Cartier ring - decisions decisions!

Finally, my chance to post about high end stuff after plugging Uniqlo and Next on here for years!

I have always loved Cartier jewellery and am now very fortunate to be able to choose a wedding band from there.

I have 2 favourite styles I've loved forever, both Cartier classics, and now have to pick one! The 'Love' or 'Trinity' in either gold or tricolour.
CRB4085000 - LOVE wedding band - Yellow gold - Cartier
Trinity ring (cartier.com)

Any opinions, experiences etc that would sway me one way or the other would be much appreciated! I'm 100% committed to one of the two though, and won't be entertaining other options. If you hate them both and just want to come on and tell me that.... be my guest I suppose, I don't really care Grin

I have the Trinity and I love it. In fact, I am wearing it today.

ThanksItHasPockets · 24/10/2023 21:20

They are both lovely in their own way but I am not sure either one will look right with your beautiful engagement ring. When I tried on wedding rings I found flat shaped ones like the Love incredibly uncomfortable and ended up with a slim ‘comfort’ band - not from Cartier!

BHRK · 24/10/2023 21:22

The Trinity is much more classy. Definitely my favourite

LookItsMeAgain · 24/10/2023 21:22

Of the two in the opening post I would pick the Trinity, except I’d pick this version:
https://www.cartier.com/en-us/jewelry/wedding-bands/vendome-louis-cartier/vendome-louis-cartier-wedding-band-CRB4052100.html
Simply because I wouldn’t want gunk and dirt and dust to gather in the spaces between the individual bands of the Trinity.

Lndnmummy · 24/10/2023 21:28

I love the trinity. My dh got it for me after I had our second child. I adore it and wear it every day.

TUCKINGFYP0 · 24/10/2023 21:32

With that beautiful engagement ring I’d choose this one

LightDrizzle · 24/10/2023 21:46

While you are at Cartier, ask to try plain and diamond bands with your engagement ring. I love the Trinity, I have a cheap silver Russian wedding ring (not used as a wedding ring) that has miraculously survived 20 years untarnished but it doesn’t go well with other rings.

I thought I wanted a diamond band for my wedding ring but when I tried them on in Tiffany and De Beers, the plain band stole my heart with my engagement ring. I do have a Cartier diamond full eternity that I sometimes stack with my wedding and engagement rings but I usually wear it on my right hand with a family ring, - if at all.

When you try things on you can get a surprise. I thought I’d want a round brilliant halo engagement ring but a (boring) solitaire suited me better.

LightDrizzle · 24/10/2023 21:47

Ooh! Now that’s lovely! Covet, covet…

Saggypants · 24/10/2023 21:47

Covetthee · 24/10/2023 20:56

OP don’t know how you have achieved it but 3 pages in and not a single ‘my wedding band cost £1 and it’sthe meaning that matters not the price , buy a cheap one and donate rest to charity’

👏🏽 so refreshing to see

Isn't it wonderful?!

This is such a treat for me, my DP has really pulled out all the stops to spoil me and while I was definitely ready for someone to come and piss on my parade it's lovely that nobody did. Yet.

FYI everyone that diamond ring pic I posted isn't mine, just the closest I could find to the heirloom ring I wear. Isn't is gorgeous though? I don't have a large diamond like that but the rough shape is the same i.e. a diamond cluster in a horizontal oval.

@TUCKINGFYP0 I love what you've posted but I'm pretty set on the 2 options I started the thread about because 1. they're iconic Cartier and 2. I am looking for a ring without gemstones.

TUCKINGFYP0 · 24/10/2023 21:52

If your engagement ring is a very traditional / classic style then I’d be tempted to pair it with a more classic wedding ring. But I know I’m just rocking the boat here 😁

mrsbyers · 24/10/2023 21:57

I’ve had my white gold engagement ring replated several times / not sure how this could be done with the trinity

LondonLovie · 24/10/2023 21:57

IDoNotMoisturise · 24/10/2023 12:21

I do not like either but the flat looking bands are very uncomfortable to wear, no way could I wear one as a wedding ring, they have sharp edges

I was going to come on here to say this. I have the live band and it's been in its box for years, I dug it out recently to wear and only lasted couple of hours, so uncomfortable!

The other one is beautiful if you are not planning on having an eternity ring. Have you tried it on with your engagement ring?

Simply because I wouldn’t want gunk and dirt and dust to gather in the spaces between the individual bands of the Trinity.

The separate bands are loose and move freely over one another so that isn't a problem.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 24/10/2023 22:00

My Polish granny had a beautiful Russian wedding ring, which is now with my mum and earmarked for my DD one day. I agree with PP that they need to be worn alone on the finger for full effect, so if it’s really important to you to wear your engagement ring with your wedding ring then it may not be the one.

Also, sorry if you know this but the nature of the rings rolling over each other means that they quite quickly develop a patina. I think this looks beautiful but it does look very different to the shine of a highly polished new ring and you would have to have it polished very frequently to keep this appearance.

BungleandGeorge · 24/10/2023 22:09

I like the trinity better, I think it’s pretty and more classic. I’m not sure it will fit well beside the engagement ring though- would you be happy wearing them on different hands? Over the years the engraving on the first will wear down on a ring that you wear every day.

SophiaLaB · 24/10/2023 22:10

My advice would be take your engagement ring in and try both but be open minded. I was 100% convinced that I wanted a certain Tiffany band as my wedding ring but it wasn’t right with my engagement ring. I have it but as a thumb ring and went with a simple plain band as my wedding ring. Have fun in Cartier. I have a Juste Un Clou diamond bangle and it’s my favourite piece of jewellery. I like it because it’s a little bit different so probably would swerve toward the Trinity also it’s probably less copied than the love.

Cigarettesandbooze · 24/10/2023 22:11

The Trinity one is pretty but gosh some of the Cartier rings are seriously awful. Are people really paying £24k for a panther on their finger? Or those awful rings that look like twisted nails? Bizarre.

OP enjoy your ring, I think you know deep down which you prefer.

Fawbs89 · 24/10/2023 22:11

The trinity ring looks like a fashion ring and does not scream marriage. The love ring is OK but will it suit your engagement ring?

LadyBird1973 · 24/10/2023 22:19

I like this one

Cartier ring - decisions decisions!
NorthernSpirit · 24/10/2023 22:37

You need to try both on with your engagement ring to see how they sit with the ring.

The Trinity ring won’t sit flat against your engagement ring band, there will be a gap (which isn’t a great look). Personally I think the trinity style is a little dated - I worked in a jewellers in the mid 90’s when these rings were the height of fashion, so I think it’s time has passed now.

The Love ring - I think will detract from the beauty of your engagement ring (with the design). You want your engagement ring to be the hero and the wedding band to be a little understated. That’s not the case with this ring - personally I think the design will detract from your engagement ring.

yarnwitch · 24/10/2023 22:43

I agree, you need to try them on. Rings in the Trinity style can feel quite bulky to wear. I do like it but would go with the other one for a wedding band. For me it's more traditional and I feel the design is more recognisable as Cartier.

Saggypants · 24/10/2023 23:24

I can't tell you how helpful you've all been!

Reading your comments, especially about stacking, I'm going to explore the idea of the Cartier ring as a statement piece on its own, on another finger.

And repurpose something I already have which is small and plain, to use as a wedding band.

Bellaseas · 24/10/2023 23:45

I love the Trinity ring, but I'm not sure either would work particularly well with your style of engagement ring. (Which is beautiful btw)
