Mother of the groom outfit

My son is getting married next April in a older hotel (thatched roof, open fire, etc). It is a small affair (21 Inc them) and I need something to wear.

I'll be 46. I'm 5'5 and a size 12. Pear shaped. I want to wear a dress, because I live in jeans I'm struggling to get any idea.

Budget probably iro £150.

I want to look classy please.

As the wedding is not until April there’s plenty of time to bookmark things now and pick them up in the sales.

Dress + matching jacket is so Hyacinth Bucket.

Exactly what I thought. Its something my 97 year old Nan would wear. I'm really not the dress and matching jacket type.

Head to your local charity shops, we are always overrun with such outfits, matching jackets and all! There's some beautiful silk dresses in our branch currently, jackets to coordinate and whole outfit was under £20. Got worn once shoes too. In my town there's 8 charity shops though we get the best stuff!

Was the MOG last week, also a small wedding but on a tropical beach! As there were only 12 of us I tried to make sure the colours I wore blended in with the others. Hated the traditional outfits, wore this and felt amazing.

Next have a sale on at the moment. Online they do quite a few brands, including several companies mentioned above. Maybe worth having a look.

As was I given that her style is more my mother's than mine as she is her age range. Not something I really need to consider.

DM is nearly 80 and would no more wear the classic MOB/MOG dress and jacket combo than fly to the moon. DStepM would/did. It's a matter of taste, not age.

I just checked a couple of sights and they look dreadful on the models, but I have a Saturday dress which I looked and felt fabulous in so maybe it's just about the right pick.

@Toooldtoworry no stay true to size on VW. A 42 is a 10, 44 is a 12. Some are sized S, M etc depending on the line. I'd say err on the smaller size if you're between though, they can be pretty drapey, depending on the style.
The corset dresses are amazing, work really well if you're a pear shape, as the pull you in at the waist then are less fitted on the hips.
I can send a pic of the one I wore by DM if that helps
