Small fashion annoyances?

Britpopbaby · 05/09/2023 18:27

It goes without saying inconsistent sizing which I would consider a big annoyance however I am thinking of zips, buttons and things like that.

I will start with elastic button holes! One breaks and you either have to stitch it back on or safety pin it.

When my black doesn’t match. Drives me mad.

Hoods on dressing gowns. 🤔

Very good for pretending you’re the ghost of a Benedictine monk and haunting your husband along the cloister hallway though.

Just me?

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 19:00

@Echobelly , M&S are good for bras with small backs but not small cups. Not a fashion one, but I get annoyed with small back, large cup bras with flimsy straps or lacy cups.

AzureBlue99 · 06/09/2023 19:07

I don't like the elephant ears type pockets in trousers, the ones that stick out and ruin the line, rendering a biggish hip even bigger.

Cropped tops, jackets, etc. Zara is the worse for this. You pick up something that maybe has potential (rare these days in there) and when you pull it off the rack, it's invariably creased.

Too many flounces, this Little House on the Prairie look has hung around too long.

Bad fabric - the default now for most clothing ranges at every price point.

snygghygge · 06/09/2023 15:43

I so agree! I've been known to remove pockets when possible but it is such a hassle! I was always taught NEVER to put anything in pockets because it will ruin the clothes. And looks a mess

Dies this advice go for men too?

AzureBlue99 · 06/09/2023 19:15

M&as trouser and jeans lengths. I used to be Short length. They have changed their sizing - if you were short you are now extra short. If you were regular you are now short. If you were long you are now regular etc - they have introduced a taller size.

However, the extra short is not available in store, is only available on a limited range and is invariably sold out. I have a big butt, small waist, I need to try styles on. But now M&S is a no go for me - due to the limited range and availability and not being able to try them on in store. I have contacted them to complain they have now excluded a lot of their customers- got fobbed off. So now I can't buy trousers/jeans from there, I won't buy their tops either. Sod em.

Yes, of course! Why wouldn't stuffed pockets ruin men's clothes?

Those useless loops on tops intended I think, to wrap round the hanger. First thing I have to do is cut them off as they invariably end up peeking out the neck or armhole. Does anyone actually use them?

I have a few long cardigans where I use those loops otherwise they always end up falling off wooden hangers. So two items out of my whole wardrobe I use them on.

Symphony830 · 06/09/2023 19:19

I’m not keen on those hidden zips with the tiny metal pull. I’ve never had one break, but still anxious that it will happen as everything I have with them on is skin-tight.

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 19:19

@snygghygge , some men won't use their pockets because it ruins the line of the clothes.

Notellinganyone · 06/09/2023 19:21

@bluegreenandcoral - totally agree with you. I have a lovely jumpsuit that’s wrecked by the pockets. I don’t want to carry lots of crap on my person.

I know - it was my father who taught me to put neither hands nor anything else in my pockets 😀

NotMeNoNo · 06/09/2023 19:42

I think that explains my pocket ignorance as nobody in my family was a suit wearer. I still think practically wins though particularly for informal clothes.

Another annoyance, women's clothes having no inside/breast pocket where mens do. I bought a gore-tex jacket like this where the only difference in ladies version was: no useful phone pocket. If a garment is cut and constructed right it should be able to manage it.

Amazongirl9 · 06/09/2023 14:59

@Wanttobekind My bugbear is twiddles. Bows, flounces, frills, diamanté, random shite stuck on when all I really want is nice plain basics.

Couldn’t agree more!

Same, I'm not a toddler so I don't want that shite

LoobyDop · 06/09/2023 20:56

Not enough buttons on shirts/shirt dresses, so they gape over the bust even though they are the right size and you have to put extra poppers in.

LiveLaughLoaf · 06/09/2023 21:06

Also surprise clothes, Zara is bad for this. Saw a lovely pair of trousers, soft linen, great length and wide leg, pulled them out and the other leg was just fringe! Bloody useless.

Savemesos · 06/09/2023 21:15

What is it with those stupid pockets on tops - they’re completely redundant and if you have boobs they just emphasise them even more.

Savemesos · 06/09/2023 21:18

jallopeno · 06/09/2023 16:20

Breast pockets. Why

I wrote my post before I read yours - totally agree!!

Having said that, sometimes they don’t look so bad on looser fitting shirts but on t-shirts or more fitted tops they’re stupid. IMO!

Britpopbaby · 06/09/2023 21:22

@NameChangeEmbarressed River Island I think is guilty of this. You see something you like only to find it has embellishments that just make the item too ‘extra’ and so they lose a sale.

Plus size clothing for short arses doesn't seem to exist. Most ranges are made fir 6ft size 20 women, not 5ft size 20 women.

Daysafter · 06/09/2023 21:29

Tops and jumpers that are so low cut they show your bra.

Britpopbaby · 06/09/2023 21:33

@MrsMoastyToasty When I was plus sized Evans was pretty good for petit. Dorthy Perkins might be worth a look as I used to get jeans there.

OP posts:
msmonstera · 06/09/2023 21:34

Vanity sizing/ inconsistent sizing. Eg trying to buy jeans. An 8 in one place (that's you M&S) too big. A 10 somewhere else too tight. Just use the same measurements ffs.
The bra hangers that tangle together. There must be a better way.
Bras that don't have matching knickers in the shop (even if you're not going to wear them, nice to have the choice).
Also the random weird frills. Like a nice white work shirt but with green Maribou for cuffs instead of normal cuffs. (Zara).

choppolata · 06/09/2023 21:39

Drawstring waists on dresses - always hit too high for me.

selectandfind · 06/09/2023 21:42

bluegreenandcoral · 06/09/2023 11:33

I think I’ll be on my own on this one but I don’t get the obsession with pockets. They’re clearly popular so lots of skirts and dresses now get designed with pockets but I think having pockets ruins the line and most things look better without!

As a plus size, I find pockets help. There is no line to ruin
