New haircut looks like a wig

I’m not sure what’s going on here. But I had a haircut (from very long) to chin length. But it looks odd and I can’t explain why?

It kind of looks a bit like a wig?

Is it because my hair is very thick? What should I say to my hairstylist?

I think it needs some layers and shape cutting into it as it's quite thick?

Mines exactly the same btw! My hairdresser spends 2 mins chopping the length and then about half an hour cutting in layers and texture.

monicagellerbing · 13/11/2023 16:20

It needs thinning out, the thickness is making it look blocky like Lego hair. I have the same thick hair and length and always need it thinned out

gm2023 · 13/11/2023 16:23

I like it but I think your hair looks really dry and it could do with some moisture to soften the style. Maybe a deep conditioning hair mask? I think it’s more the texture than the cut.

Makemydaypunk · 13/11/2023 16:25

It doesn’t look wiggy from the front but the back view it does somewhat I’m afraid, you suffer from triangle hair so you either need to wear it longer or get some layers cut in.

Irregardless · 13/11/2023 16:49

It looks like you have a very high hairline and I think it’s that combined with no layering. It looks a bit like lego hair you just put on the head. Maybe also because it’s so blonde dyed that it doesn’t look like it could be anywhere near your natural colour.

Neverendingstory2 · 13/11/2023 16:50

It definitely needs some layers. And it looks dry so maybe some conditioning as well?

I looked again. I think you’re right..because it’s so dry and yellowish blonde it looks like a wig. But probably easily fixed!

theatrical · 13/11/2023 16:53

I quite like it.

theatrical · 13/11/2023 16:54

Though a couple of inches longer might look better. I agree about conditioning

KeepSmiling89 · 13/11/2023 16:55

Yep - bit of layering would definitely help here - maybe try an inverted bob style?

Ibetyoudidntknow · 13/11/2023 17:17

Thank you all for your advice.

Its not very light blonde, I think the photos make it look blonder than it is.

im getting a bit upset as I can’t seem to work a style that looks acceptable.

what if you put a mask on then put a gentle wave in it? Think it’d be better with a bit more movement?

TheKnittedCharacter · 13/11/2023 17:20

It looks ok from the front but agree it’s a bit wiggly from behind. It needs layers!

DoktorPeppa · 13/11/2023 17:20

I think it looks lovely.

5128gap · 13/11/2023 17:22

It looks to me like you have wavy hair that's been blow dried straight but because of the thickness and texture it doesn't look like natural straight hair, so you're getting a fake look. This happens to me. The top right with some wave at the front looks much better. Could you have it wavy all over?

McLarenette · 13/11/2023 17:24

I think it looks beautiful! I’d love to have your hair :)

StamppotAndGravy · 13/11/2023 17:26

How long was it? Sometimes it needs a few days to get some bounce when the weight has gone.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/11/2023 17:27

My hair is also very thick and needs to be thinned or I end up with a ‘mushroom’. I think you have the same issue.

truetruebarneymcgrew · 13/11/2023 17:27

I like it, I think it's very 1920s and suave. It says to me awesome woman but don't piss me off or I'll roast your balls!

Ibetyoudidntknow · 13/11/2023 17:28

Thank you for your kind words. It’s such a shock for me I think because my hair texture must be very different to the photos I’ve been looking at.

Im going to do a deep conditioning mask.
Thank you @5128gap that’s a good point.
it is naturally wavey so I’ll let it air dry and see how it looks.

I like it a lot. I think you just need to get used to styling shorter hair so that it falls nicely/in a way you like. The ends/back look dry because of the way it's being styled.

Ninastibbefan · 13/11/2023 17:32

I think it look lovely & thick OP & a cool style. Don’t be disheartened!

Night409 · 13/11/2023 17:37

I love it!!

These straight bobs are really fashionable.

You also have the bone structure to pull it off.

I personally would keep it and just let it grow as it is.

Mummymummy89 · 13/11/2023 17:48

I like it, you look like Nicole kidman from The Others

Ibetyoudidntknow · 13/11/2023 17:48

I know my mums going to hate it and be very critical.
Pathetic that I care in my mid 30s 😆
