I was also going to say Dune. But these types of boots are everywhere. M&S alone has 62 different versions.

@SomethingMustBeScaringThemAway if the makers of Shetland were interested in realism and authenticity to the books in any way, they'd never had cast Dougie Henshall as Jimmy Perez.

Have you looked at Honey & Toast bags?

And we’d have been the poorer for it! Grin

I have looked at Honey and Toast, I love the shapes but they don’t come with silver hardware. Dammit.

SomethingMustBeScaringThemAway · 24/11/2023 08:58

But it must be fascinating, with such a ubiquitous item as a pair of Chelsea boots, to pitch it exactly right. Particularly now that everyone who sees a show has the ability to check up - and to judge if they think you’ve got it wrong. I’m reminded of the interviews with the costume designers for Succession.

BrimfulOfMash · 24/11/2023 09:04

Tosh’s jumper in a previous episode was fantastic: dark green with a burnt orange fair isle yoke.

Maybe @MNHQ could ask the Shetland wardrobe department to come and do a Questions session??

BeardedIrises · 23/11/2023 22:32

I think they’ve done that all right, actually. She’s been wearing the same trousers throughout, with (1) the black jumper with yellow cuffs, (2) the blue knitted tank with the shirt under it, and (3) some other top — maybe a waistcoat over something? And the same coat, blue scarf, hat and boots.

But most detectives aren't going to be swanning around in £160 scarves are they?

Why ever not? Particularly if London based. I imagine her friendship group - maybe partly acquired through uni - includes doctors and lawyers and teachers and the odd creative artist; so a fairly wide range of incomes and life experiences to tap into. I can’t think of any reason why a successful professional woman, with presumably some social life, wouldn’t enjoy spending some of her salary on being well dressed.

SomethingMustBeScaringThemAway · 24/11/2023 09:16

Particularly as she doesn’t appear to have any dependents or a curmudgeonly husband draining her coffers!

EllaPaella · 24/11/2023 09:27

Anyone know where the beautiful coat is from?

faffadoodledo · 24/11/2023 09:37

I think if Ashley is staying on Shetland she'll be needing a more waterproof coat. I'm sure Jimmy's was one of those clever wool coats that repels wet weather. Not sure Ashley's London coat will do the same.
I speak as someone who has some lovely coats which i can rarely wear because I live in wet old Cornwall!

awaynboilyurheid · 24/11/2023 10:26

The blue scarf is beautiful anyone any ideas where it’s from? Sorry to hijack

Elastica23 · 24/11/2023 10:34

Mine are a bit similar, chunky Chelsea boots. Think I got them from Hotter, either last year or the year before, bizarrely. They are all over the place this year though, you should be able to find some.

Blue scarf - I'd try Accessorize. I went in for a black scarf the other day, there were all sorts of discounts and colours and I paid about £9 for mine in the end.

Elastica23 · 24/11/2023 10:39

This looks very similar @awaynboilyurheid

Uniqlo do a cashmere fringed cobalt/royal blue scarf.

Whatineed · 24/11/2023 10:40

I have very similar, if not identical boots from H&M which I bought last year. They also do a very similar pair in Mango, currently on Black Friday discount.

Merryhobnobs · 24/11/2023 12:17

Yes someone on the Shetland thread identified it. It was lovely. Out of stock as last years I think and quite expensive but if you look at that thread people found alternatives.

RainySummer · 24/11/2023 12:40

I read this thread yesterday, and was just browsing Oliver Bonas - I think these look like the boots (except for the pink stitching, but it looks quite subtle, it’s not obvious in all the photos so could be them?) … hope the link works

I bought a £400 scarf in a boutique in Muswell Hill when I was a junior academic on maternity leave. In a spirit of ‘Fuck you, Muswell Hill’. The baby is 11 now and I still wear the scarf.

We will know Ruth has decided to stay on Shetland when she gets a more waterproof coat.

Yes, I think Jimmy’s regular coat was water-repellent, and also, usefully, could be worn with the collar up in bad weather, giving the protection of scarf without any costume designer having to think about scarves, practicality vs aesthetics, or whether cornered foes would strangle him with it.

The thing I liked about Douglas Henshall was that he looked properly weatherbeaten.

Elastica and Ella thank you heads off for a browse….

Countmeout · 24/11/2023 14:04

@awaynboilyurheid and the Toasts scarves are well worth it, can be used as wraps, blankets to have a snooze under etc.

would the boots be Sturlini given the Toast clothing on the show?
