My son is getting married next April in a older hotel (thatched roof, open fire, etc). It is a small affair (21 Inc them) and I need something to wear.

I'll be 46. I'm 5'5 and a size 12. Pear shaped. I want to wear a dress, because I live in jeans I'm struggling to get any idea.

Budget probably iro £150.

I want to look classy please.

Why not a matching dress and jacket ? Confused

Sound MUCH nicer than the yellow one linked to.

I'm not a matching dress and jacket type tbh. Plus my Nan (98 day before wedding) and Mum will be wearing that and I'm only 46.

What colours would you like OP? Length of dress? Sleeves? Do you think you'll want a jacket or cover up of some kind? Hopefully we can then adviser on something that you like and feel good in, not a generic MOG outfit.

Good point. Its an afternoon wedding, likely to be in a hotel/barn conversion. B&G in their 20s. Brides parents late 60s/early 70s. I'm 46 and Grooms Mum. Grooms Dad is best man and suits will be Peaky Blinder esque. Rest of the guests age range between 98 and 25. No children.

Afternoon wedding. Then dinner (wedding breakfast) then cake and drinks and home.

Clothes wise I don't do mainstream usually which is why I am struggling because I like Vivian Westwood type but won't have the money once the wedding is covered.

@thedevilinablackdress I'll pretty much wear anything but pastels because I'm very dark haired and pale skinned and they don't look right.

FWIW if I (same shape and size and a few years older) had to get a killer dress for a wedding tomorrow for that budget I'd go to Ted Baker
https://www.tedbaker.com/uk/p/Womens/Clothing/Dresses/IMMIA-Halterneck-Swing-Maxi-Dress-With-Self-Belt-Bright-Orange/268434-BRT-ORANGE
Or maybe this from Jigsaw because I love the pattern so much and love a cowl neck.

That Ted Baker one is right up my street

I'd try Vinted or eBay for Vivienne Westwood if that's what you love. I wore a second hand VW dress to my step sons wedding and felt fabulous

Coast have a great wedding section within your budget, split up into all the categories. Enjoy the day!

Thank you to the PP who shared the Nancy Mac link, I hadn't come across that site and they have some lovely dresses. You may have solved my outfit dilemma for a wedding next year. 😊

OP, I would try to find out what sort of outfit the MOB is wearing and what colours / style the B&G are looking at so that you can be coordinated both in colour and in level of formalness (if that's even a word). You don't have to match but it might help to narrow down your options.

Another tip would be to get a trusted friend to take some photos of you in your intended outfit. Presumably you'll be in lots of the wedding photos and you'll get a better idea of how you'll look on the day compared just looking in the mirror.

The MOB is 20 years older than me. There is NO way I'm worrying what she is wearing 🤣

My mum (mother of the bride) recently got her dress from Jacques Vert. I'd say most of their dresses would be appropriate so might be a good place to start.

What about this? But not necessarily in navy (I prefer brighter colours) it’s from Lipsy

Ironically I got rid of a very similar dress from Lipsy about 6 months ago ... jinxed myself 🤣

Head to your local charity shops, we are always overrun with such outfits, matching jackets and all! There's some beautiful silk dresses in our branch currently, jackets to coordinate and whole outfit was under £20. Got worn once shoes too. In my town there's 8 charity shops though we get the best stuff!

Do you have to go up a size in VW? I've not had one of her dresses before.

I've had a quick gander and they look right up my street. Some slightly out of budget but I do have a bit of time to save a bit more so might be able to stretch.

B&G have asked me to go with them to make final decision on their venue today. I've told them it's their choice entirely but I think they're overwhelmed as they want to marry before the great grandparents and they're late 90's.

If you like Rixo and Vivienne Westwood then go and have a look on Vestiaire/Vinted/eBay

Lots of stuff worn once for a wedding and suddenly in your price range.

Maybe decide on the venue and then base the dress on what would suit that. But there’s loads of sales at the mo (Vampires Wife and MaxMara Weekend have big discounts)

I heard that Vampire's Wife may be in a bit of trouble so there may be some big discounts there.

I saw this one. I don't know why my phone browser thinks I'm in the US

Faithful the Brand

A friend of mine wore something almost identical to this (might have been that one I'm not sure) to her son's wedding last year. She wore it with fushia pink sandals and fascinator and looked a million dollars.

The floral version is nice too.

@Theblacksheepandme - the OP gave a budget and you've suggested something more than 3 times more. Sometimes Mumsnet astonishes me. We're in a COL crisis, don't be so insensitive

Is there a reason why you decided to filter me out when other people suggested dresses over the budget? I mentioned in my post that it was over budget. I also thought it might give OP an idea and then she could look for similar on budget? Isn't that what the highstrreet does?

It's funny because I also replied to @Crystals35 that I didn't like her suggestion and quite a lot of people told her it was not a good suggestion including OP but she decided to just reply to me too.

OP responded to me and did like what I showed her which would suggest what type of look she is looking for.

Apologies for making you so upset.
