Bustier for office Christmas party
astronewt · 19/11/2022 09:40
I'm planning to get this bustier from Zara for my office Christmas party, which is black tie/cocktail dress code. (It will come back into stock in time. It WILL.)
What would you pair it with? I'm thinking chandelier earrings not unlike the model's and maybe some wide-leg velvet trousers in a contrasting tone? Shoes? I don't want to wear heels if I can help it.

Yes to the earrings, no to the wide velvet trousers. The top is so sharp and chic that I’d be keeping the bottom half black and sleek. If you are doing décolletage it’s better to have your legs covered, how about slim black trousers or a long and narrow skirt (back in fashion)? Then glamorous flat shoes.

It's on both Vinted and eBay at an eyebleeding markup, so that's always an option if I decide I can't live without it. Or Zara have a similar one without the sleeve, but I like the sleeve.
I'm not a skirt person and I'm slim, so I'll be showing about the same amount of décolletage as the model. Dark red tailored trousers? Then I could also wear them for work. I don't quite fancy all black, it's such a cliche, and was thinking of mixing it with a dark toned but not black bottom half.

I think these specific ones are too pricey, but: mules like these?

If a cocktail dress is acceptable, why wouldn't trousers and a top be? I would be revealing less skin than most people in dresses, unless they were maxi dresses, and pretty much all of it would be shoulder. I won't look busty in it, because I'm not.

If I don't buy velvet trousers like I initially envisaged, I can wear ones I already have. I have both tan wide-legged tailored trousers and black cropped ones, but I've quite come around to wearing it with black slightly cropped tailored trousers and jewelled Turkish-style slippers. Unfortunately, having found those green velvet Kurt Geiger ones and then thinking "yeah, just like those, but cheaper" I now can't find any cheaper ones I like 😁

Are you absolutely sure that this is suitable attire for your office Christmas party? I'd have thought most people wouldn't consider something so revealing IMHO.
😂😂 I used to work at a certain civil service department that had a lot of young staff. You would have a fit seeing what they (and some of the older staff) wore to office (floorplate/team) xmas party or work nights out
the outfit OP is looking at looks reasonable and also smart

Right, here's my mood board!
I'm thinking classic chandelier earrings, or maybe green-toned ones if I can find them. And a full smoky eye. I have olive colouring and pixie-cropped dark hair.
My work goes full glam for parties and it's the first work Christmas party I've been able or indeed wanted to go to in years, and I've fallen full force for the bustier, so I can't wait to look sharp AF in it.

The top reminds me of Roland Mouret designs, so maybe take a look at his website for inspiration?
RM does have a very, very similar one! In fact, I think Zara's one without the sleeve is a straight copy. It's styled alternately with a miniskirt and black boot-cuts on the site, so I think that reinforces the black trouser piece. Also with a necklace, but I think the earrings are better and emphasise the line of the top and the shoulders more.
