It's for a work event-evening meal at a nice restaurant. I was hoping it would double up for xmas day too. It's black with red polka dots (in case it's not obvious from the pic)

I'm a bit lost with clothes at the moment. Mid 40s and lost all sense of how to dress. I dont know if its a bit frumpy. Would really appreciate honest opinions please.

Jesus Christ - don’t ‘get a wrap dress’, @Windsor1o2 ! Grin

Don’t know how I missed this thread at the time. I absolutely love the dress on you - delightfully ‘thinking woman’s frumpy’ - and your footwear silhouette is perfect but could be updated a little.

The £2.00 frock needs a purposeful scattering of proper Chanel jewellery. Particularly a brooch on the waistband.

You could add more interest to your feet with either these tights

and this sort of shoe (these are The Row, as inspiration)

Or alternatively a different colour (these are Zara) maybe matching your hair or skin tone.

But I think it’s a lovely outfit. And assume your work dinner is long past! For Christmas wear I’d probably add tall, pointy gold leather boots. And even more Chanel style jewellery.

The jumpsuit needs burning …

I agree with whoever said that both of them look too big on you - the dress across the shoulders and the jumpsuit around the middle . It looks like the body is too long for you. I have to strongly disagree with the person saying the jumpsuit shows your tummy off🙄

Edited

If this was aimed at me saying op has a ‘tiny tummy’, you can easily disagree without a dramatic eye roll at the end, the thing is OP is asking on an anonymous forum where people are honest, the problem with a jumpsuit is that it pulls in under your bust and at your legs slightly so if you’re feeling self conscious about any slight weight around your middle, (which op says she is) the jumpsuit is going to accentuate it, so probably not the design to go for to feel the most confident in, most dresses would look gorgeous on her and would skim over any areas she’s self conscious about, it’s a genuine opinion, so no need to roll your eyes over it.

They’re both very boring, sorry. Maybe a nice belt would help the dress.

Agreed, if you can find them, an embellished belt. I have a black suede amber diamanté Reiss embellished belt.

Bit late to the post but I prefer the dress….it’s more flattering
you have a lovely figure!

I think a dress would be more flattering for your figure as the jumpsuit does show your (tiny) tummy a bit more, which you don't even notice in the dress, the navy looks nice on you though.

A wrap dress would look nice on you, apricot have a really nice range, I'm early 40's and apricot is often my go to, as the materials are really nice compares to some other shops and they styles are very flattering, something like this maybe?

The OP's dress is much nicer than that.

Seaqueen24 · 15/11/2023 19:48

I think you look lovely in both, although I think the dress is that bit nicer, but with heels. I have a similar jumpsuit to that and was contemplating wearing it for a Christmas meal out too but feel like sometimes the waist band emphasises the tummy on me and after a meal I don't want to be breathing in all night!
