Does anyone know the make of Tosh’s rain coat. Love Tosh’s look!

I think she looks great, but reading this thread has me pondering. I'm incredibly allergic to wool/cashmere/angora/alpaca. If I were an actress, would the costume designer take that into account, I'm wondering? I can't wear wool at all, it has me scraping at my skin in seconds.

Rather random, I know ...

Handsnotwands · 02/01/2024 12:41

it's the super soft leather that sets her boots apart from lots of these. i'm a sucker for creasy soft leather and it's quite difficult to find

Maybe they would write in into the script, so you could be the new detective in town with the itchy skin condition… Like The Singing Detective.

Sorry, photo didn't upload.

Yes it’s these ones that she wears. I have some. Quite expensive £275 but butter soft and easy to pull on and off my wide feet with high instep nightmare. They develop creases as you wear them as so soft. Link below.

Yes, that’s where they’re from! I work on the show, and that’s where I bought them. The scarf is from Cos, the coat is from Stories. Tosh’s Fairisle is from The Carrier Company. Thank you all for your interest!

Ooh thanks @LKAYA
can we ask where you bought the lovely green jumper in the last episode?

LKAYA · 08/01/2024 20:13

faffadoodledo · 08/01/2024 21:44

Ooo @LKAYA what was your job on Shetland? Am genuinely intrigued. Great show. And I think Ashley will be a great replacement for Jimmy Perez.
I watch it for the landscape mainly. But now for Ashley's wardrobe too!

Hi, I’m the Costume Designer. So glad you’re enjoying it

Excellent, @@LKAYA — can you take any questions? I’m only a fairly recent convert to Shetland, and having occasionally been an extra in somewhere nearly as wet and windy as Shetland, I was wondering how you, as a costume designer, manage to walk a line between practicality (this character’s clothing has to believable for the climate of Shetland, and they need to be able to grab it off the back of a chair and run out, and to wear it in and out of the car) and creating a character? And continuity presumably means a character can’t have six coats?

In that sense, Perez’s eternal, jeans, jumpers and pea coat must have been a lot simpler from your POV?

faffadoodledo · 09/01/2024 08:48

Ooo yes @BeardedIrises good question. I must admit I live somewhere nearly as wet and windy as Shetland and can rarely wear my beautiful wool coat, which would get sodden. But there again no one would enjoy me wearing my usual goretex type coat! Not at all stylish! So it's a tricky line to tread.

workitworkitworkit · 09/01/2024 12:04

thanks for joining the thread @LKAYA , and great job with Ashley Jensen's wardrobe. I loved the green jumper and almost bought it in the Me+Em sale. But the coat remains a mystery - where did you get it? I've searched loads of grey coats and not seen one quite like it....

LKAYA · 09/01/2024 12:16

Hi. Its from And Other Stories

FuckingHellAdele · 12/01/2024 20:07

LKAYA · 12/01/2024 20:18

Of course, its Didriksons Ilma Parka 6

Thank you ☺️

I must congratulate you on your work on this one, as you can tell, there's a lot of love for the outfits this season!

LKAYA · 12/01/2024 20:33

Thank you so much, it’s lovely to get such positive feedback. So glad you all enjoyed the show, I loved working on it!

BrimfulOfMash · 13/01/2024 09:26

This is so exciting!

I was in AndOther Stories only yesterday wondering if the coats were Calderesque!

Love the boots. Will this style look dated next year if I splash out now? Oh the angst!

How is Calder going to maintain her style while based in Shetland? She’ll have to order online. Or does Lerwick have these shops? Tosh went to Norway in one series, maybe she can shop in Oslo? Or Glasgow? Obviously she will need a good Didrickson in due course.

Thank you @LKAYA

SomethingMustBeScaringThemAway · 13/01/2024 09:38

Oh, this is fascinating!

@LKAYA I’m wondering how much you think about class / status / rank / background / spending power / etc in dressing characters and whether such considerations are instinctive or require much conscious thought and research. Do you think it would be possible to subvert a possible stereotypical reception of a character, by viewers, through the way they are presented in clothes and styling?

(Sorry that’s so long!)

friskybivalves · 25/03/2024 08:21

@LKAYA Really sorry to resurrect an old thread but all too late I have finally watched the most recent Shetland (I just wasn't sure I could adapt to life without Jimmy but the Tosh love carried me through) and now I have a new unrequited passion.

The Green Jumper 💚

Gone forever from Me+Em I suspect, especially if it was in the sale. Weeping tears as salty as any loch here. Help! I need some search terms! Was it merino and cashmere? Did it come up true to size - am usually an 8 or an S but would take literally anything at this point...

I gather they are filming two new series now. Cannot wait to see what you have in store for us next. Coats...jumpers...boots...bags...

Would be nice if poor Billy could ever get a change out of that nylon shortie?
