It's for a work event-evening meal at a nice restaurant. I was hoping it would double up for xmas day too. It's black with red polka dots (in case it's not obvious from the pic)

I'm a bit lost with clothes at the moment. Mid 40s and lost all sense of how to dress. I dont know if its a bit frumpy. Would really appreciate honest opinions please.

I think it looks really lovely on you!

LizzieSiddal · 21/09/2023 17:49

I like it and it’s the sort of thing I would wear. However not sure about the boots and tights. Could you wear a pair of heels instead? They would make the dress look more dressy.

LizzieSiddal · 21/09/2023 17:49

Where is it from?

Moopyhereagain · 21/09/2023 17:51

Hmm well it might be slightly frumpy? And also it’s like the ‘dress that broke the internet ‘ as it looks burgundy to me and not black with red spots! It does look decent quality though and fits well. Maybe some chunkier boots and a leather jacket or some such? Although what do I know I’m 51 and have no idea from one day to next on my style!

donkra · 21/09/2023 17:51

I like it. The high neck and the sleeves actually make it non-frumpy even though it covers a lot. I don't think the boots work with it though.

Doggymummar · 21/09/2023 17:51

We wear PJ's on Christmas Day so it's a step up from that, it wouldn't be warm enough for me but it looks lovely on you

Miniminiminimalist · 21/09/2023 17:52

I like it, but if I had your lovely figure I'd wear something that showed it off more tbh!

But it is nice and you look nice in it

Windsor1o2 · 21/09/2023 17:54

Oh gosh, thank you everyone! I was expecting to be told it looks like shit. The colour is much nicer in realt life, it does look burgundy in the photo.

I agree about the shoes. I think I need either a proper heal or flat maybe?

It's from new look but I bought it off vinted for £2.50.

I like it!

Windsor1o2 · 21/09/2023 17:56

I was thinking of putting a slit in the skirt to de frump it a bit.

There's really no need. It's not a frumpy style. You can if you really want, though.

I'd wear it with either very chunky Chelsea boots or a stack-heeled boot.

FelixDoublyDelicious · 21/09/2023 18:18

Horrid, I wouldn't. Very frumpy looking

I am older than you and would not wear that - sorry. I know its personal taste but looks a bit dowdy

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 18:23

It looks a bit Amish to me but I seem to be in the minority so clearly know nothing! It doesn't look awful.

TeenTraumaTrials · 21/09/2023 18:24

I do think it's a bit frumpy. I think it's the neckline combined with the sleeve shape. But plenty of others think it's nice so clearly just a matter of opinion.

TheChosenTwo · 21/09/2023 18:25

I really love it!

Mercurial123 · 21/09/2023 18:31

It's OK for the office but I wouldn't wear it for a night out.

Windsor1o2 · 21/09/2023 18:37

Thanks for all the honest thoughts.

I've just dug this out as a second option. It's a navy jumpsuit in a silky fabric.

I prefer the jumpsuit

EllaPaella · 21/09/2023 18:43

Both look 'office' rather than night out but are ok. I don't love either (sorry) but prefer the jumpsuit out of the two.

LizzieSiddal · 21/09/2023 18:46

I prefer the dress but wear what you feel the nicest in.

Theblacksheepandme · 21/09/2023 18:53

I love the dress and don't think it looks frumpy at all. The shoes, bag and jewellery you choose will change it to a night out look. Not sure about the jumpsuit at all.

LucyLoopyLu · 21/09/2023 18:56

I prefer the dress but it doesn't look right with the shoes and black tights. It sort of looks bottom heavy as there's a big black block at the bottom of your figure.

Can you just go without tights for the do?
I wouldn't let that bother me at all for XMas but we don't dress up as it's just an at home / close family occasion

crostini · 21/09/2023 18:57

Both fine, but officey!

They are not really appropriate for a 'do' or party

StoneTheCrone · 21/09/2023 18:58

You have a great figure and I think neither outfit does you justice.

It would be worth spending a bit more for good cut, colour and finish.
