No idea why, but i didn't like wearing them as a child at school so i think it just stuck..

I am 48, slim, but have very white legs and a slight wobble as not entirely toned. And of course this is no big deal, but i dont exist in a vacuum and old self esteem issues die hard!

Anyone else like this? Do you just say sod it and wear them? Do you tan them (fake or real)? I am not after perfection and dont even know what that is, but am a little bit hesitant. I have a couple of nice pairs and as the weather gets hotter i just want to throw them on with a nice top and get out there.

I know no one else cares or is even looking, it's just my own mind really.

I am the same OP, except I have big legs with fat knees. I actually don't mind my calves and ankles, it's just ny knees. My thighs are also large but quite toned

CherryPosset · 06/06/2023 15:06

I mean whenever I go out lately, or every summer really there are women everywhere of all shapes and sizes and ages wearing shorts. This is great, but the most obvious thing they all have in common is a very deep tan.
Since we are all so aware of UV dangers, I wonder where they are all getting it as i cant say it looks fake. I love the look of a tan but am wary of it.

Am the same age as you. While I haven't worn a short skirt for quite some time, I love wearing tailored shorts when it is warm.

Although I tan easily, I'm pale most of the time. I don't use fake tan.

larger toned thighs sound great to me! Mine are weedy/average and look like ive been in bed with consumption for 5 years Grin

I tend to wear short flared skirts instead. I always think I look like a guide leader in shorts.

ShandaLear · 06/06/2023 15:09

Shorts are the best, most comfortable, clothes in the land. I use Dove self tanner to take the blue glow off my legs early in the season, but after a few weeks I don’t bother.

TheMurderousGoose · 06/06/2023 15:10

I think that knee length bermuda style shorts can be much harder to pull off than shorter shorts. I don't what it is they do, the way they encase the entire upper leg perhaps, but knee length shorts are tricky.

CherryPosset · 06/06/2023 15:10

So are you all just catching the sun?
Where i live most people just lounge about in the garden baking to death, but in general everyone says it is harmful. It is a confusing world!

My legs are not my best feature and I avoided shorts for years. I no longer care now and wear them if I want, people have the option not to look

Mochacino · 06/06/2023 15:14

OP I shouldn’t laugh at your consumption legs but I am!!

I say wear the shorts. I agree Bermudas are hard to wear. I like a shorter short, but not a short-short if that makes any sense🤣 Goodmove at M&S do nice cottony ones. I love them. They’re mid thigh. Very flattering and comfy. I couldn’t be bothered with fake tan or any of that jazz so I just get the pins out.

Kimchikeffir · 06/06/2023 15:15

I wear shorts and my white/blue legs mean my family can easily locate me.

I'm a scaredy-cat when it comes to shorts, I can only wear them abroad! Here, I'm just stupidly self-conscious about myself. I have really cool denim ones that look great on me that I'd love to wear in London but for some reason I just can't! I didn't grow up wearing shorts, and I think that's why. Thanks for giving me a complex, over-strict mum. 🙄

SirChenjins · 06/06/2023 15:20

My legs are covered in spider veins do no, I don’t wear them. I did succumb once on holiday in Florida (horrible place imo!) but was aware of a few looks - I took the approach no-one would see me again, so what the heck. If I didn’t have them I’d wear shorts, irrespective of how toned or otherwise my legs were. I’d fake tan too, but only to take the ghost-white look off them.

CherryPosset · 06/06/2023 15:27

I think my shape is ok, not perfect but who cares? I also have veins and dont seem to care about that either. With me i think it's the paleness, which i am ashamed to admit as my intelligence can't override it!

A bit of Dove can do wonders but i loathe the upkeep! Every time i shower i have to restart, uurgh.

im sorry to hear that, i cant imagine caring so much about another person's ordinary human legs enough to stare at them. Says more about them i suppose Sad

I'm mid 60s and have decent toned legs ( and long...35inch inside leg)..they are pure white.
I wear shorts in the garden and if walking but wouldn't wear them to the shops

See, I've heard this said before, but as the owner of chubby knees, I don't see this....

I wear denim knee-length that come down far enough to cover the wobbly knees (which I can't do anything about?! The rest of me is toned 😩) and plenty of Skinny Tan Body Glow for the afore-mentioned blue-reduction... I

ToBeOrNotToBee · 06/06/2023 15:36

I have longstanding image issues with my legs stemming from a childhood accident leaving them scarred, and a joint disorder which means they bend a bit funny.
Of course I think they look terrible.

Then I realised that no one else did. My legs are perfectly fine, and you know what, I'm a cyclist, my legs are pretty amazing when you consider the miles they've covered.

I'm now rather proud of them.

RaspberryCloud · 06/06/2023 15:37

Whoops posted too soon.

The prospect of exposing the wobble-knee is not appealing!

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2023 15:38

I am fat and age 60 have pink wobbly legs. I wear shorts in the summer as give no shits what anyone else thinks. As long as I am cool and comfy I don't care. Life is too short to angst about this sort of stuff. Put on your shorts and enjoy the summer.

CherryPosset · 06/06/2023 15:41

Im just at a point where I cant be bothered about imperfections, which definitely used to inhibit me when young.
Im bothered about the whiteness (but cant say why), but the wobble, veins, stuff like that just doesnt bother me anymore. I look ok, and i doubt anyone cares.
I would love those larger, rock solid thighs a lot of people complain about, too.

As for the over 60 lady with long toned legs - I would go to the shops! A nice pair with a lovely top or longer summer weight kimono cardi is just lovely, relaxed, appropriate. So long as the shorts arent see through or whatever. I love this idea!

Yes! As women we are supposed to cower in shame arent we? Oh who will forgive us for exposing our real bodies....bollox to that!

Yeah, keeping the tan topped up on pale legs is a pita. I use Bondi Sands Aero in light/medium which is really good and keeps the colour for a few days (long enough for summer here in Edinburgh!)

Sgtmajormummy · 06/06/2023 15:44

I’ve been slowly slowly losing weight over the last few years and a lot of it has gone from my thighs (don’t ask me how, wish I’d known how in my 30s and 40s).
The other day I looked in the mirror and saw myself in my shorts&T-shirt PJs. Not a bad silhouette, I thought, with the trouser legs sticking out beyond the body. And no chub rub, not that it’s a problem any more.

That type of silhouette can be found in loose playsuits (woven fabric) or single sportswear combos (jersey). Skorts are a also quite popular at the moment.
So I shall be picking up a few of those for this summer, and damn the spider veins!
