A change in diet/lifestyle? Or a product?

Rapidly approaching 40 and am trying to take a bit more care over my skin. I always wear spf but other than that am a bit overwhelmed
by the range of options!

Tretinoin. I use skin and me but there’s dermatologica that I think is a bit cheaper. My formula also contains azaleic acid and niacinimide. It’s 24.99 a month and I use a cheap ish cleanser and moisturiser.

Hoolihan · 14/04/2023 22:41

Tretinoin, no question.

Desmondo2021 · 14/04/2023 22:42

Spironolactone!

KILM · 14/04/2023 22:53

Drinking loads of water!

LizzieSiddal · 14/04/2023 22:55

What does Tretinoin do for your skin?

DaisyJones1 · 14/04/2023 22:57

Retinol (and sleep)

Flockameanie · 14/04/2023 23:01

Menopause!
My skin hated the hormonal fluctuations of peri menopause. Once mg periods finally stopped (at 47) my skin started looking the best is ever has my adult life. Silver linings and all that…

You won't like hearing this, but quitting alcohol did wonder for my skin. Took 10 years off my face!

ThePoshUns · 14/04/2023 23:12

Sunblock

Nolosomi · 14/04/2023 23:12

Stopping drinking apart from the odd social event has knocked years off me!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 14/04/2023 23:16

15 years ago, stoping smoking instantly improved my skin (aged 30). Now, tretonoin from Skin&Me has made a big difference. It is £25 a month but really works and I use a cheap salicylic acid cleanser and a generic hyuralonic acid moisturiser.

Throwncrumbs · 14/04/2023 23:17

Formaldehyde

WaxingGibbon · 14/04/2023 23:20

Tretinoin at night. Morpheus 8 treatments.
I also use spf daily because I believe it will make a long term difference, although I don't see any difference day to day.

Christmascracker0 · 14/04/2023 23:20

Hydrafacials - expensive but so worth it.

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 14/04/2023 23:21

Water. 3l a day.

Lydia777 · 14/04/2023 23:34

Tret, like all the pps:) Also, Corsyx BHA Blackhead clearing treatment (Not just good for blackheads - gives an unbeatable glow!)

Isabelle70 · 15/04/2023 07:23

I have/did have type 2 rosacea and Dermatica has changed my skin so much. I wish I had found it years ago as I have always suffered and nothing ever really worked on treating the acne that it was thought to be.

My skin hates tret.

My LED mask off amazon, it’s a beauty star one I got for £50 years ago and I credit it with saving me from scarring when the implant gave me cystic acne and I was waiting for accutane to be prescribed.

MintJulia · 15/04/2023 07:32

Sleep
Stopping drinking
Taking up running, so my pores get thoroughly opened and flushed through

I have the skin I wanted as a teen.

YourMagicSwirlingShip · 15/04/2023 07:32

Giving up booze. Massive difference.

Rainbowshit · 15/04/2023 09:42

Corsyx BHA for me too. Makes such a difference.

AbsolutePixels · 15/04/2023 13:01

Botox and a good full coverage foundation!

(Also sleep, minimal booze and exercise where you get the blood pumping really helps).

AbsolutePixels · 15/04/2023 13:04

Use BHA too. I think it's really under-rated for aging skin. Just seems to lighten, brighten and tighten everything up, plus it doesn't make your skin as sun sensitive as AHA.

Deathraystare · 15/04/2023 14:30

@Throwncrumbs ·
Formaldehyde

Oh Behave! Mind you, that was in Anne French cleanser, wasn't it.I used it and did not realise until a mumsnetter mentioned it!

With me, the answer is happiness and contentment. sleep better (usually have a shit sleep pattern). I was at the hairdressers and looked at me complexion in the mirror and it looked good. Clear and bright (might be a magic mirror!). I already drink enough fluid as I am diabetic so always thirsty!

Wiccan · 15/04/2023 14:44

Skincare routine day & night , no alcohol, 2 litres of water a day ,plenty of sleep . SPF 50 every day .
