New haircut looks like a wig

I’m not sure what’s going on here. But I had a haircut (from very long) to chin length. But it looks odd and I can’t explain why?

It kind of looks a bit like a wig?

Is it because my hair is very thick? What should I say to my hairstylist?

I think it looks gorgeous. I have completely flat here that I have to force volume in to. I’d love hair like yours!

verrymerryberry · 13/11/2023 20:41

It looks lovely as it is OP. I promise it's beautiful hair.

I can see why you might want a few layers in the back to take the weight out but i its gorgeous.

Sometimes the shock of a change. But we've all been there with the haircut induced palpitation and cold
Sweats !

wited · 13/11/2023 20:42

More conditioner than usual and another inch and you'll be grand. I put pretty clips in mine when I'm cross with it to cheer me up a bit.

LeakyPipes · 13/11/2023 21:31

I like it 😁

greenhydrangea · 13/11/2023 21:38

It’s not the stylists fault at all. She is fab. It’s just my awkward hair I think

It is the stylist's fault because she's given you a cut that is unsuitable for your hair type.

eurochick · 13/11/2023 22:12

I like it. Particularly in the middle photo with a few waves.

whiteshutters · 13/11/2023 22:37

Kudos to you for going for such a change. I was at the hairdresser today and it was a struggle to add a few extra lowlights!

EmmaEmerald · 13/11/2023 22:43

It looks lovely
Like Jaime King has her hair sometimes.

WeAreBorg · 13/11/2023 22:52

I like it, you look chic and elegant. Prefer the blunt blocky look - it looks good and you need thicker hair to achieve that. I have no idea why everyone is telling you to get layers, the blockiness is why it’s great!
One colour, one length, then waft around looking effortlessly beautiful - DONE

LostInAFrost · 14/11/2023 01:28

I love this cut, but I would encourage it to wave, that looks so fresh and eliminates the blockish-ness, if you see what I mean. A gentle wave or soft curls would elevate this cut so perfectly. I think it is the blunt, straight ends that create the 'wig' effect you are concerned about.
I see hair that wants to light up and come alive here!

LostInAFrost · 14/11/2023 01:29

And crikey DO NOT LAYER!!!! Your hair would expand.

foxlover47 · 14/11/2023 01:42

I really like it , like others have said I would run a soft wave through it , you could grip up one side with a nice clip etc

RavingStone · 14/11/2023 06:48

Layering thick wavy hair often just puts the volume in a slightly different place. Personally I think you look great. Especially the wavier picture. Just really effortless and cool. Definitely don't get it thinned as that just puts a messier texture in and makes wearing it wavy harder.

I think it's ok - good even - to let thick hair just look thick! After all, a lot of cuts are designed to give thinner hair more volume. Enjoy having thick hair! You can always get an undercut in the summer if it gets too hot.

MarvellousMinnie · 14/11/2023 06:57

It looks similar to the beautiful Ali Bailey...check out her Insta for styling inspiration

SquishyGloopyBum · 14/11/2023 07:29

Just be careful she doesn't put too many layers in.

Pinkflamingopants · 14/11/2023 07:39

Short bobs on thick hair are a minefield. I’ve learnt the hard way too OP. I think you could straighten in and put some good hair oil in it to make it a bit sleeker. And then maybe consider getting some layers put in.

Wonderously · 14/11/2023 07:41

when I last checked block bobs and French shag were fashionable, so either very layered in a modern/retro way or one length.

I think you’re curly/wavy so try relative drying methods to go with your natural hair

Starseeking · 14/11/2023 07:54

You have wonderful hair! Your hair looks like it is naturally curly/wavy, and like it would be wonderful natural with some product to give it a bounce. This style could look great with a bit of "messiness" and carefree to its shape. Don't force it straight, embrace the curls! 😍😍😍

Boymum2104 · 14/11/2023 08:06

Absolutely love your hair!

FastFood · 14/11/2023 13:22

I like it OP, I think you're fixated on this because to go from long hair to a short, straight bob is quite something to get used to, but it looks good!
Maybe a bit more layers at the back, but really, it looks lovely like that.

I recently had my curtain bangs done by a hairdresser, quite thicker than usual, and she blow dried my hair, something I never do.
For 1h, I was like "What is that??" and after that, I was walking in the streets like I was a bloody fashion model. Just needed to get used to it. Now I can't wait to go back.

Zengarden001 · 14/11/2023 15:00

I absolutely love it. I have super thick wavy hair and I know what it is to fight with your hair type but this looks totally fab and fashionable. If you add in layers I think you risk it look more "meh" and middle aged!

missmoon · 14/11/2023 16:09

I think it looks nice!

FrenchandSaunders · 14/11/2023 16:15

I like it and would love to have thick hair like that. Mine is menoupausal and thinning.

Oh and ignore your mum.

Ibetyoudidntknow · 19/11/2023 12:40

Hers looks gorgeous!
