Help with finding a gift for my wife

I had posted this in the Christmas thread, but wondered if I might get some help here? While my wife isn't hugely label driven, she does like nice things. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mumsnetters,

Me again with my annual thread looking for gift advice for my wife. In return, I will give top tips on male gifts (no we don't want cheap cycling gear. Yes we do want expensive hiking boots).

My wife (46, outdoorsy, dog loving) has had a rough few months with the passing of her father, so I'm keen to get her something special. Holidays are out as we have one booked in Feb. All I have to work with this year is that she seemingly loves everything from Wolf and Badger, likes Penhalligon's perfume and I have a note in my phone that says "Rosa's T Gloves" but no idea what it means. Only that I made a note of it when she mentioned them at some point...

Help!

So hard OP, the only fashiony thing I want is good warm leather gloves.

You'll only wreck them when you get into a snowball fight.

A few suggestions-

Toast double cotton pyjamas
Perfume sample set from Andy Tauer, Byredo or Mason Francis Kurkdjian
Stylist thermal outdoor trousers from Acai
Grooming bag from Guibert
Jewellery from Monica Vinader or Rachel Entwhistle
Dubarry country boots
Bath oil from Ren or Neom

Grape bag procured!

Lucky, lucky her, I hope she loves it.. I would love the Navy one please,!! 😂( its not on my actual list.as mine has bought me lovely bags before.. which I probably don't use enough)..

Ask her. Honestly, it's better than all this angsting. Everyone gets things they like and no-one has to stress.
Sure, it's lovely if your partner can magically buy you things to your exact taste, but it's too much pressure IMO and a bit rom-com fantasy.
Feel free to ignore if this is too Grinchy for you 😁

Perfect advice 👌

A beautiful notebook is always welcome. If in doubt, I always buy at least person one each year., always from Smythson.

Lots to choose from, including inspiration and ideas, living my best life and one with paw prints. There even one called make it happen (in which she can note all the things you can buy her next year, although that will deny us another glorious thread)!

Happy shopping OP!

A few nice things from Fortnum & Mason - the Turkish delight, a tea tin, maybe a jam or chutney. That will do me nicely

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 29/11/2024 14:31

Dubarry (more dog walky) or Fairfax & Favor boots?

Rocknrollstar · 29/11/2024 14:34

Personally I’d like a No & Gift Set from Boots - the larger the better.

Fortnum and Mason hamper

Well personally, the things I would buy myself are:

Glerups slippers
Cycling clothing - quality over quantity
Dog hair removing rubber brush for car
Fred Perry Harrington Jacket
A high quality white t shirt

If money is no object

A Wattbike
Various pairs of RedWing boots
An eye wateringly expensive Gravel Bike
Kite Surfing Lessons in Mauritius

Dubarry (more dog walky) or Fairfax & Favor boots?

I might quiz her on boots. I must have bought 20 pairs in the past with varying degrees of success.

I would like an electric bike- not going to get one though.
Have already bought my combined Birthday and Christmas present and given it to him to wrap

kerstina · 29/11/2024 15:51

I think the Fenwick beauty advent is still left if she is the type to like a luxury moisturiser or lipstick . It is £180

Newhere5 · 29/11/2024 13:32

Perfect advice 👌

I disagree. It's lovely to get a good gift that someone has really thought about, rather than "I can't be bothered to think, tell me what to buy".

CarmelaBrunella · 29/11/2024 16:34

Ignore the Grinches!
I love Wolf and Badger and buy a lot of my clothes from there. If she likes jumpers they have some great quirky ones.

Daftapath · 29/11/2024 16:47

Good to see you back op and I love the bag in grape.

Good jewellery is always appreciated here!

How about some artwork? Or a print made from a favourite photo?

Dp does a photobook every Christmas for me as a 'surprise'. It has a selection of photos from throughout the year of the things we have done. Not hugely 'classy', I know but it is very time consuming and lovely to have.

CarmelaBrunella · 29/11/2024 16:48

Artwork from a favourite photo is a great idea. My daughter did this from a beautiful photo she took in the Lake District.

ChannelFiveDrama · 29/11/2024 16:50

Get her a lovely pair of Rosa T gloves. They're very in.

This really made me laugh 😊

impressivelycunty · 29/11/2024 16:51

Does she use a paper diary? Smythson if so.
Birkenstock shearling slippers
Toast gloves/arm warmers or triangle wool scarf
Monica Vinader Delphi friendship bracelet (half price for Black Friday)
Seol & Gold stacking rings
Aesop hand cream in a jar
Jim Moir artwork (aka Vic Reeves) especially if she likes birds.

HarrietBond · 30/11/2024 09:37

What did you end up getting her last year, OP? After reading from the start I’d like to know!

The Penhaligon’s advent calendar is still available but it’s an eye-watering £425. They’ve been selling last year’s for £195 this autumn at outlets and may still have them in stock. They’ll post them out if you call and check.

Georgelassosthemoon · 30/11/2024 11:30

Good to see you back OP. I need to know what you bought last year and was it a success. I’ve asked DP for a silver bracelet from the Royal Mint made from recycled X-ray film.

In honesty, I can't really remember exactly what I got her apart from a ring she saw in a shop window when we were out, some Gloves (Not Rosa T) but I do remember that they were from Toast and cost too much.

Oh yeah - some horse riding vouchers too.

I'm about there this year. So far I have got:

The Kate Sheridan bag suggested on here.
Some Acai thermal trousers and a top
A pnuematic massage gun
A beauty gift set from Selfridges
Some Pajamas from Their Nibs

I might still get her some Helveit? perfume from Penhaligons. But it is currently sold out online so I will have to get it from an airport if I do.

And there's something else she has mentioned that I have now forgotten that is bugging me...

Does it have a 50 pence piece dangling off it?
