A change in diet/lifestyle? Or a product?

Rapidly approaching 40 and am trying to take a bit more care over my skin. I always wear spf but other than that am a bit overwhelmed
by the range of options!

Oh Behave! Mind you, that was in Anne French cleanser, wasn't it.I used it and did not realise until a mumsnetter mentioned it!

With me, the answer is happiness and contentment. sleep better (usually have a shit sleep pattern). I was at the hairdressers and looked at me complexion in the mirror and it looked good. Clear and bright (might be a magic mirror!). I already drink enough fluid as I am diabetic so always thirsty!

I agree with happiness and contentment 🙂

Treat and sunscreen

ModeWeasel · 15/04/2023 15:14

Niacinimide, tinted SPF.

shard5 · 15/04/2023 15:18

Going dairy free really improves my skin. I have very little dairy in my diet anyway but a few days of cereal and cow's milk really effects my skin.

AutisticLegoLover · 15/04/2023 15:18

Clinique 3 step. I've never really drunk alcohol except once or twice a year and I don't smoke. I'm 46 and my skin has been great since using the 3 step.

barbrahunter · 15/04/2023 15:21

My skin can't tolerate tretinoin but I use Vit C serum plus ferrulic acid, Lactic acid 10% and Q10 serum. It makes a tremendous difference to the appearance of my skin. I also don't drink, get lots of sleep and wear sunscreen every day.

BettySweaty · 15/04/2023 15:24

Dermalogica and sleep. Massive difference.

zampheta · 15/04/2023 15:46

Exercise, sleep and hydration. Tret helps with acne and contributes to my good complexion no doubt. I use it minimally now after a break.
I'm not old enough for wrinkles though it hasn't helped my sister with those, and she is a long term retin a user.

zampheta · 15/04/2023 15:47

Paula's Choice bha a couple of times a week

thelittlestbird · 15/04/2023 17:13

Half a decade of Veganism, 3l of water a day and no booze!

I can tell you what has a really bad effect on my skin - sugar and caffeine. Try to limit those as much as possible.

ScreenPrinting · 15/04/2023 17:19

Cutting down sugar
Double cleansing, second cleanse with Emma Hardie balm
Less booze

StraightHairDonCare · 15/04/2023 17:25

No alcohol

DeclineandFall · 15/04/2023 17:27

Tretinoin. I always used retinol products and thought my skin was great. Took the plunge after threads on here and the difference is amazing. I don't need half the other serums I used to use. Plus decent sunscreen. And water. I don't drink so booze isn't an issue. It def didnt help when I did drink.

MidlifeCrisisInTheShires · 15/04/2023 17:31

Tretinoin makes the rest of skincare cosmetics look like homeopathic money-swindling BS. But unfortunately not all skins can handle it.

Everything else depends on whether your skin is dry or oily spots prone. Dry skin can make one look a bit older and make fine lines look deeper so a good moisturiser, hydration and not drinking alcohol can make big difference.

KnitFastDieWarm · 15/04/2023 17:37

Water, lots of fresh air and walking, and being a bit fat (fills out the face). In terms of products, a good retinol at night and factor 50 every day. I am 35 and am frequently mistaken for a decade younger.

HeadacheEarthquake · 15/04/2023 17:50

Don't laugh.. been using L'Oréal day and night cream for years with okay results until this year. Started using baby oil... suddenly I've got even bright skin, wrinkles lessening, makeup staying on, I even got IDed last week Shock

Brewskipa · 15/04/2023 17:54

Opened this knowing the overwhelming majority would be saying tret 😂 and rightly so!

I’ve recently perfected my regime for my very dry sensitive skin with rosacea -

morning is cerave hydrating oil cleanser and super facialist vitamin d micropolish, followed by weleda skin food light.

evening is inkey list oat balm cleanser and then the cerave oil cleanser, corsyx snail mucin, tret (every two or three nights) and the original weleda skin food.

For the first time in my life my skin is glowing every day!

mackthepony · 15/04/2023 18:59

No sugar

No booze

Loadsa water

Loadsa sleep

Low carb, loadsa veg

overthinkersanonnymus · 15/04/2023 19:08

Is Tretinoin better than retinol? I have quite dry skin so fine lines are ruining my face 😫

Bluelightbaby · 15/04/2023 19:12

Dermalogica was way to harsh on my skin and made it worse. I’ve started using Cetaphil on advice of the lady who does my facials. My skin is so much better !

plus wearing minimal make up and washing face two times a day

Bluelightbaby · 15/04/2023 19:12

Oh and drinking lots and lots of water

I love weleda skin food too. I use it at night and my skin always feels so well hydrated in the morning.

Going to try that snail mucus stuff next as I rate their BHA

HermioneWeasley · 15/04/2023 19:30

Niacinimide

EggyBreads · 15/04/2023 19:44
