I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

I’m ashamed of myself, for I bought makeup and skincare. Sigh. I’ve been looking for the Holy Grail product for rosacea and likes the Tiger Grass colour corrector so I had to try the other things in the range. I took 5 empties back to Lush and got money off Ultraplant which I use every day, it’s the only think that takes my eye makeup off without stinging. I’ve got a mini Clinique mascara which is the last mascara in the stash but I’m currently using a full size one and I don’t like it, it migrates down my face and gives me panda eyes. So I saw this reduced Christmas set of 4 Benefit mascaras and thought it was a bargain. I also got a free sample of an Ester Lauder foundation, am trying to find something to cover rosacea but that’s not as heavy as my Clinique Redness Solutions. Anyway, no empties today and I’ve added to my stash. The shame!

@sallyanne33 - you need to forgive yourself! Dr Jart is basically a medical need, and Lush products and Mascara supposedly go off and need replacing frequently.

QueefofSheena · 17/01/2024 10:38

I’m managing to keep it under control, my only temptation will be perfume but I’ve got too much already 😬 Beauty Drop has arrived, it’s not going to add significantly as I didn’t like or use a couple of things, so they’ll get passed on.

I’m trying to do a low buy 2024 on clothes etc too. That’s going okayish, I’ve bought some jewellery and a couple of jackets in the sales, but I think I’ve convinced myself that I’ve got enough now!

listsandbudgets · 18/01/2024 13:42

@sallyanne33 Finding the right product for problem skin definitely outweighs a ban on buying and if you've run out of mascara (well sort of) then buying more fits within (my rules) of not buying something until you've run out of that category.

I've not spent a penny on beauty since I decided to ban myself on 2nd November. However, there is the little matter of 2 advent calendars worth of stuff and the Beauty Drop arrived yesterday so my stash is quite a lot larger than it started.

Still finding offers all over my facebook and some are still creeping through into my email. I'm unsubscribing where ever possible.

I've used up a shampoo and shower gel from the blasted huge collection of the things I seem to have acquired from Center Parks and I'm close to finishing a lip balm and deodorant but still working on the bigger shower gels

I have somehow bought quite a lot of cleaning stuff though. I got 2 bottles of flash, couldn't find them and then got 2 more and obvoiusly now have 4 and the 2 I found at the back of the cupboard which I had in the first place so 6

@Musntapplecrumble Perhaps we were separated at birth!!

Did you like the beauty drop. I'm pleased to have another Charlotte Mensah product as I really like the hair oil that was it the AC

I’ve got lots of empties to report. Would buy the Origins Mega mushroom serum again, even with its weird smell, didn’t like the Monday Gentle Shampoo, not that gentle and hair was greasy again the next day. New Wash Deep, so wanted to love it but made hair revoltingly greasy, so much so that it came with its own dry shampoo! Had to use as an overpriced, vinegar smelling conditioner, glad to be rid of it, regret the waste of money. Lush Snow Fairy body lotion, disgusting smell but made skin soft, would not RP. Origins Checks & Balances face wash, nice and creamy but too drying for everyday use. Clinique sachet, seems ok but not really enough to tell. Maybelline Fit Me pressed powder, a good budget buy, would RP. John Lewis hand cream went on forever, used it up on my feet. Ok but I prefer O’Keefe’s working hands so would not RP.

However I’ve ordered Soolantra and Rosex to try to finally get rid of rosacea so that’s 2 items incoming. Feels good to be making progress though. Have got several things out of the stash to use next.

CornishTiger · 20/01/2024 19:41

I am so naughty. I’ve been after a good red lipstick or a bold lipstick for ages. I’m normally a nude lipstick/gloss type. However after hankering over Mac Russian red I ordered it ( eBay so who knows if it’s genuine). Then I remembered I have Revlon Certainly red that’s suppose to be a dupe. It pretty much is but Russian Red is deeper.

I also ended up at a mac counter. Didn’t realise a boots nearby had one. Tried D for Danger. Loved it. Ordered a Rimmel 107 as apparently a dupe. It’s arrived and I love it.

Today I dug through my make up stash. Found a no7 deep plum that is years old. Love it too. Of course it’s discontinued!

Hopefully this will satisfy me for a bit. Although now I’m looking at lip liners….

CornishTiger · 20/01/2024 19:43

Think in order its

No7 Deep plum.
Rimmel 107
Revlon Certainly Red
Mac Russian Red.

@CornishTiger Love the colour of the Mac one.

listsandbudgets · 20/01/2024 20:24

@CornishTiger Looks like war paint.

luckily for both my bank and my stash size i don't wear make up but if I did I'm sure I would have tons!

The No 7 Deep Plum looks lovely

CornishTiger · 20/01/2024 20:50

@listsandbudgets war paint is a good description. It was going to be either bold lipsticks or my first tattoo for (another) mid life crisis. @sallyanne33 apparently it’s a pretty universal suit everyone red. @FayCarew thank you. Typically it’s the one that’s discontinued. Going to wear it a few weeks and then see if I can find out that matches if I love it. Don’t want to fall in love and not have a back up!

CornishTiger · 20/01/2024 20:51

On a using up /not buying point of view. Finished a wild deodorant. Not repurchasing yet. Have other deodorants to use.

Peridot1 · 22/01/2024 11:28

@CornishTiger - I’d love to be able to wear red lipstick. I have a Charlotte Tilbury one I wear very occasionally. I like the look of the Mac one.

I am trying to resist a Cult Beauty GWP. I am going to Australia in three weeks and seeing three good friends and was trying to think of some little presents to take. One of the things I thought of was Charlotte Tilbury Magic Lip Oil as I really like it. If I buy three of those I spend enough to get the GWP I think. And it looks pretty good. But I don’t need anything!

Maybe I need to think of different presents for my friends!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 22/01/2024 11:33

@Peridot1 but if the presents are appropriate, why not?

You could always divide up the GWP and give them a little mini hamper type thing.

Peridot1 · 22/01/2024 11:36

I could @OchonAgusOchonOh. That is not a bad idea at all.

Fraaahnces · 22/01/2024 14:58

@Peridot1 - that’s a lovely idea, but why don’t you ask them if there are any brands they can’t get in Aus (CT is at Mecca) and if they want anything in particular.

Peridot1 · 22/01/2024 15:15

@Fraaahnces - I could but I know I’d be told not to buy anything. It was just to give them something. Having looked at the GWP again it’s not great so I might shelve the idea of buying from Cult Beauty just to get it. I might get some Korean SPFs instead!

Fraaahnces · 22/01/2024 22:50

Fair enough - and you don’t want to find yourself obliged to buy something expensive or something huge!

listsandbudgets · 23/01/2024 18:09

Face masks - they seem to have caught up with the hand creams but again something I've never bought for myself. I've got the creamy ones in tubes and the actual masks (if that makes sense) and I never seem to use them because I never seem to have the time or inclination 20 minutes to lie down covered in gunk. I am sure they're lovely and relaxing and I really don't want to waste them but I never seem to have time and patience. There's always so much to do...

Maybe I should spend less time on Mumsnet and more time indulging in expensive gunk.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 23/01/2024 18:15

@listsandbudgets I never use the sheet masks but what I've started doing at the weekend is putting on a tube mask and having my breakfast before I shower and then wash it off in the shower.

I don't always remember but I'm making some bit of a dent.

greengreengrass25 · 23/01/2024 18:46

Did just order the Prairie neck set from M&S but very good offer

listsandbudgets · 23/01/2024 20:35

OK you've inspired me to try. I've squeezed on some Clarins stuff and am sitting with the dog watching TV. So far the main affect has been to turn my eye brows green but the dog dosen't seem to mind that much!
