Bustier for office Christmas party

astronewt · 19/11/2022 09:40

I'm planning to get this bustier from Zara for my office Christmas party, which is black tie/cocktail dress code. (It will come back into stock in time. It WILL.)

What would you pair it with? I'm thinking chandelier earrings not unlike the model's and maybe some wide-leg velvet trousers in a contrasting tone? Shoes? I don't want to wear heels if I can help it.

Love the bustier, not keen on the shoes. How about these?

Sorry @urbanbuddha , I'm going for something very specific with the shoes, and I like mine better. Even though I wish they cost what yours do 🙂

Very surprise someone said it was revealing, I guess if you consider showing your shoulders as revealing then I guess it is. Past that it’s quite conservative.

silvercurls · 20/11/2022 10:49

I googled .....embellished flat mules uk......some stunners.
Love your outfit so far

Found these very affordable green earrings!

M&S, who knew? They are fab.

UglyModernWindows · 21/11/2022 15:49

OP - I loce that bustier 😍 I never usually shop at Zara but that is a thing of beauty. I’ve now registered for a stock update too! Thanks Grin

balalake · 21/11/2022 16:40

Love the earrings but it does seem a lot of expense as I have mentioned for an office party.

Iamthewombat · 21/11/2022 16:54

Do you think that the OP should be giving her £59.99 to the poor and needy?

NashvilleQueen · 21/11/2022 17:03

The OP is all set on the bustier. She knows whether it's suitable for her own work so and if she will feel comfortable in it. She's just asking for ideas on trousers and shoes.

I think any slim leg trousers would be nice. I like the green earrings. I'm not 100% on the shoes but I can see they're very glam and match your look

Love the earrings but it does seem a lot of expense as I have mentioned for an office party.

People ask for ideas for a whole outfit for a one-off party, wedding, christening, date, whatever on here all the time. If you would never buy a single item for one single party, rock on with your frugal self, but buying something new for a Christmas party is hardly a rare occurrence, hence why shops promote a shitton of partywear at this time of year.

I reckon I might even fit in a second wear for drinks or a date night some time. I'm reckless like that.

I am honestly also a bit bemused at the idea that being covered from head to foot except for shoulders, one arm, and possibly a tiny flash of ankle for a cocktail dress code event is daringly racy, especially given that there are plenty of strapless knee-length cocktail dresses. Did we drop back into the nineteenth century while I was distracted with earrings?

Do you live anywhere near an area with a significant Asian heritage population? You'd find a lot of very similar shoes to choose from and considerably cheaper.

When I saw the the preview for this post, I thought it was about to tell me that my shoulders were daringly racy in an Asian heritage area. So.. thanks for making me wrong 😁Good point; I'm not far from Southall.

My local Zara also apparently still has some in my size, so I'm hoping to sneak in a trip later this week.

LOVE THE WHOLE LOOK. Am green with envy. Ignore the puritans.

For you, sure, but it’s her party her money if she wants a new outfit and can afford it, then she should do sp and feel great in it, you can’t judge others for if they buy and outfit for a party or not,. For good nes sake. People buy new outfits for parties all the time. We’ve got someone saying bare shoulders is too much and now someone else saying she’s spending too much.

op I think it’s a fab outfit, post a pic when you’ve got it all together and that bustier you can wear with a pair of good jeans, for another night out.

yoire going to rock it and I hope you’ve a fab time,

RampantIvy · 22/11/2022 07:28

That top is very modest compared to what some of the people I worked with wore to Christmas dos.

I think most people like an excuse to dress up these days since everything is so much more casual.

CatsEatDogs · 22/11/2022 08:18

I’m loving the whole look op. Ignore those saying it’s too revealing or too expensive

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 22/11/2022 08:26

Is this still the Style and Beauty board? What's all this 'too revealing' and 'too expensive' nonsense? Presumably OP knows the types of things people will wear to her own office party and knows what she can afford.

The top is fab OP. Love the green earrings.

Hope you have a great time.

Flyinggeesei234 · 22/11/2022 08:29

Best S&B thread in ages. This is proper outfit planning. Love the top and general vibe of what you’re going for OP.

AncientBallerina · 22/11/2022 08:44

I absolutely love the top and surely the whole point of a Christmas do is to go all out?!
I would go for black sharp trousers so as not to detract from the cut of the top which is fabulous.
Agree with statement earrings rather than necklace- I would be inclined to go for metallic/sparkly accessories/shoes because I think they would be more in line with the cut of the top.
I am quite conservative when it comes to accessories though!

astronewt · 22/11/2022 10:15

Y'know, an unexpected benefit of posting this thread is that when I hit the dancefloor in my bustier, I really will be feeling how dangerously saucy my shoulders are now 😁

I'm still undecided on shoes. The Kurt Geiger slippers are pricey so the sensible Astronewt would wear shoes she already has, but they are very fabulous and could be reworn for the office and elsewhere.

I absolutely love the kurt Geiger ones and think they really suit the outfit op. If that helps!!

Flyinggeesei234 · 22/11/2022 10:18

OP Maybe see if any KG discount on Black Friday?

Flyinggeesei234 · 22/11/2022 10:21

The type of shoes could take this outfit from pure class and the right type of edgy into novelty. I’ve been looking at velvet flats like this and can see it’s a fine line. The KG
ones are most definitely the right side of the line.

This is excellent S&B work OP.

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 22/11/2022 10:26

I love the KG shoes, and agree with @Flyinggeesei234 that the shoes will make or break the outfit!

And I love the green earrrings.
