Can I wear black to a wedding if it's covered in tiny flowers?

I have spent AGES hunting for a dress I will be comfortable enough to wear in at a wedding. I don't do dresses and I don't do bright colour. I do dark clothes. I have found this dress. I like it. Can I wear it to a wedding it says it's black but the tiny flowers all over it make it seem more red/ pink? I would wear it with ankle boots.

I like it for an autumn / winter wedding! Agree you need some fancier shoes though..

I like these and I think they come in other colours in store.

These are perfect! Thank you so much

My daughter 12 has had 5 episodes of vomiting in the last 16 days she's fine for a few days then it comes back and lasts 24 hours. She's had blood, urine and stool samples which came back fine any ideas? Thanks in advance xxx

@Carolynjayne That sounds bad but just to let you know you've posted on a thread about a dress in style and beauty. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

I'm wearing a very similar dress by Crew to a September wedding, I have a small pink balero type cardigan jacket from Hobbs that makes it a little more weddingy, having said that, weddings are so much more gentle with guest dresses nowadays

tammie49 · 12/08/2023 16:01

Absolutely - it doesn't even look black to me. I went to a wedding last year in a black dress with big red flower (think Flamenco Dancer). I've also done black with bright accessories.

PrinceYakimov · 12/08/2023 17:36

I am militant about the inappropriateness of black at weddings, and I would say not only that that is a lovely dress but that I would happily wear it to a wedding myself.

jamdonut · 12/08/2023 18:03

That's a very nice dress.
I don't know why people get so hung up on what colours to wear to a wedding! I wore a pink sequiny dress for my own wedding recently. No-one knew, and I didn't care that someone else was wearing the same colour!
Black is fine, in my opinion, anyway.

Mosaic123 · 12/08/2023 19:12

But if you don't like it for some reason when it arrives, have a look at Roman dresses online.

Angrywife · 12/08/2023 20:32

My MIL and DSM did, plain outfits, both black 🙄 I've often wondered if they were taking a stand to show they weren't happy with our union.

Ah well, +30yrs on, I hope they've got over it lol

I like it! Huge fan of late summer and autumn colours and styles.

Not sure about brown ankle.boots and bag tho- that might make it work wear. Good for getting more wear later on tho at less formal occasions.

I'd prob look for sandals, flat is fine and hair accessory in colours from the flowers. Doesn't have to be all the same shade. Could be a flower, fascinator, band, pretty clip or earrings. Depends on your hair and taste. Could do a clutch in a similar colour too.

If it's later in the autumn, a floppy hat in a plum shade could look great. Maybe a metallic cuff and rings in copper if so. Copper or plum shoes.

Loloj · 13/08/2023 20:46

It depends how you dress it. With some nice heels and bag plus some jewellery it will look more than suitable for a wedding. Then you can dress it down and wear it as a day dress - even with trainers - very versatile!

Rjh76 · 13/08/2023 20:51

I think it’s lovely!

SpringboksSocks · 13/08/2023 21:03

100% yes. Enjoy!

nettie434 · 13/08/2023 21:10

The dress and sandals look lovely for a wedding. I think the dress will also look great with your boots later on in the year.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 13/08/2023 21:35

I'd wear gold jewellery with that dress op. It's lovely.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 13/08/2023 21:36

Depends how much the bride and groom value pointless traditions like these. Red means you've slept weird the groom also.

Never knew this! Cripes 🤣

herbygarden · 13/08/2023 21:37

100% yes, lovely dress :)

AbacusAvocado · 10/08/2023 13:08

Back in my early 20s, I went to a wedding in a dress that was black with red cherries and green leaves, and it turned out the bride’s family was super traditional and thought I was telling everybody that I lost my cherry to the groom, was grieving the marriage, and was wishing them bad luck.

It was awkward. I have been very cautious about wedding dresses ever since!

But I think that kind of batshit reaction was weird even then.

Omg! 🙈🤣

Daffodilsandtuplips · 13/08/2023 21:49

I think it’s lovely, with the right accessories it’ll be fine. Not brown ankle boots though.

Doone21 · 14/08/2023 08:22

It's not black, it'll be fine

IndysMamaRex · 14/08/2023 10:39

…that’s dress isn’t black. It’s lovely & fine for a wedding but it’s a floral pattern dress, not black

ILoveMyCaravan · 14/08/2023 13:31

My mother wore black to
my wedding…
