I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

In my case is out of sight out of mind.
I prefer not to go window shopping as it inevitably leads to purchases.
Having said that, perfume is my kryptonite too.

listsandbudgets · 13/03/2024 16:45

I'm definitely NOT capable of simply window shopping 😂

I had to go to Aldi earlier - they've got some lovely dupes but I resisted

@listsandbudgets what dupes are we taking about you say? Asking for a friend 🤣

I might have to go tomorrow for “groceries “😝

listsandbudgets · 15/03/2024 09:59

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel Did you go to Aldi?

I had to go too TK Maxx yesterday to get a red nose t short for DS.... their beauty products are right by the door and you have to walk through to get into the shop.. they had a set of beautiful of Penhalligon perfumes.. pretty little bottles in a beautiful tin.. nearly broke me to leave them!! I bought myself some new teatowls instead.. 😂

I must admit to succumbing to the John Lewis Clarins offer in store with the 4 "free" products

They are a brand I really like and I did recycle some empties and had vouchers so guilt free shopping

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 15/03/2024 19:06

Oh TK maxx is a minefield @listsandbudgets

To be fair I haven’t had the opportunity to check as one of my DC wasn’t feeling very well.

I hope I can take a look eventually before they are gone 🤦🏻‍♀️

listsandbudgets · 19/03/2024 10:47

@suburburban I love Clarins too and you've just reminded me that I've got a huge tube of their bamboo body scrub at the back of a cupboard. I think I'm going to drag it out and use it.

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel Hope it was nothing serious for your DC and that they got better quickly.

Does anyone remember the photo of my quarter used shower gels I posted - well I'm still working my way through theme it's incredible how long they seem to last. I do wash - I promise but I've still got so much left even if the levels are going down. I have finished a couple of the big ones now and some of the littles but I did think I'd get through them sooner.

And as to my latest bar of soap ... still not shrinking Grin

We Have TK Maxx here in Aus too. None of the brands you guys discuss. A lot that went of of business with the ark or products that were sidelined. The only things I like there are things like the Italian soaps (must not buy, must not buy…) and body washes/hand soaps. They last forever. I saw an Aussie company that I swear hasn’t been in operation since the 90’s. That’s a bit odd. It’s got the vibe of a kiss of death for cosmetics companies. (One was run by the slightly nasty ex of one of my besties so reveling in the schadenfreude when I took some selfies with those products to send to him.) I am trying to remember the name of the brand of eyeshadow that they were plugging as though it were Natasha Denona or Pat McGrath… ALL of the palettes were opened and looked like they had been badly assaulted by toddlers.
Found them Prettu Vulgar palettes… Pretty Birdie and Early Bird. Both 2017. Gross!

mdinbc · 19/03/2024 17:31

I really haven't bought any skincare this year. I've been using up my bits and pieces. I had a nice Caudalie radiance serum in a tiny bottle that I've just used up, and now I am opening those little foil samples from the back of my drawer.

Also, i finished a Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil (it's the best!), and asked my DH to help transfer tiny bottles of Azulene oil from leg wax packages that I never used into the finished bottle. There was quite a lot there!

And I scooped out the last bit of Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood flawless Filter from the bottle and moved it into a contact lens case. You get quite a bit that the little wand won't reach! I think that is a product I will repurchase.

listsandbudgets · 21/03/2024 11:23

Finally... .4 of those shower gels gone and the other 3 have clearly dropped in level despite my post the other day- I've "shopped my stash" and put 4 shiny new bottles on the shower rack. However, I still have plenty of unopened bottles left in the cupboard

@Fraaahnces TK Maxx here mainly has quite nice products though I'm sure there are a few that have crept there to die Grin

@mdinbc A good idea to transfer all those little foil packets. I don't really like using the as there's always just a bit too much for one day and then I've got to store open sachets. However, that said I've got quite a number of them so I do try to dig into them every now and then.

I succumbed! Went to Lidl instead of Aldi and found 3 dupes for high end fragrances.

One didn’t make the cut, however …

Bella Italie is a dupe for Scala a Portofino from Dior. Great citrusy uplifting and for 6.99 a 50ml bottle is value for money.

The other one, This is me, is a dupe for Yes I am from Cacharel, think spicy milky shake. I quite like it, in fact I have the original but this one will come with me to the gym (if I can make it, that is).

Lidl dupes are great I've had a couple in the past. Which one didn't make the cut?

Morning all.

I have had 2 fails and have come on here to confess.

First one is not too shameful. I still haven't found something that will she tame my coarse, damaged hair. My hairdresser recommended a product (wasn't selling - just started using herself), so I went online to buy. I long for manageable hair.

Second one is worse - Liberty email came reminding me that I has a £20 voucher due to expire by end of December. Used it towards an EDT I have been wanting to try when I have plenty of perfume to use up.

Be strong, be strong.

How are you all doing?

Since this message, I've bought a replacement VB kajal eyeliner, a Bioeffect EGF serum (my HG) at a bargain eBay price and the infamous NAP Beauty kit. Also a Sure roll on deodorant and some toothpaste which ran out - not counting these.

Not too bad for 4 months and so much better than normal. I still have loads in my stash though 😬.

Fraaahnces · 23/03/2024 07:59

I bought a tester bottle of La Petite Robe Noir (Sands Lid) by Guerlain. It’s a flanker called Noir Perfecto. It’s sweeter than my usual sorts but has sour cherry and violet which I love. (Was worried the cherry would smell like cough syrup but all safe!) Will be great for winter. Also lasts and lasts. Was $8.00 AUD!
Am going to buy a GOOD eye pencil. Am thinking VB, but maybe About Face as their foundation looks interesting and not squillions.

Peridot1 · 23/03/2024 08:54

My stash is looking a bit much again after adding in my Australian purchases and gifts. Sigh.

BUT I have a few things almost finished so that will help. And I have a few things opened but not in use on my dressing table and I think I will get rid of them. Which will also help. With tidiness as well!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 23/03/2024 09:15

@Fraaahnces - I wasn't terribly impressed with the VB eye pencil's staying power. Best brand I've come across for staying put is Pixie. Very reasonablly priced too.

The pther one was called New York and I believe it’s a dupe for Donna Karan’s New York, (the long slim greyish bottle, like a skyscraper) Not a fan of that one, unfortunately.

There was also another one supposed to be in but I think it was sold out by the time I made it to the store, can’t remember the name they used but it was a dupe for Mon Paris by YSL. I would have loved to get my hands on that one too.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/03/2024 11:51

I’ve been good so far and have generally just bought what I need. And used up everything, so most if not all shampoos and shower gels.

My skincare is the same, use it up and then buy. I still have haircare products to use.

I bought some of this - there's 5 fragrances : Orange , Mango, Cherry , Shea, Melon.

I got the Orange and the Mango .

I just opened a new bottle of Molton Brown Orange and Bergamot shower gel which is my favourite but it's so ££
On a workday I just need to smell clean so something cheap'n'cheerful will do .

CornishTiger · 24/03/2024 08:59

Morning Everyone.

I’ve been really blinking good! I have only bought a new replacement Naked Lunch Mac eyeshadow as current one running out.

Im so tempted by all the Trinny London and Victoria Beckham eyeliners but I don’t need one do I?! Not really.

I do have some beauty products coming my way to test. Can’t say much about that yet but saw list of products yesterday and hopefully that will satisfy me for a while.

TheChosenTwo · 24/03/2024 22:53

@CornishTiger i didn’t rate the VB eyeliners, way too wet and smudgy for me, very soft formula and impossible to sharpen. Colours not nearly as nice once they’ve been smudged either, which is a shame as I never found myself able to get a smoothly
defined line with any of the colour but one of my pencils broke off at the other end so when you pulled the lid off the smudger was stuck inside it and I resorted to using my finger or needing to use the end of another pencil. I gave them away in the end as they just pissed me off when I saw them in the drawer to someone whose kids used them as watercolour pencils for arts and crafts 😂 (didn’t think it was very hygienic sharing eye pencils as they’re not easy to sharpen!)
Save your dosh I say.
