laptop isn’t heavy

CattingAbout · 21/12/2023 08:45

Laptop backpack that fits my lunch as well. Is not the smallest or smartest but everything fits in it, so still looks better than carrying 2-3 different things!

A backpack provided by my employer.

As it should be.
We were provided laptops, but nothing to carry them in. I am using DD’s old school bag… so this is a useful thread for when I actually have some money!

We were given standard laptop bags, which scream "I've got a laptop, mug me!".

Backpack.
handbags are weekend and high holidays only now.

i have too many expensive ones and don’t want them trashed

its also why dior are able to sell that garbage ÂŁ1 shopper of theirs, as its eases Waitrose jute shopper it can withstand the abuse and weight of a thinkpad.

dgirluk · 21/12/2023 08:51

Backpack here too - not stylish or sexy because I can't find one which is comfortable, big enough, with padded straps and a non-sweaty (as much as they can be) back, which is also nice looking. After any recommendations !

I always take it off when I get on the train/tube because I don't want to mistakenly bash anybody and there's not space when you're all squished in, so I put it between my feet.

Fits my lunch, breakfast, a drink, laptop, iPad, etc. etc. and keeps my hands free for tickets/tapping in.

I have started carrying a tiny over the shoulder bag which just fits my phone and glasses and ID badge in, plus hand gel, moisturiser and some tampons. Just because sometimes I use a different bag for work and can't be bothered to transfer stuff around. Also keeps my phone at hand rather than on my back which is handy.

@Delphigirl I totally agree with you. I don't like backpacks. They're a real faff on public transport. People constantly having to take them on and off. I'd also be worried about pick pockets when squashed on a train. And I hate it when people turn around with their backpacks on and whack me in the face on public transport.

In top of all that I've got big boobs so a backpack just looks terrible on me 🤣

I usually use an across the body laptop bag but then have to carry a handbag too. So I'm hands free and don't have to take it off to sit down public transport but I'm juggling two bags. There is a huge gap in the market for a decent handbag to carry a laptop that doesn't cost a fortune.

I hate backpacks for the same reasons. They also hurt my neck to the extent I swapped my hiking rucksack for a hiking bum bag.

I use the cross body bag that work supplied but the zip is on its last legs and if I request a replacement they will give me a backpack. I'm following for recommendations for a new bag.

VelvetVoice · 21/12/2023 08:52

I’m still looking for the perfect backpack to go to work so I will be reading the thread later and hopefully get something fab on sale.

I’d love to have a beautiful tote but it is not practical on public transport and rainy days, but if I drove to work I would not use a backpack

I’m currently use a black kiepling, very roomy and comfortable, but I bought it for my daughter a few years ago when she was in Y6 :o
I feel awful wearing it:(

RosesAndHellebores · 21/12/2023 08:53

A backpack/rucksack. It's branded but who knows the make. I bought it from TK Max in about 2018. Laptop, note pad, general papers old toot that needs clearing out.

It goes from house to car, car to office and occasionally building to building on a large ish site. I use a nice bag for my personal stuff.

Hoping it lasts another 21 months until I retire.

greenacrylicpaint · 21/12/2023 08:53

laptop backpack.
just too heavy to carry over shoulder for more than a few minutes.

nutsnutspistachionuts · 21/12/2023 08:56

Sandqvist Hege can fit small shit work laptop, the Macbook Air I actually like to do my work on, a change of clothes/pyjamas/wash bag, notebooks, and both chargers. I hate carrying all that, but it can.

horseymum · 21/12/2023 08:58

Back pack, don't damage your neck/ shoulders because something looks better.

Pinko1 · 21/12/2023 08:58

I used to use an old baby changing bag actually (a fancy one). Upgraded to a neoprene style backpack and it looks amazing now. Backpacks feel less dated though im not cool enough to get canvas like my colleagues.

I use this and I love it.

Faceplantagain · 21/12/2023 08:59

Leather backpack - I think it came from John Lewis's mens range. I also have a very small cross-body bag which fits phone/debit card and not much else, so I don't have to be getting stuff in and out of the backpack when commuting.

WingBingo · 21/12/2023 08:59

I have a DR Martens backpack.

I love it. Hard wearing, functional and a bit stylish.

Orcadianrythyms · 21/12/2023 09:01

On a recommendation from here, I bought a Naledi Copenhagen Alex bag - it’s a tote that can be cross body. It’s amazing quality and has been in daily use and apart from a little wear on the leather feet looks exactly the same as when I got it.
Holds laptop, notepads and all handbag crap. I did put a liner in it to avoid lipstick or pen disasters.

A Roka backpack in Barbie pink Grin I commute by train and walking and a backpack is just more practical than a tote bag - I think form should follow function. It is only a medium Roka but it fits all my other stuff so I have my hands free and can march to my office at a swinging pace. I would say the majority of commuters I see use some sort of backpack.

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/12/2023 09:08

My work gave me a back pack, but I invested in a trolley case with wheels as I have a bad back. Work would have given me a trolley if I had asked but I had already got the one I use and it’s a nice one. I can get everything in it and no stress on my back.
