Nail wraps

I’ve been seduced by ads for Lily and Fox nail wraps. I love the idea of pretty manicured nails. But I’m hard on my hands (young kids so lots of handwashing and cleaning) and I’m not sure if they can possibly as good as advertised

Has anyone tried them?

@TheFireflies with sally hansen insta dri do you get shrinkage? I'm tempted to try again. Or maybe get those fast drying nail polish drops.

No, I’ve not noticed shrinkage!

So I’m on my third pair of Holy Grail; the second set cured well, but had chipped by 5th day (the pattern meant it wasn’t too noticeable), and this current set I can really feel them lifting at the bases and 2 of them peeled off completely within an hour 🙄 so a mixed bag really…I’m sticking with them as I love the patterns and colours and it’s much cheaper, and hopefully better for my nails.

TheFireflies · 22/01/2024 20:37

I’ve only had one set peel, and it was my own fault. I now wipe the nails to prep them and give a really thin clear base coat prior to application and haven’t had those issues since. Are those the semi-cured that you’re using, I’ve not tried those.

roarrfeckingroar · 22/01/2024 21:09

How do you get them off?

No, just the regular ones, don’t know why I mentioned curing 🤦‍♀️😂 I meant to say they stuck down well. I’ll try a base coat next time.

@roarrfeckingroar I just put a heaped teaspoon of coconut oil in a bowl of hot water and soak them for a few minutes and then they peel off easily

I converted to wraps last year can’t see myself going back
I use Sally Hansen fast dry topcoat & can now do both bands in ten minutes.
just been using cheap wraps off Amazon. Look good and last at least a week (I am heavy on my hands)

GoodOldEmmaNess · 23/01/2024 07:36

Could any of you tell me whether nail wraps could be used on very severely bitten nails - to cover them and help me break the habit? My nails are bitten low, so there is an unnailed flesh section between the end of the nail and the end of the finger.
I know, it is disgusting. I have been trying all my life to kick the habit and can't.
If nail wraps wouldn't be the answer (or if you can't get wraps without nail art), is there something else ('gel'-style coverings?) that could cover such ravaged nails?
Apologies if this is too much of a thread hijack - perhaps I should start another, but there are so many informed people here

DontBeAPrickDarren · 23/01/2024 09:48

I don’t think they would adhere to skin - you can cut them to size so they certainly would cover a nail but not sure it would help break the habit!

GoodOldEmmaNess · 23/01/2024 11:35

Thanks, @DontBeAPrickDarren. Smile Ah well, back to the drawing board.

They’re so cheap though that you’ve nothing to lose by ordering a set and seeing how they might work for you

housekermit · 24/01/2024 15:12

Oh my gaaaad I love these, do you have a link please?

SpringMeadows · 24/01/2024 15:17

I recently started using these ones from Amazon. So far they've been on for two weeks and are still looking great. I put on a coat of clear polish every couple of days and that's it. I am so impressed. Warm them up before applying them (hair dryer, radiator, or - I guess - in the hot sun in summer) so they soften up a little and take the shape of your nail more easily. I love them!

Got my package from lily and fox today which was so cute and well presented. I even got a free pair to practise and a little origami fox.

I got mine from them too today. Can't fault the customer service! Have you tried them yet? I put a set on. At first I wasn't convinced, but I think they're growing on me.

No not yet. A few of mine broke recently so I'm waiting for a bit of growth first. What were you not convinced with, the colour, quality??

I think it's probably just my application - on a few of my fingers you can tell that they're stickers. Also I have short nails (have sensory issues with long nails) and they'd probably look better on long nails.

Medstudent12 · 28/01/2024 12:58

@ICantGetNoSheep such a shame, I assume by bases you mean by the cuticle? My top tips for this are:

Make sure excess cuticle removed from nail plate with cuticle remover, ensure that no part of the wrap even slightly overlaps with the skin and try to apply them at night so you can leave them overnight before getting them wet. Gives the best chance of sticking. Sometimes though you do get a duff set.

Medstudent12 · 28/01/2024 13:01

@GoodOldEmmaNess id get gels for a bit. Or shellac. Maybe say 4-6 weeks until they’ve grown out. Remove them very very carefully and then you could switch to wraps.

Medstudent12 · 28/01/2024 13:02

@ElliesMum16 i think some do look like stickers. I like solid colours or designs that look like they could have been painted on. Sometimes I think sellers don’t realise this. I want them to look like gel nails not stickers haha.

I've been really loving using my wraps from Nailsera on Etsy. I removed my second set last night (each lasts about a fortnight) and at least two to three nails on each hand are in quite bad condition, breaking at the edges and kind of splitting. They looked fine after i removed the first set so maybe the glue was harsher on the second or something? They're not all identical types of wrap. I'm a bit disappointed as i usually have pretty strong nails and I'll have to give them a break now for a while. Weirdly enough, the thumb and smallest finger nails are absolutely fine, it's the three in the middle!

StillRoping · 09/03/2024 10:39

@honeyfox Did you use a base coat?

I was really enjoying mine as well and have had to stop as my nails are in dreadful condition. I’ve been really gently prising them off and they are easy to remove so I’m not sure what the issue is.

Seems like they were too good to be true 😭

StillRoping · 09/03/2024 10:39

No, instructions were no base coat and use a top coat.

I think I've figured it out anyway. That last set I used weren't all identical wraps, there were 3 different designs which toned colour wise with each other. One design was on the relatively unaffected thumb and pinky nails, one on the first finger and a different style on the worst affected fingers. So it appears to be that certain types of the wraps maybe have stronger chemicals or adhesives in them.

Brackhurst · 09/03/2024 10:57

That sounds right. The ones I’ve got say to use a base coat, but then I’ve never found a base coat that’s kind to my weak nails anyway.
