Small fashion annoyances?

Britpopbaby · 05/09/2023 18:27

It goes without saying inconsistent sizing which I would consider a big annoyance however I am thinking of zips, buttons and things like that.

I will start with elastic button holes! One breaks and you either have to stitch it back on or safety pin it.

That many shirts don't seem to be tailored for having a waist and larger bust, unless you buy the ones that are always bought by women who are 70+ and shop solely at M&S. And they're always too short too.

Why can't there by nice fashionable shirts that have an extra pleating for a larger bust so the buttons aren't gaping, but also come in at the waist so I don't look boxy? But that also come down to my hips so they don't get stuck over my wide hips when I raise my arms!

bluegreenandcoral · 06/09/2023 11:33

I think I’ll be on my own on this one but I don’t get the obsession with pockets. They’re clearly popular so lots of skirts and dresses now get designed with pockets but I think having pockets ruins the line and most things look better without!

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 11:55

Clothes with no pockets, fake pockets or pockets that are too small to be of use.

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 11:58

No pockets isn't an annoyance because I'll just not buy it. Same goes for cropped trousers and ankle grazers, 3/4 sleeves and elbow length sleeves.

Seconded - never a problem with men's clothing, it's always women's clothing that is used to save a few pennies, despite us often spending more on them.

Lottapianos · 06/09/2023 12:28

Well, this is a massive one actually.. women come in different heights and that means we have a range of leg lengths. So why in the name of SANITY do 99% of women's trousers come in a range of waist sizes but only ONE leg length??? WHY???

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 13:04

@Lottapianos , because it is cheaper to do only one leg length, I expect.
The proportions would need to be adjusted like they are for petite ranges, wouldn't they?

TheOGCCL · 06/09/2023 13:07

Polyester. I don't mind a little bit if it's not going next to my skin (though tends to bobble) but don't want to be hothoused in a polyester top.

Recycled polyester just makes it clear you're basically wearing old plastic bottles.

Scousemousey · 06/09/2023 13:10

Pockets bug me. As in, on nighties or pj's. Who ever uses those? Also, breast pockets on women's shirts/blouses. Why? 🤷‍♀️

Lovemusic82 · 06/09/2023 13:11

Fake pockets for me too. I love pockets.

I hate trying to find clothes to fit my figure, I am short but with wide hips and bum, boat things are way too long for me. I love jump suits but they don’t fit my figure, the body is either too long, waste in the wrong place and legs are way too long. Dresses are always way too long.

Celticdawn5 · 06/09/2023 13:13

Definitely breast pockets and those useless ones on tee shirts

Apricotton · 06/09/2023 13:15

This is a children’s clothes one, but I hate hate hate those teeny tiny buttons with elastic that you get at the top of some dresses and tops.
They are so small and fiddly and difficult to do up.

Changing a design that works. I bought trousers last year. They are great on me. The other colours weren’t up to much, so I just had one pair. This year, there was a new colour I liked. I ordered them. Unfortunately they had made small design changes like pleats at the front and pocket positioning which do my wide hips no favours. Yes, it was months ago and I’m still sulking.

That slightly distressed look below the button of jeans. On some people it looks fine. On me it just looks like I’m squeezed myself into too small trousers.

Scousemousey · 06/09/2023 13:15

Hoods on dressing gowns. 🤔

CassTheFox · 06/09/2023 13:18

Finding a gorgeous dress on a website.. then finding out it’s backless!!! Aaaaargh how am I meant to wear a bra with that??!! Haha

Seddon · 06/09/2023 13:19

Pockets (usually on jeans) where the lining isn't deep enough and pops out all the time.

Pants that go baggy at the knees after a few hours' wear.

Tops with little button/loop fastenings at the back of your neck... soooo fidgety and my hair gets stuck around them!

Me too! I have a large bust and tum. I don’t want pockets on anything thank you very much bc they just serve to emphasise my problem areas.

Frangipaneloathing22 · 06/09/2023 13:23

Jeans with such a lot of stretch in them that they fit snugly when you put them on, they keep expanding as you wear them, and then they are falling down by the end of the day!

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 06/09/2023 13:34

All tops being box shaped, drives me insane, I have a waist I don’t want to look like sponge bob in my clothes, though I suspect this particular aesthetic will never change because it’s cheap to manufacture.

Lottapianos · 06/09/2023 13:37

'@Lottapianos, because it is cheaper to do only one leg length, I expect'

Yes, I expect that is the reason, but it's total bullshit and 100% NOT GOOD ENOUGH

I use my PJ pockets for snotty tissues. Nice 🤢😁

goingtotown · 06/09/2023 13:42

Those stupid tags that button down turn back cuffs on blouse sleeves.
I unstitch them & remove the button.

This is why I stopped wearing jeans!

It's so hard to find a pair that won't stretch themselves up two sizes whilst you're wearing them, to the point that even the legs have become baggy and you have to pull those up too!

LadyMadderLake · 06/09/2023 13:45

I love pockets so fake pockets or no pockets are my bugbear. I have added pockets to a lot of things!

Pockets in PJs are handy for hankies. (So you can then forget to take them out and ruin your washing...)

Braces would be a good idea 😂

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 13:55

@Frangipaneloathing22 , not all of them expand that much. I wear a belt with jeans.
I can remember nipping into town once in a new pair of jeans, and by the time I headed to the last stop, the supermarket, the jeans were sliding down my hips. making walking difficult. That was the last time I wore them.

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 13:57

Chest pockets on shirts and t-shirts. I don't mind one flat pocket on a shirt, but not the pleated button and flap ones.
