Where to buy "old lady" nightie

DionneInCanada · 14/07/2023 19:25

I think that's the best way to sum up what I'm after for my 90 year old mum. Her request "to have a decent nightie for when I inevitably have to go into hospital" 😮

I looked at M&S and John Lewis online but nothing right.

So requirements are
below knee length but not too long
Short sleeves (not straps)
Preferably not plain white.
Not too big/gaping around the neck and chest
No itchy lace trim

Any ideas where to look please 😊

My mum gets hers from Bonsoir.

Bearpawk · 14/07/2023 19:46

None of these any good?

Landsend.

Damart do have some nice nighties. Matalan and Cotton Traders are also worth a look.
The White Company’s nightwear is beautiful. Also - the Able Label range is worth knowing about - adaptive clothing.

This one is from M&SNavy, short sleeved

I actually just got my mum that for a hospital stay. It's lovely, soft and comfortable. I want one now!

GettingStuffed · 14/07/2023 20:04

If you'd mentioned it a few weeks ago I could have given you some. My MiL bought hers from a Market locally.

Fridaysgirl17 · 14/07/2023 20:22

I got some lovely ones for my mom on yours clothing & oxendales she needed them for hospital also & her care home, they were perfect, good length,no lace or anything but pretty

Whatsnewpussyhat · 14/07/2023 20:22

Try Matalan.

DionneInCanada · 14/07/2023 20:23

Thanks for all the great recommendations and suggestions. Really helpful.

BIWI I put old lady in the title so people knew roughly what I was wanting. If I'd just put nightie recommendations wanted people would inevitably NOT have read the OP and I would get people giving me recommendations for fancy nightwear for a weekend away.
Equally I added the extra detail so people didn't waste their time suggesting nightwear with spaghetti straps, lace etc etc.
So my post was to be as clear as possible. And my mother, at 90, is old. That's a fact, not ageist. And most helpful responders know that.

I'm in my late 30s and am tempted by a few of these.

James Meade are worth a try - online or they also do a catalogue

Notquitethere60 · 14/07/2023 20:41

Powellcraft do cotton nighties in the traditional style.

ConvallariaMuguet · 14/07/2023 20:45

My mother (86) likes Lands End for nighties.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 14/07/2023 20:46

My mum likes Damart, Lands End and Bon Marche.

cathcath2 · 14/07/2023 20:56

And I totally get where you are coming from. My mum has always bought nighties from M&S and they just don't sell what she wants anymore. I had to run to Bonmarche when she was feeling really unwell as she was worried she would have to go to hospital and didn't have any decent nighties.

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 14/07/2023 20:58

Just asked my Nana who has similar taste and she tells me Bon Marche is where it's at.

Please stop with the ageism.

You described the kind of thing you're looking for. There was no need to add the additional 'explanation'.

What are you on about?

HowNice23 · 14/07/2023 20:59

The local school uniform shop near me does exactly what you're after! If you are in the west midlands it's called A Oakes in Smethwick otherwise I don't think they do anything as modern as online shopping!!!

Blueuggboots · 14/07/2023 21:01

Marks do nightshirts that are long t shirts? They come to just above my knee but I'm 5'9"....

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 14/07/2023 21:01

Asda are pretty good and often have deals on, 2 for £12 that kind of thing
