Getting married in 2 weeks and no dress

So for various reasons my husband and I had a celebrant wedding which I hated but ticked all the boxes for everyone else….. we are now doing the legal part in secret, just the 2 of us and I am SO happy and excited - but I have nothing to wear!

My original dress was big, expensive, chosen by the kids and gave me sequin scars. I promised myself for this legal part I would wear something that made me happy….. but turns out that’s a hard brief to fill.

I’m a size 16 which huge boobs and belly. I am only 5ft 2 and hate the way I look to be honest.

I originally wanted something none bridal in a bright colour, then I was toying with jeans and trainers, and now I’m wondering if I want to wear a more boho / relaxed wedding dress seeing as I hated mine so much first time and this would be a chance to be the kind of bride I wanted to be?

Can anyone help me in any way, because at this rate I’m going to be messing up my secret special wedding that the thought of kept me going during the rubbish first wedding!

That phase 8 dress is lovely. I wore a loose fitting ivory dress from phase 8 for my wedding.

Perhaps something like this? And you could swap the belt out for something else - I have a few of these dresses in various colours and they are super flattering for bigger boobs and tummy, especially with a full petticoat underneath

If you want to go non-wedding then Diane von Fustenburg dresses are fabulous and would likely suit your shape

I definitely need a bra unfortunately. I’m 36HH and they would be by my knees in a strapless dress!!

Im going to order the phase 8 one, but also keep looking - I have realised I keep coming back to wedding dresses rather than coloured ones though, which has at least helped me realise that might be what I want?

Because no one knows we are getting married, I promise to show you the finished dress as it won’t out me!

Op the phase eight is lovely but try the next size up too just in case the fitting is on the small side
it is a lovely dress , very romantic, and pretty x

What about something like this? Some of these dresses are what mother of the brides would wear not someone getting married in their prime!

John Lewis has a variety of Monsoon wedding dresses in the right size, just not that one…

Dressshelp · 03/03/2023 21:28

Oooh I really like this! Going to order it to try now - will need to be really disciplined about returning what doesn’t suit me, I’m crap at that part!

I am a similar build and I would go for something like this, with some Spanx to help with any lumps and bumps.

Esska shoes in gold, headband and a quirky I do clutch.

Can I be rude and ask what shape you are? Which parts of your body do you love/hate? Do you go in and out (hourglass) or are you more of an apple shape?
There will be something perfect for you!

Florabelle · 03/03/2023 21:41

There’s a few other nice ones on the Needle and Thread bridal section that you may like. Wish we had a pic of you to help more!!

Dressshelp · 03/03/2023 21:56

I got lost on the needle and thread site - I love so many of those dresses! I keep coming back to this one but it’s sequintastic and I hate sequins and they were the Bain of my life on our other wedding day! I think my husband is expecting something more traditional too? He’s just said he wants what I’m wearing to be a surprise which is another added pressure now! We are going to hotel afterwards, and I’m quite conscious I’ll be wandering around dressed like a bride?!

in terms of what I look like - I’m short and fat with big boobs and tummy 😂😂 I’m a size 16, 34HH boobs and 5ft 2. I think I have a pretty face, and look younger than I really am - long dark hair. Just the body that’s been broken by kids and time! I’ll try find a photo of my original dress but block out my face.

OP posts:
Dressshelp · 03/03/2023 22:03

This was my dress before it was altered to have a modesty panel put in and loads taken off the length.

I let the kids choose it for me, but it was more bridal and pouffy then I would have chosen and everything chaffed after about an hour of wearing it!

What about something like this from Molby the label? They customise and make to order too!

I was size 18 and 7 months pregnant when I got married in a ghost dress. How about this?
