Can I wear black to a wedding if it's covered in tiny flowers?

I have spent AGES hunting for a dress I will be comfortable enough to wear in at a wedding. I don't do dresses and I don't do bright colour. I do dark clothes. I have found this dress. I like it. Can I wear it to a wedding it says it's black but the tiny flowers all over it make it seem more red/ pink? I would wear it with ankle boots.

Yes I think that would look beautiful

floribunda18 · 10/08/2023 06:08

Yes of course. And I would say that dress looks maroon/plum, not black.

I am wearing black and ivory to a wedding in a couple of months and it is probably the third wedding where I've worn those colours.

That’s a dark pink:purple dress, at a distance. Very suitable, go for it

ithinkhesawus · 10/08/2023 06:12

That's reassuring thank you. I had a wobble because it doesn't really look black does it with all the flowers all over it but it definitely is in the background.

It's lovely, good choice.

EsmeShelby · 10/08/2023 06:25

It's grand. Doesn't look black from a distance.

Catsmere · 10/08/2023 06:40

Doesn't look at all black, the background is completely covered by the flowers. It looks lovely OP!

ithinkhesawus · 10/08/2023 06:54

Thank you all so much I think its got just enough black in for me to feel I'm wearing a dark colour. I haven't ever bought nobody's child before so I hope they are decent quality.

My personal opinion is it’s not very weddingy but it’s pretty!

caringcarer · 10/08/2023 07:05

It looks fine to me, dark but enough pink and maroon to not look black.

Yes I agree it's not the most wedding guesty dress out there is it. I think I'll be able to get more use out of this though so I'll give it a go. It might look different in person.

That’s perfect - enjoy the wedding!

WimbyAce · 10/08/2023 07:26

It doesn't look black to me! I wore a black and white dress to a wedding once.and didn't think anything of it.

Sandytoesbeachywaves · 10/08/2023 07:27

I think that's fine. It's more purple/maroon than black.

It's a nice dress and with some lovely shoes and accessories would be fine for a wedding imo.

What sort of accessories do you think it needs? I was thinking my brown ankle boots and perhaps a watch? Do you think it needs a colourful handbag or can I get away with brown?

Maybe it’s all in how you accessorise it?!

gogomoto · 10/08/2023 07:54

Depends on type of wedding, for a more casual one it's fine, if it's a formal dress code then it's very casual - alas it's not always clear from the invite! I feel bad if I'm under or over dressed, so much easier for men!

SausageRoll2020 · 10/08/2023 08:13

I think the dress itself is suitable for a late autumn or winter wedding.

However, you need to accessorise it properly, so a nice pair of shoes, maybe picking out one of the colours in the dress and a neat handbag or clutch. Your suggestion of brown ankle boots do not sound appropriate and would really dress it down.

GenieGenealogy · 10/08/2023 08:25

I wore that exact dress in a different colour to a wedding earlier in the year and it was perfect.

And that dress is not black! It's dark pink / purple!!

GenieGenealogy · 10/08/2023 08:26

Oh and as for accessories - pink fascinator. Instantly wedding-y.

ActDottie · 10/08/2023 08:26

I think it’s lovely but I think with brown ankle boots you’ll be too casual for a wedding. I’d look at sandals or heels with it.

Mummumgem · 10/08/2023 08:27

I think it’s very pretty, and if you’re comfortable in it you will wear it again

Topictwenty · 10/08/2023 08:28

That’s not a black dress at all! Would be fine for a wedding
