Help with finding a gift for my wife

I had posted this in the Christmas thread, but wondered if I might get some help here? While my wife isn't hugely label driven, she does like nice things. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mumsnetters,

Me again with my annual thread looking for gift advice for my wife. In return, I will give top tips on male gifts (no we don't want cheap cycling gear. Yes we do want expensive hiking boots).

My wife (46, outdoorsy, dog loving) has had a rough few months with the passing of her father, so I'm keen to get her something special. Holidays are out as we have one booked in Feb. All I have to work with this year is that she seemingly loves everything from Wolf and Badger, likes Penhalligon's perfume and I have a note in my phone that says "Rosa's T Gloves" but no idea what it means. Only that I made a note of it when she mentioned them at some point...

Help!

When you Google the gloves, the Titanic replica gloves come up. Does she like that style of clothing?

Titanic replica clothing? She's bang into it!

Sorry - that made me laugh. No she does not have a desire to look like an eighty year old Kate Winslet. Not that I know of anyway...

Might you have misheard?
Gloves - Fratelli Rossetti

BlowingAway · 27/11/2023 23:22

Honestly I'd be pretty happy if my husband went to the effort to asking people on a style and beauty board what I might want.
You can always just... Not answer.

Squiggles23 · 27/11/2023 23:35

I love this OP!

Far better than many guys efforts. A friend of mine worked at John Lewis and used to love it before Christmas when the guys come in looking a bit lost and with a slightly panicked look in their eyes - the golden customers you could sell them anything to.

Could it be foxglove, I think there’s a couple of cashmere scarves called that on the w&b website?

Squiggles23 · 27/11/2023 23:40

Ignore that got distracted by all the wolves & badgers and thought the first word was fox not Rose!

CrapBucket · 27/11/2023 23:47

Get some gloves like what Rosa from Brooklyn99 would wear. Any surprise present related to her has to be a good present.

Those seem quite nice. I might go for a pair of them.

Honestly! Poor OP. There are various 'what shall I buy my teen son/ daughter' threads that pop up at this time of year & the posters don't get half as much stick for 'not knowing' their own kids.

CharlotteRumpling · 28/11/2023 11:46

I have no problem with anyone asking bit as OP has to do this every year, wouldn't it be simpler to follow my strategy and ask your wife for a list of 5 or 7 or 10 things she wants and buy 1 or 3 or 5?

Not much of a surprise then is it?

I prefer to get her something at least somewhat unexpected. If it's things that she is actually cognisant of wanting/ needing, she'd buy them herself or I'd just buy them for her as and when.

I try not to buy her any old shit, hence me getting tips from here. But equally, I don't want to buy her something she could very well just go out and get herself.

Some of these responses piss me off! The amount of people seen asking for advice on what to buy husbands and that's fine but the man haters are rife AF! Grrrr. Sorry OP I can't really help I'm shit with presents as we only buy small but it just annoyed me

faffadoodledo · 29/11/2023 06:42

Re Penhaligons.. I used to think it was old fashioned and fuddy Duffy but my son and DiL love it and bought me Luna perfume the other year. I love it! So pretty and wearable.
I agree their 'selection boxes' of different vials are fun too.

Your comment about cheap bike stuff made me laugh because that is exactly what DH has asked for! Along with a huge pile of books. I am adding compression socks to the list. He runs and has never tried them so maybe he'd like them.

I also don't know what people have been so aggressive towards you. Posters are constantly asking what to get their teen boys or 3 year old nieces or even husbands.

faffadoodledo · 29/11/2023 06:45

Oooo don't know your budget but what about something beautiful from Brora? Careful with the socks tho - no one wants to hand wash socks!

SyncTheClock · 29/11/2023 06:57

What about something that’s a treat for your February holiday?
If it’s a beach then Heidi Klein, Lancaster sunscreen or a fancy beach bag.
For skiing top notch gloves

A man comes on mumsnet because he doesn’t listen to his wife well through the year, to get other women to do the work for him. And he tries, and fails, to be funny. 🤢

I thought he was pretty amusing, and good natured considering the shit you lot are chucking at him.

Dead thread! 💀

I think you're the one who revived it...

Carleatspeas · 29/11/2024 08:58

Hello dear Mumsnetters. I'm back again for my annual allowance of abuse (how could you treat your wife so badly as to ask Mumsnet for Christmas present ideas?) and advice (She now has several Angora berets).

This year, I've already bought a couple of things. Some pajamas, a massage gun and a Selfridges beauty set). Once again I am out of ideas as to what else to get her. I've been scouring the Wolf and Badger website but I may as well be flicking through a Freeman's catalogue from 1987 for all the inspiration it's giving me.

So, once more around the winterval merry-go-round. What suggestions would you make for my forty something, dog walking, netball playing, nature-loving wife?

In return, I'm here to steer you away from engraved hip-flasks, celebrity autobiographies and retro fleeces for your husbands and sons.

I only ask for experiences these days. Theatre tickets, courses, trips away?

CharlotteRumpling · 29/11/2024 09:07

Oh ha ha I commented on this post last year too. I still think my list suggestion is a good one.

Laska2Meryls · 29/11/2024 09:20

I love outdoor things @Carleatspeas
have asked for Toast Chup Fairisle socks and I like ( but haven't asked for because I have lots ) the Toast Chamula Hand Knit Hat.
Id also really love a Kate Sheridan Orbed Tab bag
But I see that today there is 20% off the Telegram bags at Kate Sheridan - these are also fab

Carleatspeas · 27/11/2023 16:37

Yes. It's been a great success as I'm not actually able to talk to my wife and I imagine that all women like exactly the same things.

I usually surprise her with the gift recommended by strange women from the internet just after she's finished clearing up after everyone on Christmas day. You should see her face when push the box toward her as the soap suds drip from her fingers.

🤭🤣
I'm afraid I won't be of help here, but felt the need to say you made me lol.
Good luck! Oh, and I hope you solve the mystery of the gloves...

anythinginapinch · 29/11/2024 09:41

You sound great to me, OP. How about something doggy www.doghouse.co.uk/products/nina-ottosson-multipuzzle-level-4
