I've caught the ear piercing bug and can't decide what to get done next. I currently have 3 lobe on my left and 4 lobe and tragus done on my right. Looking for inspiration.
Please show me your beautiful ears ☺️

@FunkyMonks do you think it's worth persevering with the pain?
it was doing so well, almost forgot it was there so didn't expect this and the pain. is it fairly common for this to happen? would you recommend giving the gp a ring or just continue with the spray?
so many questions, sorry!!

FunkyMonks · 14/04/2023 20:40

@popgoesperfection

Currently my rook piercing has been playing up I think that's due to either myself accidentally bumping it in my sleep or knocking it and making the bar move up so I feel your pain.

In the past I was quick to take out piercings that weren't healing quickly or having a few issues.
But at moment I'm trying to be more patient myself and cleaning when they need to be cleaned if there is anything around the jewellery rather than jabbing at it twice a day.
As that can cause it to become more angry and irritated.

Sounds daft really when people say leave it alone don't touch it because everyone's automatic reaction is to keep cleaning and messing around with it.

See how you get on tonight usually my irritation last a few hours and then by morning it's fine again if yours isn't and it's still swollen and hot it might be worth seeing drs in case you need antibiotics.

Don't put anything moist against it and if you do use saline spray make sure to dry it afterwards as that will cause issues if it's left wet.

But defiantly try keeping the hair pinned back from it and not sleep on it easier said than done I know I've woken up a few times having rolled over onto mine.

Swiftbushome · 14/04/2023 20:42

I think if it's worse tomorrow I'd potentially try and get it looked at by a pharmacist maybe? It might need to be checked in Urgent Care for some antibiotics but hopefully not. I'd have thought the piercer would know if it was something to worry about. Def don't take out the earring though.

thankyou for your advice @FunkyMonks

i'm new to the piercing world and i admit i do panic a bit when things go wrong. luckily i always wear my hair up and i'll try my best to sleep on the opposite side. i'll see how i get on tonight and hopefully it will have eased a bit by morning. i'm going to take some paracetamol now and take some tablets up to bed with me tonight. i've probably twiddled it without thinking which has caused bacteria to get in.

popgoesperfection · 14/04/2023 20:46

thanks @Swiftbushome
i could try boots pharmacy if it's still swollen tomorrow.

FunkyMonks · 14/04/2023 21:11

@popgoesperfection I'm the same it helps my husband has multiple ear piercings so he's the calm one and I get him to help me out with any issues I have.
Hopefully it will be fine in next day or two for you.
I think some people are super lucky to have no issues and then some of us just have the odd issue or two while trying to heal them.

popgoesperfection · 14/04/2023 21:18

you don't realise how painful such a small hole can be do you @FunkyMonks !!
right now i'm jealous of the lucky ones 😂

Ratatatatatouille · 14/04/2023 21:20

It’s very swollen and red so could be an infection. You tend to know by the pain level. If you get to the point where you can’t bear for your hair to even touch it, I’d say it’s infected, regardless of heat / discharge.

popgoesperfection · 15/04/2023 01:07

Woken up by the throbbing pain again, checked on ear and still very swollen and red/angry looking 😞 Going to contact drs in morning, i'm almost certain it's infected.

Swiftbushome · 15/04/2023 07:31

Good luck @popgoesperfection hope it gets sorted quickly

Ratatatatatouille · 15/04/2023 07:47

It’ll take a couple of days for antibiotics to work but it should reduce the pain quite quickly. Good luck.

popgoesperfection · 15/04/2023 09:55

thankyou!! i've managed to speak to a dr and sent a photo over, she's prescribed antibiotics and suggested a topical cream.

FunkyMonks · 15/04/2023 10:16

Glad you've gotten antibiotics and cream to help hopefully that will sort it out couple of days.

Swiftbushome · 15/04/2023 11:04

Oh thank goodness. Hope it feels better very soon. Fwiw I think next time you see your piercer I'd mention this to them. Telling you it was just irritated was obviously incorrect and I'm sure they wouldn't want to make the same mistake again.

popgoesperfection · 15/04/2023 11:59

@Swiftbushome i'll definitely tell them i've had to have antibiotics. maybe having the bar changed irritated or more.

Helendegenerate · 15/04/2023 12:42

Some lovely displays in all those photos!! I only have lobe
piercings. The first was aged 15 and many years later I went for a second lobe piercing a bit further up but the man who did it placed them far too close to the ones I already have. Am still pissed off to this day.

FunkyMonks · 15/04/2023 20:36

Well I could cry since having the bars downsized about a month ago on both my helix and conch they have felt rather too close no movement what so ever.
Noticed on my conch piercing build up of gunk couldn't get to it due to no space either side and the type of gem I had so me thinking I could just take the front off clean it and then swap the front with the original plain ball instead 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ what ended up happening was I couldn't get it back on or the bar back in it's swollen and bleeding and earliest I can be seen by piercer is 24th guess I've lost my conch piercing 😭🤦🏻‍♀️.

I'm getting the bar swapped to longer one again for my helix so that I don't lose that and who knows see if they can re pierce the conch but I'm not holding my breath.

At this rate I wish I'd just bought myself a really fancy expensive septum ring for all that I've paid out lately on ear piercings.

popgoesperfection · 15/04/2023 20:42

oh no @FunkyMonks can your husband manage to carefully pop it back through? how long has it been out now?

FunkyMonks · 15/04/2023 21:03

It's too swollen since this mid morning 🤦🏻‍♀️ he did have a look at it but said it's angry looking so I'm not chancing it and risking infection.

Swiftbushome · 15/04/2023 21:08

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that. Is there any chance you could you get an appointment somewhere else earlier maybe? If you could get in first thing tomorrow would there be more chance of saving it? I hope it's fixable

OP posts:
popgoesperfection · 15/04/2023 21:13

oh that's a shame. like you say though it's not worth chancing an infection and it been more sore than it already is. how can a small hole cause so much pain and stress!!?

Swiftbushome · 17/04/2023 09:36

How are you both doing today @FunkyMonks and @popgoesperfection?

OP posts:
FunkyMonks · 17/04/2023 10:32

Well I'm gutted looks like I've lost the conch piercing and it will need to be re pierced 🤦🏻‍♀️ my husband tried to push it back in last night but it's already closed over at the front and only got in a little bit at the back shocked how quickly that closed over one min there was a hole and next just a little red dot now like a scab 🥺.
Earliest I can get in with piercer is 25th April they are currently off sick and have a load of people they need to reschedule just gutted as it had been 4 months since having it and only ended up trying to sort myself because the bar seemed too short and the gem at front and bar at the back was collecting too much crap I couldn't clean off it.
I am going to ask them to change the bar in my helix as well or at least check that over to make sure the same ain't happening to that.

I am 60/40 whether I even bother getting the conch re done now as much as I loved it I don't want to keep wasting money if it's not going to heal and I also don't want to risk the two I've still got that are still healing the helix and rook in same ear and I can't have the conch done in the other because that would disturb my sleep would mean sleeping on my back or buying those pillows which again just adds to costs stuck in a predicament.

Swiftbushome · 17/04/2023 10:37

Oh no I'm really sorry. I'd be gutted too. 4 bloody months :(
If you think maybe the conch won't heal could you do a slightly different spot maybe? Like inner if you were doing outer previously or vice versa? Or maybe a daith?

OP posts:
FunkyMonks · 17/04/2023 10:44

I would love a Daith but I don't think I've the correct autonomy for one.
I'm going to see what the piercer says I may leave it and wait for my other two to heal helix I had done same time as conch so that's already 4 months the rook was the newest so only just over a month old all in the same ear.
Just gutted.
