Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

So I handed in my resignation today before I had a full on breakdown. I’ve never worked in such a toxic work environment in my life. An immediate weight has been lifted.

on the downside, I now probably cannot purchase all the beauty advent calendars I have in my cart until I find another job 😂

Peridot1 · 07/10/2023 12:20

Sounds like the best decision @StarryNightAddict. Fingers crossed for a great new job to keep you supplied with beauty advent calendars!

IndianSummer78 · 07/10/2023 12:31

I don't know how desperate you are for a job @StarryNightAddict but now is the time the shops recruit extra staff for Christmas. I've been in your situation, you've definitely done the right thing, something else always comes up.

MavisMcMinty · 07/10/2023 12:34

That’s a brave move, @StarryNightAddict - and fortune favours the brave. xx

StarryNightAddict · 07/10/2023 12:36

Thanks everyone. I was so stressed this week I haven’t eaten or slept, and was actually having nightmares about work on the hours I did manage to sleep.

I’m not desperate for a job yet as it was very well paid I managed to put away quite a bit, but good shout on the Christmas staff! I’ll look into some things! Right now I actually think I would love a low stress job stacking shelves or something where I don’t have to talk to other humans.

MavisMcMinty · 07/10/2023 12:39

I took early retirement because of similar work-induced stress. I lost 1/3 of my pension and lump sum for going 2 years early, and yes I regret the loss of money, but 2 more years would have killed me, melodramatic as that sounds. Thank goodness I had the option.

(I then blew my lump sum on skin care and cosmetics.)

StarryNightAddict · 07/10/2023 12:41

That doesn’t sound melodramatic at all @MavisMcMinty.

I know I haven’t given the appropriate notice period and will probably be penalised, but I literally couldn’t face going in there for even one more day.

IndianSummer78 · 07/10/2023 12:44

Get your CV dropped in along the high street this week, ask to speak to the manager/supervisor if you can 1) the minions won't necessarily know recruitment has started/is about to start 2) if the manager has met you, seen you are smart and not a weirdo then you've got a head start on all the other applications. Don't wait, by November recruitment could be over.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 07/10/2023 16:54

Good for you @StarryNightAddict . This difficult transition shall pass too but you will be better in your mental health. We are rooting for you.

PomRuns · 07/10/2023 18:48

@StarryNightAddict right decision - hope you find something wonderful soon.

Experiment627 · 08/10/2023 03:29

@StarryNightAddict well done for advocating for your well-being and sanity! It takes a lot to walk away.
Just a thought- if you do decide to target retail - maybe somewhere where they sell skincare AND have a great staff discount? 😉

I think the major retailers (in the UK) only accept online applications now.

I did my roots a week or so ago - really impressed with the colour result of the Schwarzkopf Oleo Intense.

On the empties front:

  • Wild deodorant: I have tried two scents now. Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt and Jasmine & Orange Blossom. Definitely prefer the former. Really worked to mask BO - infact worked better than some more conventional brands I have tried over the years. It is pricey but is a feel good product cos of the sustainability aspect. I am trying out Fussy now.

I’m sorry you were put in such a position @StarryNightAddict. Very pleased that you took the reins and chose yourself. I’ve been there and it’s rough. Just wanted to pop in. And say that sales jobs at Christmas can be pretty cutthroat also. (Unrealistic sales targets, etc.) I’ve done this before.

StarryNightAddict · 08/10/2023 08:29

In all that drama forgot my empties 🤣🤣

Frank body exfoliating scalp treatment didn’t help, won’t repurchase

Hismile red velvet toothpaste ok flavour but there’s others I liked more

bang’n body moisturiser didn’t do anything and too expensive

StarryNightAddict · 08/10/2023 23:45

So after another sleepless night I’ve decided I would actually like to put in a harassment complaint. I don’t know how it will go since I have already resigned, and I definitely do not want the job back, I would just like it formally written down somewhere.

Wish me luck. 😩

PomRuns · 09/10/2023 08:26

Lots of luck @StarryNightAddict and I hope you sleep easier soon.

Peridot1 · 09/10/2023 08:50

Good luck with it @StarryNightAddict. It might not be easy but at least it will give you the opportunity to feel heard.

CorneliaStreet · 09/10/2023 10:17

@StarryNightAddict Sounds like it was a toxic environment and you’re well out of it. Good luck with the complaint and hope you find a job that suits you better soon.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 10/10/2023 12:50

A few more empties:

Care + witch hazel toner: ok, did the job fine. Nothing special. Cheap. Does not smell great. However, skin felt clean after using it.

Aveeno body wash: a staple

Palmolive coconut and milk shower gel. Mentioned somewhere above. Ok job but too runny.

Liz earle gentle exfoliator sample: I liked it . Small grainy texture. Smells like eucalyptus. Would buy at some point.

Padington bath confetti. Ok for entertaining my DC in bathtime. Sticks to skin sometimes.

Deliplus balsamo facial. Didn’t use on my Dc as it is cumbersome to apply. Used it on my arms. Won’t buy again

Calcot spa sleep bath gel. Loved the smell. Similar to Denenes ahower gel. Great fragrance. Would RP

Elemis frangipani hand and nail balm. A friend gave it to me to try. Gteat smell, like Tiare polinesian flower, very exotic. Too thick and slippery for hands. Only used it at bedtime. Won’t RP

TBS oils of life intensive cream. Thank God it’s only a sample. Horrible smell and very thick cream. I don’t like it

Good luck @StarryNightAddict - you're doing the right thing

MidnightMeltdown · 11/10/2023 00:20

A few empties

76) Augustinus Bader The Cream Cleansing Gel - this didn't do a particularly good job at removing makeup, it didn't smell nice, it didn't last long at all, and the packaging is annoyingly heavy for a travel size - so it's not even useful for taking on holiday. I have no idea why this stuff is so pricey.

77) Clinique Lipstick in Cider Berry - this is years old. It was my favourite lipstick once upon a time, but I'd long forgotten about it. I don't think that they even make this shade anymore. Discovered it recently with a small amount left so decided to use it up!

78) Malin & Goetz Advanced Renewal Moisturiser - I like this moisturiser, but it didn't smell as fresh in the tube as it does in a pot.

79) L'Occitane Shower Oil - liked this. May RP at some point

Total for the year: 79/130

Ouai detox shampoo. I like it. Repurchased.
nou nou shampoo. Another like. Would be happy to get on an AC
Lumene Nordic essence. Was fine, nothing special.
Seated Queen cleanser - liked a lot. Took every scrap of make up off and not drying.
Aromatherapy Associates de stress oil. Nice fragrance.
L’occitane almond oil mini. Was ok.
mizani miracle milk. A freebie from Sephora. Just ok.
Molton Brown pink pepper shower gel. A favourite.

79/80 - I’ll shift my goal to 86. I’ve less than 30 unopened products now.
32 samples.

Heh, just coming to the end of several of those myself, @PomRuns ! We must subscribe to/buy many of the same boxes. I really like the Ouai products I’ve tried, although have no need to ever buy any hair stuff again for the rest of my life, as I only wash my hair once a week at most.

PomRuns · 11/10/2023 13:16

@MavisMcMinty these are from AC, beauty drop and a little Sephora freebie. But it sounds like I’d like your subscriptions. Which do you do?
I currently only do the Liberty drop.
