I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

@Peridot1 - yes, the beauty addicts/hoarders thread has definitely been a bad influence on me too. I bought a load of Korean stuff because of it.

TisTheSeasonToLebkuchen · 08/11/2023 09:54

Oh no, I've just buy the QVC Elemis bargain too.
More things to use up. 😅

MrShady · 08/11/2023 09:55

@listsandbudgets oh it's over years definitely
Things like.. I went to Superdrug and the shampoo I use (usually £12) was 20p, or buying the net a Porter advent really cheap after Christmas or spotting an Amazon deal

FayCarew · 08/11/2023 09:59

I'm a bit of a sucker for a 'bargain'. The expensive shampoos and conditioners that are marked down to £1.79 from £12.99 in Boots or something, and they are usually are not as good as the one from Lidl.

Peridot1 · 08/11/2023 10:01

@OchonAgusOchonOh - yes it was Korean stuff for me too! Mainly SPF to be fair and I go through a lot of that.

To be honest, I wouldn't count SPF. That's a medical necessity really.

Peridot1 · 08/11/2023 11:14

@OchonAgusOchonOh - true! Although I did seem to manage to add in another few bits. Of course!

Yeah but you probably got free postage then so you were saving money really.

Peridot1 · 08/11/2023 11:22

@OchonAgusOchonOh - you are so right! (And more of a justifier than me even! 😄)

I should probably stop justifying to myself though if I want to get through my stash.

MavisMcMinty · 08/11/2023 12:33

With four ACs to open I’m about to add another 100+ products to my stash. But after that NO MORE! (Apart from any gorgeous and fairly-priced Liberty kits, obviously, although they’re not often fairly-priced).

EuniceLopril · 08/11/2023 12:48

I'm in. I haven't yet decided how long to do this for, probably until 1st May 2024 but first I need a clearer picture of how much, and what, I've actually got.

I have so much stuff. Crammed bathroom cabinets, four big drawers in an ancient 'chester draws' in my office room. Even my desk is cluttered with lippies and makeup brushes. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to inventory everything and sort/store by category per suggestions upthread.

I will continue Liberty BD. Haven't bought any advent calendars this year. I will probably buy a couple of my HGs in Black Friday sales, depending on discount. But that's it!

listsandbudgets · 09/11/2023 18:15

@EuniceLopril Welcome. I think a lot of us have the same problem of not actually being quite sure what we have. Let us know how the stash sort goes.

@MavisMcMinty FOUR!! I thought I was being extravagant with 2. Still you'll have fun opening them. Are you going to do them all at once or keep a couple for January. I may well open the M&S one then and the Liberty one in December.

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 18:55

Think I’ll open LiB through December, rip into Liberty all at once on Christmas Day, open OK throughout January, and open M&S on any spare days in between.

narniabusiness · 09/11/2023 19:08

I have quite a stash to use up. I bought or was given 4 advent calendars last year and signed up to Liberty beauty drop. I thought I’d get through those products in a year, but as a previous poster said, they last for ages. Olaplex and Elastiser disappear very quickly though, so I have bought an M&S beauty box and a Boots awards box to top them up and of course they are a bargain but now I have more stuff. Then there was the Liberty GWP that I used to refill last years calendar and the F&M calendar which is full of bath products so probably not too bad.
All this after many years happily using Nivea and the body shop and never anything more expensive than that. I’ve never confessed to this before and I can see it was silly to buy so much but good to know I’m not alone.
So basically I’m in (except for not cancelling the Liberty beauty drop because it’s such fun to open and I usually like all the stuff). I’m following the Advent calendar thread so I can see the reductions and grab a bargain like last year but I should delete the thread really.

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 19:16

Before I retired in 2016 a colleague asked what I’d do with all my lovely free time, and I replied jokingly that I’d “devote myself to a proper skincare regime”. Ha! That’s actually what happened, I discovered QVC and that was it, lump sum gone. (I exaggerate, but only slightly.)

listsandbudgets · 09/11/2023 20:54

@narniabusiness I reckon we're all a bit silly. Welcome to the silly thread. I don't quite know what it is about buying these products that's so addictive but it is.

@MavisMcMinty what is the LiB calendar? (Please tell me it's sold out so I'm not tempted by another)

I REALLY WANT the Vogue one but keep reminding myself that its a)Very expensive and b) I'm not supposed to be buying anything else..... but it's so pretty

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 20:59

Latest in Beauty, @listsandbudgets . Don’t know if it’s sold out, it was the first one I bought when it was first released/on pre-order.

(After months of saying I wasn’t tempted by any ACs this year, then bought 4 in the space of about a week.)

listsandbudgets · 09/11/2023 21:08

I'd best not look because if it's not sold out it could be the undoing of me...

Want the Vogue ... sulks

OP posts:
narniabusiness · 09/11/2023 21:27

@listsandbudgets Me too. I hope that Vogue one sells out very soon and the temptation is removed. Besides which logically I tell myself I could buy the bits I really want for much less - and that would be the cashmere bed socks, a candle and the gold hoops that without acquiring any more face creams or serums.

Fraaahnces · 10/11/2023 00:47

Hello everyone! I am Aussie who is also on a Beauty Ban. (Sunscreen doesn’t count though!) I am especially committed to not buying another makeup product for at least a year - unless I have totally finished every last drop or particle of a certain type of product. I am also in the process of weeding out dupes and things I never wear or have simply outgrown. (Fortunately I have two daughters circling like vultures over the spoils.)
First on my list is dupes. To weed them out I am going to literally try them on and see which products perform better and ditch the rest.
Realised that these days I wear lipgloss and rarely lipstick, so the lipsticks need culling first.
Then I shall divide my makeup into two categories - Winter and Summer, and keep them in two transparent boxes that I already own.
I had to throw out some gorgeous Pat McGrath mini Lipglosses because they were so old they leaked through the lids into my drawer. Broke my heart because I loved them all.
This is this week’s challenge.

Peridot1 · 10/11/2023 09:16

I need to whittle down make up too @Fraaahnces. Lots of lipsticks I never use. My main issue is that I only wear make up if I’m going somewhere. Maybe I’ll start putting some on every day just to use it up.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 10/11/2023 09:22

@Fraaahnces - we've already agreed sunscreen is a medical necessity.

Doggymummar · 10/11/2023 09:28

I'm surprised that people buy that much stuff. Maybe I shouldn't be? I buy the big soap and glory gift set at Christmas and it lasts me over a year. Most of last year's stuff is still in its tissue paper, I won't need one this year. I buy a shower gel PROBABLY every three months from supermarket and a pot of Nivea to take on holiday. Guess I'm low maintenance

Peridot1 · 10/11/2023 09:58

@Doggymummar - I think most on this thread are really into skincare and makeup and perfumes. It’s easy to get carried away.
