Do you carry it in a sassy expensive tote or messenger style bag or a backpack?

Osprey backpack. Very functional. Not stylish but I love it

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/12/2023 09:13

@Dipsomaniax neither would most!

MahShinyShoes · 21/12/2023 09:18

I used to carry a Radley leather handbag/tote (a nice smart one, not one with frollocking dogs).

But when I changed jobs, my new work gave me a practical laptop rucksack & I must admit it's the best thing ever from a comfort POV.

I will switch between the two, depending whether I want to look smart or whether practicality is more important.

Gcsunnyside23 · 21/12/2023 09:28

I use a backpack that's padded

Smindento · 21/12/2023 09:30

A very boring backpack that’s padded and has hip support, years of one strap bags and just computer usage in general means I need all the shoulder and hip support for my poor back!

IdealisticCynic · 21/12/2023 09:41

Another Knomo backpack user. Has been my best purchase in years!

GatherlyGal · 21/12/2023 10:09

Me too re Knomo backpack. I used to hate backpacks but really hurt my back hoiking a laptop around in a shoulder back. Got a Knomo and have now love it.

I can't do backpacks. I never have been able to. I'm not 15. Sorry.

I love that backpacks are no longer seen as childish or scruffy. Where I live, it was the Kanken trend that brought backpacks into the nsinsteam, so to speak. Personally I've always preferred them but now I can feel more stylist when I use them. Even the teen girls around use backpacks rather than tote bags, much better for their back / posture.

We were given standard laptop bags, which scream "I've got a laptop, mug me!".

Nobody gets mugged for laptops. They're bulky and not actually worth that much. Even an idiot can figure out that phones are much better.

DelilahBucket · 21/12/2023 10:40

Samsonite laptop backpack. I love it.

People have been mugged for less than a laptop in my city 🙄

I had a backpack for ages but always felt a bit like a teenager when using it (ironically, as would never have used a backpack when I was actually a teenager).
I did loads of research on laptop bags recently and ended up buying the Madewell Transport tote which I absolutely love. I feel a lot more professional carrying it around!

NotMeNoNo · 21/12/2023 14:09

I have a few bags: a slim leather briefcase for rare smart occasions, a neat backpack if I have a long way to walk and a messenger bag that clips on my bike, all have a proper laptop padded section though. It gives me the chills somehow seeing a laptop stuffed in a normal tote bag with rubbish all round it getting scratched.

There are loads of backpacks around that have a laptop section, Sports Direct have cheap ones.

FIL brought his new laptop over to our place for some help with it the other week in an old National Trust canvas shopping bag! Laptop case for Christmas.

qpdlurgak · 21/12/2023 14:11

Backpack. Anything else is impractical.

LadyoftheLavaLamp · 21/12/2023 16:39

I have a beautiful tan Russell and Bromley tote for ‘special occasions’

A brilliant US made gym/laptop l/travel bag for most of the time and always when travelling as it has a wheelie suitcase sleeve - this is the one 90% of the time

a Knomo backpack for when I’m walking a lot sans wheelie suitcase

idontlikealdi · 21/12/2023 16:41

Leather backpack from fossil. I love it. I have a crossbody bag for phone / keys doorpass etc for ease plus I don't like putting anything in the front pocket of my backpack when I'm on the tube.

Borth · 21/12/2023 20:25

Backpack. Practicality wins over style.

Pebbles16 · 21/12/2023 20:33

Knomo is very popular in our team. Comfortable, practical and smart

Thighdentitycrisis · 21/12/2023 21:59

A backpack from TkMaxx

youveturnedupwelldone · 21/12/2023 22:11

Backpack these days - I have a donut macaroon.

My old laptop was a lot lighter than my current one and I used to use a longchamp le pliage, but I decided I value my back and got a backpack instead!

I love the Macaroon as it's thoughtfully designed and has lots of great pockets inside, and it's more than big enough for all my crap. It's also waterproof

JaceLancs · 21/12/2023 23:26

I have a lovely knomo lap top bag which has grab handles as well as a shoulder strap which can be lengthened to cross body
I prefer a separate hand bag - currently using a black pebble leather coach bag

ImShivRoy · 22/12/2023 06:33

LK Bennett tote for me.

Username5678910 · 22/12/2023 06:51

Leather laptop bag. It looks nice and I don't need a separate handbag. It does have a cross body strap but it hurts my shoulders so I just use the grab handles.

Most of the time I'm only going from car to office so I use a separate shoulder bag for my lunch etc. If I'm going into London though I just use the one bag.

3Tunes · 22/12/2023 07:04

Mia Tui backpack - it fits between my feet on the tube and is comfy to wear. I love the bright lining (so easy to find things) and the many internal pockets. I can use it as an overnight work trip bag if I pack carefully, too.
