I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

Cleaning out bathroom and bedroom cupboards. Have started a stocktake and given myself a fright. How can someone with one face have so many products?
This is just skincare (including what I am using daily) and does not take sample (I don’t have many left), makeup or haircare into account.
I’m also pretty sure there’s more stuff hiding in handbags, etc…

Finished the after sun and a small bottle of MB rhubarb body lotion. Now onto a large bottle of Dove - with shimmer!

Almost finished Haeckels cleanser (possible RP) and Boots night cream.

I'm bored with the serum I'm using so might swap to another one for a while.

Fraaahnces · 18/05/2024 15:17

Oooh What’s the MB Rhubarb body lotion like? I love rhubarb! (Except for the bloody twats dancing to the German song on Tik Tok)
I started a stocktake of my skincare today. Frightening. “I only have one face” is going to be my daily mantra.

listsandbudgets · 18/05/2024 16:24

@Fraaahnces if you like rhubarb then next time you're in Lidl treat yourself to a bottle of their rhubarb and rose handwash. It's a dupe of the MB and it's wonderful - and very cheap!! I'm working my way through a huge bottle and look for excuses to wash my hands Grin

New net total

32 in. 66 out. Net 34 out.

I'm not going upstairs to persuade DS that he does need to do his geography homework and while he's doing that (or not!) I'm going to count my stash - I know I'm starting with 55 at my mums so will count up from that. I have a feeling the total will shock me.. please be kind when I come back with it !!

OP posts:
listsandbudgets · 19/05/2024 19:47

OK I've counted - every last bar of soap, sachet of cream, small bottles, big bottles, all my perfumes... tubes, sprays.. everything.. if it's still got something in it, I've counted it.

243 across both stashes Shock That's really not very good is it? It's worse than I thought.. feeling quite shocked. No wonder I've been putting this off

I think I’ve got even more than that ! Hanging my head in shame..

I don't know. I don't think that is too bad given your level of honesty in counting.

I have 94 items in my stash. However, I don't count makeup or perfume. I also ignore soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant etc. I only count unopened items, although in fairness, I don't tend to start a new one until the previous one is finished.

If you took all of the u counted items in to account, I probably have way more than you and I think I'm doing really well.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 19/05/2024 20:39

hey @listsandbudgets don’t beat yourself up. I dare not count.

I have also been purchasing things here and there without feeling guilty (not much though). The things I use the most are shower gels, shampoos and toothpaste. I try to make an effort with face creams and the like but it takes me forever to use them up.

I wouldn’t count perfume. It’s my prized collection and it always increases as I can barely finish a full size bottle. I can’t say the total number I own but suffice to say I am able to wear a different one for each day of the year without repeating them. And then some. I need to reorganise them though as I am unable to access some of them. I have been collecting them since I was 6 when my mum gifted me my first eau the toilette. I have a picture but I don’t own the bottle anymore as I don’t want clutter around. That little bottle set me up for a long little fe journey of olfactory discoveries. Cuca dols eau de toilette.

As for the Aldi dupe of MB it’s currently in use in my downstairs toilet and it’s pleasant but not my fav. It must be the rhubarb that I find strange.

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel That's an amazing life time hobby. I don't think you can count those either - it's a treasured collection not a build up of STUFF!!

I've just discovered I forgot to include some hand creams so add in another 5 to the above...it goes on and on Grin

Just finished the REN face cleaning gel that was in the M&S advent calander - shame it was a lovely product

moimichme · 22/05/2024 19:11

@listsandbudgets I think you're doing all the right things and my stash was larger than yours (including everything, even open products) back in 2021 when I'd gone a bit overboard with beauty advent calendars, tools and gadgets, etc. It was sort of self-care after never being very interested in the past.

But by focusing and trying to stay on the straight and narrow despite what feels like constant temptations I'm hoping to be down to 150 or less by the end of June and I'm enjoying using all these nice items.

You can do it. Slow and steady wins the race and all that.

listsandbudgets · 24/05/2024 13:38

I just started my very last bottle of moisturiser from my main stash. However, I am going to my mum's next week so rather than buying some more I think I'll bring some back with me as it seems silly to buy more when I have an alternative. Also on my last bottle of body cream but since it's 350ml it should last a while but again may transfer some from other stash. At mum's I've still got the piles of nivea things I was given for Christmas and I don't think I've even opened them yet.

I got rid of 5 empties today at JL and did buy a new lipstick getting £5 off which is great

Also ordered some aromatherapy associates mini shower gels on eBay

Still better for me than succumbing to beauty boxes with things I don't really use

listsandbudgets · 26/05/2024 13:12

@suburburban AA bath oils will be one of the first things on my list they're beautiful.

With some reluctance given I've only got 5 days to go, I've decided to extend this until the end of June and the review. I really don't want to I'm missing so many lovely kits and summer edits but that's kind of the point sadly 😂

I very just given DD a bottle of L'occtaine cherry blossom shower gel from my stash. It's one of my favourites but it would have been a while until I'd got to it and she's in the middle ofA level revision so I could hardly say no could I? Did feel a bit of a wrench though.. pathetic but true

suburburban · 26/05/2024 13:29

I know what you mean about giving away stash

I am even using up some of the hair products and feel I am making good progress

I think avoiding beauty boxes is helpful as then you tend to buy what you need.

(Not that I need half of it) 😀

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/05/2024 16:03

I just bought some Faith in Nature Shower gel , not tried this before but I didn't want to use up my Molton Brown unless it's a high day or holiday .
FiN one is nice , Grapefruit&Orange , sharper than the BodyShop Pink Grapefruit .
(They do a 5l refill , I'm not sure if I could get through that much though Grin )

QueefofSheena · 30/05/2024 17:34

I’ve just bought a new Pat McGrath eyeliner pen as I’m sick of cheaper ones flaking or running, so I’m throwing them out.

Fraaahnces · 31/05/2024 13:23

My DD1 swears by the rare beauty one @QueefofSheena. I would love to do wicked eyeliner, but I just make a mess and look like a ghoul.

QueefofSheena · 31/05/2024 17:31

Thanks @Fraaahnces I haven’t seen that one. I tried the PM one on my hand in Selfridges the other day and it didn’t budge for ages. I would have bought it then but there was no one around to sell one to me. Got a code in the end which made it cheaper even after delivery so I feel a bit smug 😁

Fraaahnces · 03/06/2024 02:14

@listsandbudgets Just saw your advice re Lidl Rhubarb soap. Unfortunately Lidl has not yet made it to our shores. (Aus). I really miss the supermarket competition in Europe.

listsandbudgets · 04/06/2024 14:19

@Fraaahnces That was silly of me forgot you were in far and distant lands when dishing out the rhubarb advice.

So June 1st has been and gone but I've not lifted my buying ban. I'm going to review at the end of June.... starting to feel difficult now with so many things out there that I'd quite like to buy!! Don't need them though

Well done @listsandbudgets. I have been rubbish! Managed to justify so many purchases! I definitely have a problem. Currently trying to resist the latest Cult Beauty Edit. I really like the bag…….. 😩

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 04/06/2024 15:39

Oh Lord! I didn’t know there was another edit 🫣

Peridot1 · 04/06/2024 15:46

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel - don’t look!

Peridot1 · 04/06/2024 15:47

PS sorry I tempted you.
